What is the general consensus on the name [name]Robert[/name]? Possibly with the nn [name]Robbie[/name]? Is it a strong classic or is it horribly outdated? I only know of two, one is my age (23), and the other is a few years younger, prob 20?
I’m still looking for a name to replace [name]Evander[/name] in my top two. Would [name]Robert[/name] and [name]Lachlan[/name] seem strange as brothers? I really love the nn [name]Robbie[/name], and sometimes feel [name]Robert[/name] might not fit with all my other name choices. Can you get [name]Robbie[/name] from other names?
I think [name]Robert[/name] is a bit too mainstream and mid-century to go with your other favorites. [name]Robinson[/name] nn [name]Robbie[/name] may be a way to freshen it up. [name]Lachlan[/name] and [name]Robinson[/name] are nice together imo. Also, I like [name]Anders[/name] on its own not just as a nn for [name]Evander[/name], are you considering that?
I think [name]Robert[/name] is fibe with your list, it is slightly different but not too much. I don’t really believe in the idea that names are dated, so I think [name]Robert[/name] is fine to use.I think what is most important is that you choose a name that you love.
I think [name]Robert[/name] and [name]Lachlan[/name] work fine together. [name]Both[/name] seem very Scottish to me. From your list, I think [name]Dresden[/name], [name]Thatcher[/name], and [name]Evander[/name] go well enough with [name]Robert[/name], whereas [name]Peregrine[/name], [name]Theron[/name], and [name]Cadmus[/name] seem a little mismatched.
That’s how I feel as well. I think [name]Robinson[/name] would work great with the other names on your list. [name]Robert[/name] is definitely a classic name so not outdated or anything but I think [name]Robert[/name] and [name]Lachlan[/name] don’t really fit together well.
Thanks for the opinions and suggestions so far. I love [name_u]Robin[/name_u] a-la [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_u]Robin[/name_u], but [name_f]Robynn[/name_f] is the name of my nephews Momma, so it’s a no go
[name_m]Robert[/name_m] is pretty cool. At least in the US [name_m]Robert[/name_m] is not unusual at all but [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] is. I don’t know if matchin popularity matters to you at all. Over all, [name_m]Robert[/name_m] is a solid choice.
I think [name_m]Robert[/name_m] and [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] sound like brothers. If you are looking for something more unusual, perhaps, Robrecht (Dutch form of [name_m]Robert[/name_m]) would be appealing.
My grandmother’s 1st and 2nd husband’s were both named [name_m]Robert[/name_m].
I have 2 uncles named [name_m]Robert[/name_m] (different sides).
I have a cousin named [name_m]Robert[/name_m].
My neighbor’s name is [name_m]Robert[/name_m].
I have 2 friend’s who’s husband’s name is [name_m]Robert[/name_m]
I think I have 4 guys on my facebook named [name_m]Robert[/name_m].
I work with at least 5 men named [name_m]Robert[/name_m] whether they go by [name_m]Rob[/name_m], [name_u]Robbie[/name_u], [name_m]Bob[/name_m], [name_u]Bobbie[/name_u], [name_u]Bert[/name_u], [name_m]Robert[/name_m], etc.
It was just soo very overused in the mid century and then a good number of people used it as a family name in our generation, so it feels like you can’t get away from them.
Maybe it can feel fresh again on a little one, but I could never use it.
[name_m]Robert[/name_m] is one of my favorites. I have a uncle and a cousin with this name. We call one [name_u]Robby[/name_u] and one [name_u]Bobby[/name_u]. They also go by [name_m]Rob[/name_m] or [name_m]Bob[/name_m]. I love this name.
[name_m]Robert[/name_m] is the earl on Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u].
The downsides:
It’s super popular. In the USA, it’s a top 100 name that’s never left the top 100. Going back to 1880.(Very few names can claim that.) For a long time it was top ten. Today it’s only 61. So it is going down. Slowly.
I also dislike the name [name_m]Bob[/name_m] a little. (But I do like [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] and [name_u]Robby[/name_u] and [name_m]Rob[/name_m] lots of nicknames).
In general I love this name. I would love to meet a little [name_m]Robert[/name_m]. I think it’s wonderful choice. I also like [name_f]Roberta[/name_f].
I think it would sound fine with [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] as brothers. Also I would keep especially it if you are not having a baby in the next year and don’t have kids yet.
I really like [name_m]Robert[/name_m]. I think it’s a bit old-fashioned, but it’s a classic, so it’ll never be “horribly outdated”. The nickname [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] is so cute. I’d consider [name_m]Robert[/name_m] just to get to [name_u]Bobby[/name_u]!
I am really surprised at the the love [name_m]Robert[/name_m] is getting! I wasn’t sure what to expect, as it’s not a totally berry name, but not exactly not one either! I love the fact that there is a large array of nicknames, that can easily grow with the child.
Personally, I know a 13 year old called [name_m]Robert[/name_m], and I have a 30 something year old cousin called [name_m]Robert[/name_m]. I also have a few great uncles called [name_m]Robert[/name_m], both who go by the nickname [name_m]Bob[/name_m]. I think the name sounds a bit out-dated, honestly, it’s not really my style. But as for nicknames definitely [name_u]Robbie[/name_u].
I know a 16 year old [name_m]Robert[/name_m], called [name_u]Bobby[/name_u]. His name sounds quite fresh, compared to the multitude of Jakes and Jacks in the youth group.
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] and [name_m]Robert[/name_m] both nod toward [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]–I think they are very compatible.
