Thoughts on the name Wylder?

I’ve recently been crushing on the name Wylder for a boy with the nickname [name_u]Wylie[/name_u]. What do you guys think about the name? I’m just curious as to what people think of the name and how the general public would respond to it if I ever used it in the future.

I quite like Wylder and nickname [name_u]Wylie[/name_u]. Though I do think of [name_u]Wylie[/name_u] Coyote, that association would fade if I met a little [name_u]Wylie[/name_u].

Although I usually dislike ‘Y’ spellings of names, I think Wylder takes some of the ‘wild’ out of [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] and helps to ground it a little.

I think Wylder is difficult to find a middle for as it can sound like you’re describing a person - Wydler [name_u]James[/name_u], he’s more wild than regular [name_u]James[/name_u]…

I much prefer the spelling [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]. I think you could still easily use the nickname [name_u]Wylie[/name_u]. Nicknames do not even have to be tied to the name. I have asked about [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] on the forum and to friends and family and have gotten mostly positive responses. I have [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_u]Pax[/name_u] or [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] on my list.

I love the sound, but I much prefer the spelling [name_m]Wilder[/name_m].

I’m with the others. I prefer [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]. And you can still use the nickname [name_u]Wylie[/name_u]/[name_m]Wiley[/name_m]. I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]. For me, I love that it makes me think of nature and deep forests untouched by man and it makes me think of my mom (for [name_f]Laura[/name_f] Ingells [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]). On my list, I have it as a middle in [name_u]Loki[/name_u] [name_m]Morpheus[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m].

[name_u]Love[/name_u] love love [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], with this spelling.

I like the name [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], spelled this way, but I could definitely see the negative connotations. “He definitely is [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] than the other kids!” or something silly like that comes to mind.

[name_u]Wylie[/name_u] was a favorite of mine, for a girl though. [name_m]Wiley[/name_m] is also a surname in my area, so I could never have used it anyway.

I love [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]! I am pregnant now and this is the only boy name I love , or even really like at all! I’m trying to get my husband to love it but he’s not having it. :frowning:

Yip, this just about sums up my opinion.

It looks misspelled, and [name_m]Wiley[/name_m] is a surname…is it in your family history?
