so, someone posted about this name earlier and I saw it and kinda fell in love with it:
[name_u]Ari[/name_u]
honest opinions- do you immediately associate it with a girl? boy? or is it completely unisex? in my opinion its truly a unisex name but I wasn’t sure if most people would assume that it is a nickname for a girl name like [name_f]Ariana[/name_f], [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] etc.
the only name my husband likes right now is [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], we would call him [name_u]Max[/name_u] or [name_m]Mac[/name_m] for short. siblings are [name_m]Miles[/name_m] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f].
something about [name_u]Ari[/name_u] just sounds so handsome to me though
I would assume [name_u]Ari[/name_u] was a boy. I knew a guy named [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] (born before [name_m]Little[/name_m] Mermaid made that a smash hit for girls) and he went by [name_u]Ari[/name_u]. There have also been quite a few Aristotles who use [name_u]Ari[/name_u] and obviously [name_u]Ari[/name_u] can be used independently.
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] is a shortened name in wales for a lot of men called Arfon. So to me it’s not really feminine! I always say go with your gut instinct
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] is a boy’s name. It’s a Hebrew name as far as I know, used in [name_m]Israel[/name_m] with some frequency. I also like [name_u]Avi[/name_u]. Both are very handsome.
[name_u]Ari[/name_u], [name_m]Miles[/name_m] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] sound great together.
I knew one [name_u]Ari[/name_u] growing up, he was a younger brother of a friend of mine. Their family is Jewish, so I associate it as a male Hebrew name.
I love [name_u]Ari[/name_u] for a boy! I knew a boy with that name growing up, so [name_u]Ari[/name_u] by itself feels all boy to me (though I think it’s a nice nickname for a girl, too). I’m surprised it isn’t more popular. I think it has a sweet, handsome vibe. I like it better than [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], and I think it goes better with your other children’s names.
I think [name_u]Ari[/name_u] works fine for a boy!
You could always use [name_u]Ari[/name_u] as a nickname? Since you already like the idea of a potential nn for [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]…
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] is a standalone masculine name in several cultures. It’s Hebrew, Armenian, Scandinavian, Icelandic and Finnish. It has nice meanings, is easy to pronounce and spell and is short but isn’t lacking (if that makes sense?). I really like it.
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] feels unisex but more masculine to me! I love it and it sounds great with your other kids’names. Plus I find it much more attractive than [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]
I have a friend named [name_u]Ari[/name_u] (he’s Jewish), I love that name. I definitely think of it as a boys name, I’ve never known a girl to shorten her name to [name_u]Ari[/name_u].
Could be super cute with [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] as a NM. I prefer [name_u]Ari[/name_u], [name_m]Miles[/name_m], and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] to [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], [name_m]Miles[/name_m], and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] for the sibs as well.
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] is favorite nickname for a girl (Arinya, [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Arietta[/name_f], etc). I see it as a unisex name, but mostly as a nickname.
As a full name, I see male. As a nickname, I see female. As any sort of name, I see it as unisex. But I think that if you love it, go for it!
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] is a popular name in many parts of the word: [name_m]Israel[/name_m] for sure, and nn for [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m] in Greece. It has just always struck me as so feminine-sounding, so I’d be unlikely to name a boy [name_u]Ari[/name_u].
I love [name_u]Max[/name_u] and [name_m]Miles[/name_m] as brother names, but [name_u]Ari[/name_u] is realt cute for a boy. I think it is totally doable!
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] is all boy to me, as I have only known boys with that nickname - it was short for [name_u]Ariel[/name_u]. I also met an [name_u]Ari[/name_u] whose name was short for something else, but I can’t remember what his full name was. He had a name that was more common in Eastern Europe.
The girls I know with names like [name_f]Arielle[/name_f], [name_f]Ariana[/name_f], … go by the full name.
You could do [name_u]Ari[/name_u] [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] or [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] [name_u]Ari[/name_u], either would be great.
I have a male friend named Arieh (ahr-YE) who goes by [name_u]Ari[/name_u]. The only other [name_u]Ari[/name_u] I’ve ever met was male as well; IDK if his name was a nn for [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] or something else, or if his full name was [name_u]Ari[/name_u].
According to Behind the Name, [name_u]Ari[/name_u] in Hebrew means lion; in Armenian it means brave; in Ancient Scandinavian, Icelandic, & Finnish it means eagle…all three meanings are quite positive. If you went w/[name_u]Ariel[/name_u] for a full name, in Hebrew that means lion of God.
As pps have said, [name_m]Miles[/name_m], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], & [name_u]Ari[/name_u] go together quite well. Good luck!
