Thoughts on the name Pryor

We are having a difficult time deciding on a name for our 3rd boy. We just came across the name [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] and really like it but would appreciate any feedback you’re willing to give! Thanks in advance!

I’ve always been a fan of the surname as a first name trend, and I do like the sound and look of [name_m]Pryor[/name_m]. I’m just not sure about the word “pry” being the emphasis of the name, because it seems a little unpleasant.

Not my style, but it’s not a bad name.

I think on the right person this could be a great name.
Unfortunately it might be heard as [name_f]Briar[/name_f] at first.

It just makes me think of the word prior…
What about a similar-sounding name such as [name_m]Prosper[/name_m], [name_m]Castor[/name_m], [name_m]Nestor[/name_m], [name_u]Harbor[/name_u], [name_u]Orion[/name_u] or [name_m]Victor[/name_m]?

Not really my style, it seems too harsh for a first name [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. It’d be an interesting middle, though.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it as a middle, but would spell it [name_m]Prior[/name_m]. I first considered it after the Divergent series (the main character’s last name is [name_m]Prior[/name_m]).

I like the name in full, but the potential to get ‘pry’ as a nickname throws me off. That word just has negative connotations. But as surnames as first names go, [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] is very nice.

In a similar vein, what about: [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m], [name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_m]Fraser[/name_m]/[name_m]Frazer[/name_m], [name_m]Ramsay[/name_m], [name_m]Fergus[/name_m], [name_m]Thompson[/name_m], [name_u]Brennan[/name_u], [name_u]Murphy[/name_u], [name_m]Fisher[/name_m], or [name_m]Davis[/name_m].

I’ve met guys named [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] before, but it’s one that strikes me as a bit odd without a personal connection.

I don’t love it, but I don’t have any particular issues with it. I do think it would be better as a middle name though.
