Thoughts on these names?

I never really see these names being discussed anywhere and I was just curious what impressions people had of them. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like them? Why or why not? What kind of vibes do they give you? I’m not considering them for myself, but just curious!

[name_f]Norma[/name_f]
[name_f]Michaela[/name_f]
[name_f]Megan[/name_f] / [name_f]Meghan[/name_f]
[name_f]Acacia[/name_f]
[name_f]Alicia[/name_f] / [name_f]Alisha[/name_f]
[name_f]Carrie[/name_f]
[name_f]Mariah[/name_f] / [name_f]Moriah[/name_f]

[name_u]Brody[/name_u]
[name_m]Jason[/name_m]
[name_m]Cole[/name_m]
[name_m]Josiah[/name_m]
[name_u]Dawson[/name_u]
[name_m]Dalton[/name_m]

[name_f]Norma[/name_f] → Theoretically similar to the well-loved [name_f]Nora[/name_f], but wears that “old lady name” quality in a less appealing manner, and I can only think of [name_f]Norma[/name_f] [name_m]Bates[/name_m] whenever I see it anywhere

[name_f]Michaela[/name_f] → [name_f]Kinda[/name_f] basic for me in the same way that [name_u]Michael[/name_u] is. A fine name, just not my taste!

[name_f]Megan[/name_f] / [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] → I don’t mind this one, specifically the [name_f]Megan[/name_f] spelling. It just feels attached to a specific time period, and now it has the Markle association that some may not be able to get past for a while.

[name_f]Acacia[/name_f] → I know an [name_f]Acacia[/name_f]! It has all the qualities that a commonly appreciated Nameberry name would, so I’m surprised I don’t see it around here more often.

[name_f]Alicia[/name_f] / [name_f]Alisha[/name_f] → [name_m]Even[/name_m] if I didn’t have the personal associations I have with this name, I think I’d still feel the same way about – neutral in a fine for someone else but not for me way.

[name_f]Carrie[/name_f] → Another one I’m surprised not to see that often, though I do understand it might be too attached to [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] by [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] [name_m]King[/name_m]. I also think of [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] Underwood, lol

[name_f]Mariah[/name_f] / [name_f]Moriah[/name_f] → Very pretty in sound, maybe deserves more attention than it gets, but also… [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] [name_u]Carey[/name_u]. For some this might be like naming your daughter [name_f]Beyonce[/name_f]!

[name_u]Brody[/name_u] → I like it, I’d like to see more of it.

[name_m]Jason[/name_m] → Like [name_f]Megan[/name_f] it feels a little stuck in a particular time but less so. I feel like generally a lot of J names have this kind of vibe (Justin, [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_u]Jesse[/name_u], [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_u]Jordan[/name_u], etc) and they’re just sort of falling out of fashion?

[name_m]Cole[/name_m] → I know or know of quite a few Cole’s that are around my age (25) and I think it fits in well with a lot of recently popular names. Generally I prefer the [name_u]Colby[/name_u] options though.

[name_m]Josiah[/name_m] → [name_m]Boy[/name_m] names with the –iah suffix feel extra religious to me, and it’s just not something I’m personally that into, but I can see this one, like [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m], gaining some traction.

[name_u]Dawson[/name_u] → A fine name, maybe too tied with [name_u]Shane[/name_u] [name_u]Dawson[/name_u] though considering a wide range of current or expectant parents would have grown up on the internet during his era? Also reminds of names like [name_m]Deacon[/name_m], [name_m]Duncan[/name_m], [name_u]Darren[/name_u], [name_u]Dorian[/name_u], etc. which I tend to favor over [name_u]Dawson[/name_u] itself. A fine name otherwise!

[name_m]Dalton[/name_m] → [name_m]Ah[/name_m], another fine name, but I just have a strange aversion to it probably because I knew one in high school that I didn’t like very much and his face is burned into my mind, lol

[name_f]Norma[/name_f] - the ‘norm’ syllable is a bit awkward for me

[name_f]Michaela[/name_f] - it’s okay, I prefer other spellings

[name_f]Megan[/name_f] / [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] - unusable for me, but I like the warm rugged feel and nickname [name_f]Meg[/name_f].

[name_f]Acacia[/name_f]- gorgeous, warm and lovely

[name_f]Alicia[/name_f] / [name_f]Alisha[/name_f] - I like it - it has a sort of sparkly quality

[name_f]Carrie[/name_f] - cute and fun but solid too

[name_f]Mariah[/name_f] / [name_f]Moriah[/name_f] - [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] feels Christmassy :person_facepalming: but it has flair and sharpness. [name_f]Moriah[/name_f] is intriguing - a bit more distinctive

[name_u]Brody[/name_u] - relaxed, cool and friendly. I like it - I’ve met a couple and it’s suited them well

[name_m]Jason[/name_m] - it’s okay, I don’t hate it or like it if that makes any sense

[name_m]Cole[/name_m] - pretty cool and warm

[name_m]Josiah[/name_m] - sharp and bright

[name_u]Dawson[/name_u] - enjoying this at the moment - rugged and charming and mayyyybe I’ve been a bit influenced since it’s a character’s surname :person_facepalming:

[name_m]Dalton[/name_m] - pretty snappy and distinctive but for me, it’s associated with one person, so I wouldn’t use it

[name_f]Norma[/name_f] has a very pretty spelling but the sound is kind of clunky and it’s very ‘old lady’ to me.
[name_f]Michaela[/name_f] is pretty looking but she’ll probably meet a thousand other McKayla, MacKayla, [name_f]Michaela[/name_f], or Michealas. Also they will have to be prepared to be called ‘Micheal-uh’ instead of ‘Mick-Kay-Luh’ [name_f]Acacia[/name_f] is very pretty. I don’t have strong feelings but I really do like it.
[name_f]Alicia[/name_f] and [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] are kind of boring, but they’re not awful.
[name_u]Brody[/name_u] is kind of giving ‘frat boy’ but it’s not awful.
[name_m]Jason[/name_m] I REALLLY like but I associate it with the slasher
The others I don’t love

[name_f]Norma[/name_f] - I think of “the norm” when I see this one and I worked with one who was extremely unpleasant. It screams old and crusty to me.

