Thoughts on Theon?

What are your thoughts on the name [name_m]Theon[/name_m]?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it looks too much like The-on?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it sounds too similar too [name_m]Leon[/name_m]?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but I’m not a fan…first thought was “The on switch or the off switch?”, then I thought of freon, neon, [name_f]Celine[/name_f] [name_m]Dion[/name_m]. Generally, I dismiss most Th-/-th names anyway…it sounds like a bad lisp to me, and too unattractive for use in a personal name.

I like it! A unique alternative to [name_u]Theo[/name_u].

I really like [name_m]Theon[/name_m]! But then, I love Th- names. You might like [name_m]Thane[/name_m] and [name_m]Theron[/name_m] if [name_m]Theon[/name_m] isn’t sitting right.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it looks too much like The-on? No.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it sounds too similar too [name_m]Leon[/name_m]? Too similar? No. Similar, sure. Having a rare name sound similar to a more common name is a good thing. It makes it approachable.

As a name, its decent, not bad by any means. I dont think The-on when I look at it or hear it. I think it sounding similar to [name_m]Leon[/name_m] will only help with pronunciation. If you mean using the two names together though then yes they are too similar.

Personally though, all I can think of is the character from Game of Thrones, who is definitely not a good namesake in my opinion, so that sort of ruins the name for me.

I like [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_m]Theron[/name_m] and [name_m]Thane[/name_m] for alternatives like redwoodfey suggested.

I really prefer [name_u]Theo[/name_u] (with the full name [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]). [name_m]Theon[/name_m] sounds like an element from the periodic table. Also, for some reason, it sounds like an insult-- “you’re such a theon!”

but that’s probably just me!

I love the name [name_m]Theon[/name_m], but he’s as a pp pointed out, an uncertain namesake from Game of Thrones. The character in question can be polarizing as he’s done a lot of bad, but is currently in a situation in the series where his morality is ambiguous because of the things that are happening to him personally.

For me, I couldn’t use it since my fave girl name is Sansa (another character from that series) but I think [name_m]Theon[/name_m] is great sounding.

I love it!

Aesthetically, I like [name_m]Theon[/name_m], but I’m going to echo the game of thrones character issue. I’ve read all the books, and he goes from a child-killing monster to a pathetic monstrosity in torturous captivity. Maybe this association doesn’t bother you, but the books and the series are very popular and I’m sure that will be the first thing many people will think of when they hear [name_m]Theon[/name_m].

Another vote “no” due to the Game of Thrones reference; he’s really just a reprehensible character. It is an otherwise lovely name, though, so it’s a shame that it’s clear this reference is clouding my view as well as many others.

I much prefer [name_m]Theron[/name_m].

I don’t really know what you mean when you ask if it sounds too similar to [name_m]Leon[/name_m]… it sounds almost exactly like [name_m]Leon[/name_m]. You definitely couldn’t have them as brothers!

Yup, my first thought was Greyjoy? It’s a nice name, but the association with that character might be a bit much right now.

[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t do it! If anyone you know has ever read or watched GOT, all they will see is pathetic, mutilated, evil, dismembered [name_m]Theon[/name_m] Greyjoy…I shudder thinking about it. Its a shame because the actual name is nice, but terrible references…
