Working with DH for names for baby #2 when the day comes and we agreed to add Beorn [name_u]Blue[/name_u] to the list. [name_m]Just[/name_m] curious what others thought, the type of image they got, type of person they’d imagine when hearing the name etc?
Beorn is one I’ve crushed on and I prefer this spelling due to the Tolkien link (huge fan ”)
[name_u]Blue[/name_u] is a family name and honored my late mother and late brother and will likely be used on #2 regardless of the first name or sex of the baby.
I must admit that, not having the Tolkien association myself, I initially just couldn’t get past that it looked like an alternate spelling of Björn and looked a little awkward (because I’m used to seeing the name spelled with the J). Now, having looked it up and appreciating the history (Old English meaning ‘warrior’; cognate of Old Norse Björn, ‘bear’) & literary use of this spelling, I don’t mind it.
I think the word name in the middle, does make Beorn look much more like a word itself, ‘born’, resulting in ‘born blue’.
Overall though, as you love it, Beorn [name_u]Blue[/name_u] sounds nice, and I do enjoy the alliteration of the combo.
Thank you for the feedback!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] love love the Tolkien link. Word names are so tough because they automatically color (no pun intended) whatever first or middle they’re paired with. I have to say, I started out on the fence but the more I say it out loud, the more I like it.
