Thoughts on third boy, Rhone Orion

I’ve posted before and the berries are always coming through to help! We’re weeks away from our son’s due date and I’m still wanting to be certain we’ve chosen the perfect name.

Our daughter is [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] [name_u]Rose[/name_u]
Our son is [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] [name_m]Boone[/name_m]

After sifting through thousands of names (no exaggeration) we’ve settled on [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] [name_u]Orion[/name_u].

I would love some very honest feedback about your initial reactions or gut feelings towards this name!

For reference here is a short list of the other names we were considering:

[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]
[name_m]Anzel[/name_m] or [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] (very close second as a middle name, [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] Ansel)
Wyeth
[name_u]Wylder[/name_u]
[name_u]Scotland[/name_u]
[name_m]Augustus[/name_m]
[name_m]Wolfram[/name_m]
[name_m]Holston[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
Tormey
[name_m]Holt[/name_m]
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u]
[name_m]Ignatius[/name_m]
[name_m]Archibald[/name_m]
[name_u]Finlay[/name_u]

Please bring on the good, bad, and ugly! [name_u]Forever[/name_u] grateful!

I think [name_u]Orion[/name_u] is a gorgeous middle name, but I’m not sure how I feel about the combo? [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] and [name_u]Orion[/name_u] sound very similar to me, I could even see [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_u]Orion[/name_u], so the sound of the names next to one another feels very repetitive to my ears. As for [name_m]Rhone[/name_m], I’m not familiar with it. It’s a fine name, although not exactly my cup of tea - to me it reads as a “weird Ron” in a sense, so it feels a bit dated because of its similarity to [name_m]Ron[/name_m], and I could see it getting misspelt often. I prefer [name_u]Roan[/name_u] or [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. That said, I could definitely warm up to the name if I had some more time to get used to it!

I like [name_m]Rhone[/name_m], but I agree with pp about the flow. Rhône [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] would be wonderful I think [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] is such a lovely name!! It sounds so nice. Maybe [name_u]Rune[/name_u] [name_u]Orion[/name_u] or another first with [name_u]Orion[/name_u]?

[name_m]Rhone[/name_m] and [name_u]Orion[/name_u] are both distinctive and interesting. [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] feels rugged, nature-y and familiar-but-unique in sound. [name_u]Orion[/name_u] is magical and starry!

Like the others have mentioned, the flow feels a bit off for me - I think it’s the repeated O and R-on sounds. [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] would be my preference  or [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] [name_u]Wylder[/name_u], [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] or [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]

Still, if [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] [name_u]Orion[/name_u] is feeling right for you, it could work

I’m in agreement that [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] and [name_u]Orion[/name_u] don’t complement each other very well. It’s that they both contain R, O and N sounds. But, I find them both lovely in themselves and if you aren’t prioritising a first and middle that sound amazing together, then I wouldn’t let this worry you. He would be [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] Lastname, day to day, after all.

Since many aren’t familiar [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] is actually indo- European so it’s an ancient name and means “flowing” - it evolved into a [name_m]German[/name_m] and [name_u]French[/name_u] name eventually.

So I think [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] is a bit different vibe-wise from [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] and [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] (it’s more…rugged adventure than adventure-fantasy?) but I think it could work.

Question: have you considered [name_u]Rune[/name_u] instead? It’s similar in sound and I think maybe goes a tad better with sibs names but it is your baby boy at the end of the day!
[name_u]Rune[/name_u] [name_u]Orion[/name_u] sounds awesome!

I also would say [name_u]Orion[/name_u] goes better than [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] so I’m the odd one out.

A few other R names: Roam/Rome, [name_u]Ridley[/name_u], [name_u]Raven[/name_u], [name_u]Riven[/name_u], [name_m]Reuel[/name_m], [name_u]Rhys[/name_u].

Hopefully this helps! Whatever you pick will be lovely!

I don’t like it at all.

I do agree [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] is a little close to [name_u]Orion[/name_u]. I love [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] but I would probably choose a different middle name.

[name_m]Rhone[/name_m] Wyeth
[name_m]Rhone[/name_m] [name_u]Finlay[/name_u]

I think the names are too similar. [name_u]Rhodes[/name_u] [name_u]Orion[/name_u] sounds better.
But my favorite from your list is Wyeth. Wyeth [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] is great.

This is all super helpful. We have decided to find a way around using too many of the same letters/sounds. Here are some of the new top contenders:

[name_m]Rhone[/name_m] Wyeth
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] (nn Archie) or just [name_m]Archie[/name_m] [name_m]Rhone[/name_m]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_m]Rhone[/name_m]
[name_m]Rhone[/name_m] [name_u]Lennox[/name_u]
[name_u]Scotland[/name_u] [name_m]Rhone[/name_m]
[name_m]Oskar[/name_m] [name_m]Rhone[/name_m]

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband’s pick is [name_m]Rhone[/name_m] [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] [name_m]Holt[/name_m] (my daughter has two middles, but my son only has one so that’s my hesitation with this name)

We also like Tormey, [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m], [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m], and our new favorite is the simple classic, [name_u]Mack[/name_u].

Any thoughts on these? Thanks so much!
