I’m blown away by this thoughtful and kind feedback, @seawillow! Thank you so much. And please don’t apologise for the length! Seriously – this is so helpful.
Your poem sounds amazing and I’m desperate to read it! What a fantastic idea!
I don’t associate [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] with the allergy medication, thankfully, (and I don’t live in the States) but I understand that some people find the hard “g” sound unappealing. But I love how [name_u]Blythe[/name_u] balances it out with its sweetness and softness. I studied Italian at university and I’m a musician, so I love having those connections in the name. <3
I pronounce [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] “zan-thee.” It is quite important to me that the name isn’t too confounding to others, but I also don’t mind correcting people. I think [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] appeals to me because of the Italian connection (again!) and I love the nickname “Leo” for a girl, too. But I know it feels a little bit dusty to some.
I can’t believe I didn’t realise this, but [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] is Italian, too!
Maybe that’s why I don’t find the pronunciation tricky. (Having said that, I don’t live in [name_f]Italy[/name_f], and I’m sure the name will be mispronounced where I am!) I need to think about how much I’m willing to correct people. . . I love [name_u]Blythe[/name_u] SO MUCH. It’s such a light, free name to me.
I love [name_f]Alethea[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f], too! And [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f] is my favourite classic novel. I’ve read it so many times. I was also surprised and delighted at the meaning of [name_f]Eyre[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] one worry about [name_f]Alethea[/name_f] is the antiquated feel – does it feel too dusty and old-fashioned? [name_u]Or[/name_u] even a little pompous? I do love the “ee” sound and the nicknames [name_f]Lethe[/name_f] and [name_f]Leelee[/name_f]!
I think you’re right that [name_u]Cleo[/name_u] [name_f]Spring[/name_f] is the most modern-sounding. I’ve always loved [name_u]Cleo[/name_u] and I’m a bit sad it’s getting to be more popular now! But I also don’t want to not use a name just because it’s getting a bit more use. [name_f]Spring[/name_f] as a middle name just makes me feel so happy.
I love [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f] so much and, you’re right, I also worry about the wearability of it. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you pronounce it eye-AN-thee? I used to love ee-an-thee, but I’ve gathered from my research that eye-an-thee is more correct? That also worries me – that I might choose the wrong pronunciation. There’s so much to consider! [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f] [name_u]Hero[/name_u] is stunning, though. Although, maybe it’d be better for a character in a book than a real baby girl. . .
I adore [name_f]Belphoebe[/name_f] as a middle! It’s so whimsical and strong and beautiful. I think [name_f]Atalanta[/name_f] might be a little too much on the strong side for me, but I can see the appeal!
Thanks again for this thoughtful feedback! You’re given me a lot to think about.
