Which ones do you like? I have specific concerns for some, so if you have any thoughts, that would be much appreciated.
More Popular Than I’d Like
• [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
• [name_m]Milo[/name_m]
• [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
• [name_m]Roman[/name_m] - like it, but worried it’d get lumped in with Rowans and Ronans or mistaken for them
• [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
• [name_m]Wesley[/name_m]
Usable For a First Name or Not?
• [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] - a vintage name popular across the pond, but is it do-able in the US?
• [name_m]Amos[/name_m]
• [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] - does this give you country music / rustic vibes? Because that’s not what I’m hoping for
• [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] - [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_u]Finley[/name_u] are popular, so is this trendy sounding?

• [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] - love

• [name_m]Amos[/name_m] - neutral
• [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] - neutral
• [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] - neutral and makes me think of the children’s song. I adore [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_u]Finlay[/name_u]/[name_u]Finley[/name_u]
• [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] - not fond of [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], do not care for the sound

• [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] - adore
• [name_m]Henry[/name_m] - very popular, but I like
• [name_m]Milo[/name_m] - always reminds me of the cat in [name_m]Milo[/name_m] & [name_m]Otis[/name_m]
• [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] - like this a lot, not super popular yet

• [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] - no, poor kid
• [name_m]Amos[/name_m] - neutral
• [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] - reminds me of [name_f]Miley[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], who is still too popular for this name to stand alone
• [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] - popular, it’s OK
• [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] - no, sounds too pompous
• [name_u]Orion[/name_u] - no, too far “out there”
• [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] - no, sounds like a dog
I love [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] and [name_m]Roman[/name_m].
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] - Never really been my style, but I think it’s a good name.
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] - I love this one! I especially love it as a nickname for [name_m]Miles[/name_m].
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] - Again, not my style, but a great name.
[name_m]Roman[/name_m] - I think this one is great.
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] - A little too “big” for me, but I think it is becoming more and more usable.
[name_m]Wesley[/name_m] - I love this one!
[name_m]Alfred[/name_m] - I think this is fine. Especially since I think [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] is an adorable nickname.
[name_m]Amos[/name_m] - I will admit that I think of Famous [name_m]Amos[/name_m] cookies immediately. I do think it’s a little outdated.
[name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] - I immediately think of [name_f]Miley[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m].
[name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] - I love this one! I’ve always liked [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] a lot more than any other [name_m]Fin[/name_m]- names. I know [name_u]Finn[/name_u]/[name_m]Fin[/name_m] is super popular right now though.
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] - Not my style. Seems a little out there.
[name_u]Orion[/name_u] - I think this one is great!
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] - I don’t know how to pronounce this one. Seems too out there for me.
My favorites are [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_m]Wesley[/name_m], and [name_u]Orion[/name_u]. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helped!
• [name_m]Henry[/name_m] - I like it! This feels popular but I don’t think I know of one (old or young!).
• [name_m]Milo[/name_m] - This seems hipster/modern to me. I much prefer [name_m]Miles[/name_m].
• [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] - Too much [name_f]Sesame[/name_f] [name_m]Street[/name_m] has made this all grouch to me.
• [name_m]Roman[/name_m] - I prefer [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] or [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. [name_m]Roman[/name_m] just makes me think of people from [name_m]Rome[/name_m].
• [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] - Overused, expected.
• [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] this one! Soft sound but all masculine. Familiar but not too common.
• [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] - This is ok, not really my style but I’d like to meet one.
• [name_m]Amos[/name_m] - I like this but I’d probably never use it.
• [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] - I like this! And the nickname [name_m]Cy[/name_m] sounds cool. I don’t think country/rustic. Sounds distinguished to me. I get the [name_u]Billy[/name_u] [name_u]Ray[/name_u]/[name_f]Miley[/name_f] connection but it isn’t that obscure that they are the only things [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] makes me think of.
