We’re now leaning heavily toward the name [name_m]Reef[/name_m]. What do you think of that name?
I have seen joints referred to as reefers so I’d vote no sorry. Maybe [name_m]Cove[/name_m]? It has the sea connection but not the marijuana connection
Prefer [name_m]Leif[/name_m]
I agree with the first comment makes me think of drugs. I do like [name_m]Leif[/name_m] which has been suggested too.
Agree with everything above- not a fan of [name_m]Reef[/name_m] but [name_m]Leif[/name_m] is a nice alternative.
I have to agree. I want to like [name_m]Reef[/name_m] but it heavily reminds me of marijuana…
I like [name_m]Reef[/name_m] but it makes a better middle then first name.
It would be cute, but unfortunately agree with all the marijuana comments… what about [name_u]Reed[/name_u]? [name_u]Reeve[/name_u] or [name_m]Reeves[/name_m]? [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_u]Reece[/name_u]?
[name_m]Reef[/name_m] is totally usable.
I live in a state with legalized recreational cannabis use and just want to say that even here no one would connect [name_m]Reef[/name_m], a clearly oceanic nature name, and reefer, an outdated 20th century slang term for a joint. I immediately think of the sea when I hear [name_m]Reef[/name_m].
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Reef[/name_m]! I know of someone on another website who has a son named [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] [name_m]Reef[/name_m], and one of my favorite series of novels has a brother named [name_m]Reef[/name_m] in it. I think it’s so ridiculously cool, and I would love to have a son named [name_m]Reef[/name_m] one day! [name_m]Reef[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_u]Elias[/name_u] is on my own list, which I [name_f]ADORE[/name_f].
Thank you so much for saying that. We love this name. We live near the ocean and we first heard the name on vacation in a tropical place. But we’re very concerned about the drug reference. We didn’t even think of that until we saw it on the internet. We certainly don’t want him to be teased in that way. But it sure doesn’t seem like many young people have heard the word Reefer. We’ve asked a number of college kids we know and they don’t know what it is.
I love it. I have never used the word reefer in my own vocabulary. So while I know the drug reference, it doesn’t bother me or overshadow the name. Plus I love all things ocean. Cool idea.
I love [name_m]Reef[/name_m]! It’s both cool and nautical, while not being too out there. I’m under 25 berry and no one I know uses the term reefer. This was my first time hearing it.
But if your really concerned, [name_u]Rafe[/name_u] could be an alternative. :•)
i mean, kids named crystal get teased about meth. kids will tease about anything so go for it, i guess. definitely would expect reef to smell like patchouli and sage, though.
I also think of marijuana. Other than that it’s an unattractive sound imo.
I thought of reefer too, perhaps showing my age (?) though not my lingo certainly. As a middle I wouldn’t note it and I quite likely wouldn’t [name_m]IRL[/name_m] either, through this medium (without seeing the child/ family) it is easier to see these connected and be more critical.
I think living near the ocean certainly helps deter other associations!
And yeah I really don’t think it will be a proble with other kids. I’m almost 30 and I only know the term because someone showed me the movie “Reefer Madness” for laughs in high school.
I’m 22 and I’ve never heard the term reefer. Seems very outdated to me? I love the idea of [name_m]Reef[/name_m], though it does seem a little lispy. In general I prefer [name_m]Cove[/name_m] or [name_u]Reeve[/name_u], but if you love it I definitely think it’s usable.
