Dónal and [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] have completely different etymologies but it’s widely accepted that they are the ‘equivalent’ or ‘translated version’ of each other. Basically there are some [name_f]English[/name_f] names with no direct translation, so we just use ones that are similar😅 There are plenty of Dónals who were named after a [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], and vice versa