[name_f]Michaela[/name_f] - eh, nothing special. I know TONS all with different spellings.

[name_f]Megan[/name_f] / [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] - again, I know TONS all with differing spellings.

[name_f]Mariah[/name_f] / [name_f]Moriah[/name_f] - I think I’d prefer [name_f]Moriah[/name_f]. [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] gives me a Tiffany/Stephanie vibe, not ready for comeback

[name_u]Brody[/name_u] - I know of a 2 year old [name_m]Bode[/name_m]. Similar, somewhat fresh

[name_m]Jason[/name_m] - too familiar

[name_m]Cole[/name_m] - a bit too plain for my taste

[name_m]Josiah[/name_m] - yes, yes, a million times YES! [name_u]Love[/name_u] this one. We named our first baby (lost by an early miscarriage) [name_u]Josie[/name_u] based off of this name. Means [name_m]God[/name_m] supports and heals, so fitting!

[name_u]Dawson[/name_u] - I know one personally, and although he’s an interesting character, I like the name.

[name_m]Dalton[/name_m] - nah

Norma - Similar to [name_f]Nora[/name_f] but clunkier and more dated feeling. I don’t hate it, but it doesn’t really stand out to me.
Michaela - As a gen z everyone I’ve met with this name spells it like [name_f]Makayla[/name_f] or something similar, and I remember being surprised when I found out this spelling was a traditional name and it wasn’t completely invented. It’s not my favorite ever, but I sort of like it.
Megan / [Meghan] (Meghan - Baby Name Meaning, Origin, and Popularity | Nameberry) - Very blah to me now, though I remember liking it when I was younger
Acacia - Not my typical style but it’s pretty cool, I like it
Alicia / Alisha - I’ve had a sort of bad experience with someone with this name so it’s hard to see it neutrally, but it’s ok I guess. The pronunciation is confusing though.
Carrie - I really like [name_f]Carrie[/name_f], it’s not something I use but I think it has a good balance of being elegant and modern
Mariah / Moriah - Inseparable from [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] [name_u]Carey[/name_u] for me, and I have sort of mixed feelings, I can’t decide if I like it or not.

Brody - It’s kind of fun, but feels overly sporty and I’m not sure how wearable it would be on an adult
Jason - Kind of boring to me, and for some reason gives me toxic boyfriend in teen movie vibes
Cole - I dislike it a lot tbh, part of it might be because of some negative associations but none of them were that bad, so idk, it just kind of sounds dumb to me
Josiah - It’s ok, I’m not the biggest fan of boys names ending in -iah but I like it better than [name_u]Joseph[/name_u]
Dawson - Feels very middle aged dad to me, but tbh I somewhat like it, even though I see it as more of a surname. Also makes me think of [name_u]Shane[/name_u] [name_u]Dawson[/name_u] of course, though I was never a fan of his so it’s not the biggest association for me.
Dalton - It’s kinda cool and unusual, not much more to say about it

I really love [name_f]Norma[/name_f] and I definitely feel that she’s super underrated – she’s clunky-cute, warm and cuddly. Sort of like [name_f]Thelma[/name_f] crossed with [name_f]Nora[/name_f]! I’m so happy to see her on here!

I don’t mind most of the others, they’re just not my personal style

[name_f]Norma[/name_f] ~ little old lady chic, can see it coming back in with the popularity of [name_f]Nora[/name_f]

[name_f]Michaela[/name_f] ~ 90s dated

[name_f]Megan[/name_f] / [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] ~ also feels a bit dated and I’m not sure [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] will be too popular in [name_u]England[/name_u] for the foreseeable as most people seem to strongly dislike a certain famous one :see_no_evil: I’d prefer [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] as a way to get to [name_f]Meg[/name_f]

[name_f]Acacia[/name_f] ~ underrated! [name_m]Can[/name_m] see this being used more

[name_f]Alicia[/name_f] / [name_f]Alisha[/name_f] ~ the only [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] I’ve known was at my primary school in the 90s so again, it feels very ‘of that time’ to me! ‘Just Alice’ is better imho

[name_f]Carrie[/name_f] ~ vintagey and spunky, reminds me of the horror book/film and [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] [name_m]Bradshaw[/name_m]

[name_f]Mariah[/name_f] / [name_f]Moriah[/name_f] ~ heavy [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] [name_u]Carey[/name_u] vibes, I’ve never seen the [name_f]Moriah[/name_f] spelling but it kind of looks like a misspelling of [name_f]Moira[/name_f]?

[name_u]Brody[/name_u] ~ gives me surfer dude vibes

[name_m]Jason[/name_m] ~ [name_m]Jason[/name_m] [name_m]Donovan[/name_m], [name_m]Jason[/name_m] and the Argonauts, very 80s, past its best

[name_m]Cole[/name_m] ~ feels like a cowboy name

[name_m]Josiah[/name_m] ~ I know a little [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]! It was definitely chosen for the religious connection. Also reminds me of [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] ‘Jed’ [name_m]Bartlet[/name_m] which imho is a great association!

[name_u]Dawson[/name_u] ~ I’m not big into surnames myself, this just makes me think Dawson’s [name_u]Creek[/name_u]

[name_m]Dalton[/name_m] ~ more cowboy vibes!
