Two girls’ names have popped in my mind today, not necessarily for me to add them to my list but just randomly, and I became curious to how they would be perceived because I’ve never seen them discussed before.
The first is [name_f]Lindi[/name_f] (could be spelled [name_f]Lindy[/name_f], or Lyndi, etc). What do you think? A fresher version of [name_f]Linda[/name_f], or sounds a little dated or nickname-y? I have a strong association with a [name_f]Lindi[/name_f] so it sounds like a normal name to me but I never really hear it talked about ever.
The other is [name_f]Tahnee[/name_f] (or Tanee). I was watching an old season of Australia’s Next Top Model and the winner was this stunning girl named [name_f]Tahnee[/name_f]. Seems to be primarily used in Australia/New [name_u]Zealand[/name_u] - NB lists it as Polynesian in origin but I have not done further research to verify that. Also had a brief stint in popularity in [name_u]America[/name_u] in the 80s as [name_f]Raquel[/name_f] Welch’s daughter’s name. It is pronounced “TAH-nee” but I also worked with someone named Tanee, pronounced more like “tuh-NEE”. It’s a little out there for American ears but watching the contestant on the show, I found it quite beautiful and wanted to know what others thought of it as I’ve never seen it discussed before either.
As an American, it reminds me very much of Tawny which is a southern girls name (like Dusty). I do prefer Tahnee spelling wise and I’m sure it has a beautiful meaning!
That was my first thought when I came across the name too, that it’s almost like a “foreign” (to my southern American ears of course) version of [name_f]Tawny[/name_f] (which, btw, I find completely underrated as a name in itself!)
I really like [name_f]Lindi[/name_f] in terms of sound, although not that spelling - for some reason it reminds me of Lidl [name_f]Lindie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lindy[/name_f] are both sweet though, [name_f]Lindie[/name_f] is my favourite nickname for [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]! They feel bouncy and bubbly to me, not overly dated, despite being so similar to [name_f]Linda[/name_f]. A similar name I found recently that I really like is Lindita, which is an Albanian variation of [name_f]Linda[/name_f]!
I don’t love [name_f]Tahnee[/name_f] or Tanee, I’m just not a fan of messy spellings and the pronunciation is a bit confusing. I was going to suggest [name_m]Tanny[/name_m], but then that just looks like a word to describe someone who’s tan, so I prefer Tanya,Taina, [name_f]Thandi[/name_f] or something like [name_f]Lani[/name_f].