• [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] - This does sound a little trendy…it is one of those names that is such a surname that I wouldn’t use it unless it is a family name.
• [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] - A little much, I think.
• [name_u]Orion[/name_u] - I like it. But I really like [name_m]Orrin[/name_m] better.
• [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] - I like this a lot! And the nick name [name_u]Rafe[/name_u] is so cool!
Good luck!
I love [name_m]Milo[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. [name_u]Orion[/name_u] and [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] are totally useable.
Hahah true, but at least those cookies are delicious!
• [name_m]Henry[/name_m] ~ I’m staring to warm up to it. I wouldn’t personally use it but think it’s handsome.
• [name_m]Milo[/name_m] ~ I used to like it but I’ve met many dogs with this name
• [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] ~ Like a lot
• [name_m]Roman[/name_m] ~ Used to like years ago but now I prefer [name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
• [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] ~ A favorite
• [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] ~ Meh, sounds slimy to me
• [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] ~ I don’t see why it’s not usable? I like it.
• [name_m]Amos[/name_m] ~ Like a lot
• [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] ~ This what stops me from putting this name onto my favorites!
• [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] ~ I like it but prefer [name_m]Finnian[/name_m]
• [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] ~ I like a lot
• [name_u]Orion[/name_u] ~ Not unusual at all to me
• [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] ~ Not my style, I don’t like the sound
My completely honest thoughts:
• [name_m]Henry[/name_m] - I like it, it’s very classic, but its overuse on the show Once Upon a Time is starting to ruin it for me. It has a friendly vibe though, which is nice.
• [name_m]Milo[/name_m] - I always liked this name, but apparently there’s a drink in Australia called this? Still a good name though!
• [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] - The Grouch. The association is strong for me
• [name_m]Roman[/name_m] - It’s true that [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]/[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]/[name_u]Rohan[/name_u]/etc are getting more popular, but there’s nothing really wrong with this name by itself. Although in a way, it is kind of like naming your child “Greek.” But it’s a good name and it feels strong.
• [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] - I love this name! I hate all its popular nicknames but this is one of my favorites. It’s elegant, sophisticated, and timeless. Despite its popularity, I somehow have never met a [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]!
• [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] - I really like this name too. [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] feels fun and versatile and cheerful to me.
• [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] - I can see this being hard to pull off in the US, but names are becoming much more adventurous lately so why the hell not? It’s cute and charming for sure.
• [name_m]Amos[/name_m] - It rhymes with anus! [name_f]Deal[/name_f] breaker for me.
• [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] - I used to like this name until I watched a TV show with a character named [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] and I started to find it really annoying really quickly. I can’t pinpoint why, it just feels awkward to say a lot for some reason? Definitely usable though.
• [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] - I don’t think it’s trendy, although it is VERY Irish. I like it though, it’s got charm, and it works.
• [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] - Sounds pompous to me.
• [name_u]Orion[/name_u] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] it. It’s interesting and close enough to “[name_u]Ryan[/name_u]” to be usable as a first name, especially in today’s times. It’s got celestial and historical/mythological roots, which makes it pretty fantastic in my book.
• [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] - No strong feelings either way on this name. I’d say it’s usable though.
So I think there is a difference between “trendy” and “popular” names. A lot of the names you list are trendy right now - they shot up from relative obscurity to ultra-popularity in a few years, and will likely decline just as quickly. Names like that date a person and tend to sound worn-out in a few years.
But [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] doesn’t fall into that category. It has always hovered between #100-200 for as long as they’ve kept record, and even now it’s just #126, not ultra-popular or on a steep incline. I think that makes it pretty classic!
Of your uncommon names, I think really only [name_u]Orion[/name_u] is unusable - it’s just very out there and seems like more of a pet name. I knew boys named [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] growing up, but I grew up in the South so it does have a country vibe to me. [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] is a little dramatic, [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] is a little stuffy, and [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] is a little surnamey, but all seem doable if you really love them.
I think [name_m]Amos[/name_m] is lovely name!
