Thoughts On These Family Names

I just found a page in one of my old name books with my family names that I had gotten from my Grandmother a while ago. I would love to hear opinions on the ones I think might be workable for me.

[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] ([name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] is already on my list)
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f](Used to be a favorite, but I love [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] more at the moment)
[name_f]Ida[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Molly[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]

There are male names that I like the feminine variants like [name_u]Sydney[/name_u]/[name_f]Sidonie[/name_f]*([name_u]Sidney[/name_u]), [name_f]Philippa/name_f and [name_f]Maxine/name_f. Some other family names that are already on my list are [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f](on both sides of the family!). I think [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] is a really unexpected, but great way to work with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Molly[/name_f]. [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is diminutive of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] for anyone who doesn’t know that.

  • [name_f]Sidonie[/name_f] isn’t an actual variant, but I think it might still work.

These will be middles.

All of these are serious classics. You family had good, solid taste  I really like most of these names, and they are totally wearable.

Only ones I’m not into are [name_f]Ida[/name_f], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], and [name_f]Anna[/name_f]

Great list! I especially love [name_f]Esther[/name_f] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f]

Thank you. I was excited that there were so many good and usable names in my family.

I like [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Ida[/name_f], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] (as a middle), [name_f]Sidonie[/name_f], and [name_f]Philippa[/name_f]!

I like [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] nn [name_f]Thea[/name_f] rather than [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f].

I’ve thought of these, but I think I want to keep the original forms.

[name_f]Sarah[/name_f] ([name_f]Seraphine[/name_f])
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] ([name_f]Dorothea[/name_f])
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] ([name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f])
[name_f]Molly[/name_f] ([name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Mariana[/name_f] and [name_f]Maria[/name_f])
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] ([name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_f]Annika[/name_f], [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] and [name_f]Hana[/name_f]/[name_f]Hannah[/name_f])

All lovely, classic names. I’m especially fond of [name_f]Ida[/name_f]; I think she’s due for a comeback.

[name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] are great ones, and that’s great that you have a family link for a name you already love–[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]!

The only ones I don’t really like are [name_f]Ida[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]

Yep, all very usable. I would especially like to see [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] used more often.

I’m really liking [name_f]Hana[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] / [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. [name_f]Hana[/name_f] doesn’t really fit my style, but I’ve loved that name for such a long time. It probably won’t be pronounce correctly either which sucks.

[name_f]Sarah[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Annika[/name_f], [name_f]Molly[/name_f](Nickname only) and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] have official been added to my list.

I love [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]. [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] are good too.

[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]. It was way overused and very common, but I think the nicknames [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] or [name_f]Sally[/name_f] could make this name very fresh. (Related to [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], like [name_f]Molly[/name_f] to [name_f]Mary[/name_f].)
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
Great name, but very popular. #19 and rising.
[name_f]Ida[/name_f]
Interesting and coming back! Very 100 year rule.
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
Not my cup of tea. It’s usable.
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]
see [name_f]Ruth[/name_f].
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
It also seems old lady. [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] were two of the [name_u]Golden[/name_u] Girls. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] for a boy could honor a [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], but I do like the [name_m]Wizard[/name_m] of [name_m]Oz[/name_m].
[name_f]Molly[/name_f]
This one will sound dated in a while. The [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] I know was named partly to honor a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] called [name_f]Molly[/name_f].
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
Very, very, very common. Currently it’s falling, but [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]/le is rising. Lots of Annas running around.
[name_f]Sidonie[/name_f] really interesting.
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f] really fresh.

Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!

@emilyva
I’ve thought of [name_f]Sally[/name_f] before, but I don’t know if it would work for [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f] which would be the name I would use to honor [name_f]Sarah[/name_f].
I don’t mind how popular names are.

I hadn’t even thought of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]! I absolutely love the nickname [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], but I wasn’t keen on the -[name_m]Dore[/name_m] in the name. Maybe it’d grow on me.
