I actually hate the name [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] for a boy… but for a girl I don’t mind it. Out of the 3 that’s what I would choose.
I agree with PP about [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], and like you also prefer unisex name as I am not a big fan of names ending in -a which seems to be the main thing for girl names these days. JMO of course, congrats btw and good luck with finalizing your name. My wife and I are in the same predicament.
Thanks SO much for the input! Has anyone ever met or known of a girl with these names? We want to make sure that we aren’t way off base with our choices.
I like [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] best of the three. [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] really reminds me of Mutton. I don’t think it’s a nice sounding name.
My vote went for [name_u]Sutton[/name_u]. It rhymes with button and I think that’s the cutest thing ever.
I’ve never met any girls with these names but I’ve heard of girls named [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] before.
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u] is the only one I have actually heard on a girl and the only one I could see on a girl tbh. I know [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] and [name_u]Mercer[/name_u] are unisex but they just sound like boy names to me.
I voted for [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] - it feels the most usable for a girl to me, and I like its warmth. I think there’s an actress named [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] I’ve heard referred to, and it’s never been all that common for boys or girls, so it doesn’t feel as much like it’s crossing over. [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] feels quite masculine to me and I’ve never met a girl named [name_u]Spencer[/name_u]. I’ve only ever heard [name_u]Mercer[/name_u] as a surname. I don’t like it as a first name - it’s got a sharp quality about it that rubs me the wrong way.
I really like and voted for [name_u]Sutton[/name_u]. [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] would be my second choice, it’s growing on me. She could go by [name_u]Penny[/name_u] if she wanted something more feminine when she’s older.
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Foster[/name_m] is a famous Broadway performer and she was also on the short-lived show “Bunheads.” She’s the only [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] I have ever heard of, so I can definitely see that working as a girls name and that’s what got my vote. I prefer [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] on a boy, but [name_u]Kelsey[/name_u] Grammer has a daughter named [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] who is an actress, so it’s definitely not unheard of for girls. I really dislike [name_u]Mercer[/name_u], and I’d honestly remove it from your list. [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] or [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] are much better choices.
I like [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] and [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], and have heard both used as girls names.
Thanks for all of your responses! It’s always great to have a sounding board and hear multiple perspectives. My husband and I are looking for a unique name that isn’t too off the grid. We keep trending towards unisex names. Aside from the names, we have listed, does anyone have any other suggestions that might work for us? Thanks, again!
Of those 3 I like [name_u]Mercer[/name_u] best as it leaves [name_f]Merci[/name_f] as a nice option.
I don’t like [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] at all on a girl.
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] is okay, but hard to visualize for me.
Yes, as the previous person said above, [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] is the only one of these names I have ever heard on a girl. But when I first heard of [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Foster[/name_m] I thought she was a man. To me all three names are all boy. I don’t think one works better than any other.
Would any of these slightly less obviously boy names strike your fancy?
[name_u]Alcott[/name_u]

[name_u]Hero[/name_u]
[name_f]Aster[/name_f]
[name_u]Teal[/name_u]
[name_u]Hilary[/name_u]
[name_m]Park[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_u]Quincy[/name_u]
[name_m]Augustine[/name_m]
[name_u]Finlay[/name_u]
[name_m]Tarquin[/name_m]
Anything appeal?
Suggestions:
[name_u]Winslow[/name_u]
[name_f]Scotia[/name_f]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u]
[name_m]Ferris[/name_m]
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]
Some of these aren’t listed as unisex, but they could be!
Thanks for the suggestions! Now we have a few more names to add to the list to think about
I prefer [name_u]Sutton[/name_u]. Of the three it has the most feminine shape and sound.
They’re all ugly
I’m surprised that mercer has the least amount of votes! I love it and have never heard it before… [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] is not as unique and [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] I can’t comment on because I don’t know if I’m saying it correctly.
I love unisex names or boy names for girls! People give you such a hard time about it though. Unfortunately every boy name I hear I say “oh that would be so cute for a girl” so now I have [name_m]ZERO[/name_m] boy names picked out. So lets pray for a girl!
[name_m]RUDE[/name_m]! If u don’t have anything nice to say, zip it
