FTM here :D. We just found out we are having a baby boy! I’m loving the name [name]Remington[/name] (nn [name]Remy[/name]). [name]Just[/name] wondering what everyone’s feedback is. Loving [name]Brooks[/name] or [name]Rome[/name] as a middle name (hubby and grandpa’s middle names, respectively). Hubby’s first name is a one of a kind so I’m liking the non-tradition route.
Why don’t you look at the Nameberry entry for [name]Remington[/name]? If it doesn’t bother you, you could still consider it. I’m not sure another R middle name like [name]Rome[/name] would work. I like that you’re looking into your family and heritage to honor them.
I really like it (and am suprised at myself for doing so).
[name]Brooks[/name] seems too surnamey with [name]Remington[/name] (his name will be 3 surnames)
[name]Remington[/name] [name]Rome[/name] sounds quite dashing. I like it!
I like it! I’ve actually heard it a few times for girls, but I always thought it was more of a boy name. [name]Remy[/name] is adorable, and the name overall seems pretty versatile to me–I could see it on a variety of ages. I like both [name]Remington[/name] [name]Brooks[/name] and [name]Remington[/name] [name]Rome[/name], but I’m not a huge fan of alliteration so I’m going to vote for [name]Brooks[/name].
I think [name]Remington[/name] is a darling name. The fact that [name]Remy[/name] serves as a cute nickname option is even better! I think [name]Brooks[/name] and [name]Rome[/name] would both be nice middle names. My vote is for [name]Remington[/name] [name]Brooks[/name], though. I just like it better than the repeated “R” names.
I appreciate seeing everyone’s feedback. I had no idea that it was a gun until the name was recommended to me and I looked it up! I’m determined not to let that be a reason to not use it, since I’m oblivious.
I don’t like [name]Remington[/name] at all. You may not see “firearm” but many, many other people will. Good friends of ours used this name for their hunting dog. Can you get to [name]Remy[/name] some other way?
I don’t like the gun reference… Knowing u were oblivious to the name’s reference, I feel it would be necessary to point out that as a parent I would worry about the parents of a child w a name after a gun… As in: are u guys gun fanatics, do u have guns in ur home, etc. I know not everyone will go there but my mind goes to “why would they honor a gun in this way”
[name]Remington[/name] [name]Brooks[/name] is handsome, although very preppy sounding imo. The gun association would bother me too much to use it–I would rather a name associated with peace! I do love [name]Remy[/name] though, and if he will almost always be called [name]Remy[/name], maybe it’s not that big of a deal.
Of course there are a lot of surname type names with great nickname options: [name]Calloway[/name], [name]Callahan[/name], [name]Sullivan[/name], [name]Grayson[/name], [name]Finnegan[/name], [name]Rafferty[/name], [name]Gallagher[/name], [name]Fitzgerald[/name], [name]Donovan[/name]… and [name]Remy[/name] also works fine on its own.
I adore [name]Remington[/name]! It’s so handsome and the nn [name]Remy[/name] is both adorable and will work through adulthood. [name]Remington[/name] [name]Brooks[/name] is completely dashing! I think it would be a great choice
I think [name]Remington[/name] [name]Brooks[/name] sounds so preppy - and I love a preppy name! Also [name]Remy[/name] is one of my favorite name/nicknames. If it’s not about guns for you, people who know you will probably not make that association either. I agree with others that the alliteration on [name]Remy[/name] [name]Rome[/name] kind of throws me off.
I like the name [name]Remington[/name] and nickname [name]Remy[/name]. You can’t worry about where a few people’s minds will go…or else NONE of us would have names. We have a [name]Hudson[/name] and everyone says, “like the car” or “like the river”…and we just say “yep”. If you like the name use it! Pretty soon, the only association you will have with it is your precious little man! Congrats!
All I thought of was the gun when I heard it too. I agree with name associations though and that people are always going to think SOMETHING about your kids name. A gun to me though is a little different then associations with a place or a river… thats just my opinions.
For me, [name]Remington[/name] has three strong associations: the gun, the men’s shaver and the TV show [name]Remington[/name] [name]Steele[/name]. I also find most names ending in “ton” somewhat pretentious (eg. [name]Kensington[/name], Barrington etc…). [name]Remington[/name] [name]Brooks[/name] is so over-the-top preppy that it sounds like the ultimate “snob” name (eg. a child who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth OR parents who wish they could socialize in the upper echelons of society. Sorry but that’s what image the name conjures up in my mind). I much prefer the name [name]Remy[/name] - it’s more approachable, friendly and down-to-earth. [name]Remy[/name] [name]Brooks[/name] is much more appealing to me than [name]Remington[/name] [name]Brooks[/name].
