I recently discovered a person named Sicil. She was Danish, but I don’t know if the name is Danish. What are your opinions on this name? I really love it, but I’m not sure if it’s usable.
Hmm… it reminds me of [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] and it’s not my cup of tea- but if you love it and makes you feel good I don’t see what the problem is!
I’m not sure it’s usable considering that I’m not sure how it’s pronounced, and if I heard it that’s probably not how I would assume it’s spelled. What about [name_f]Cecile[/name_f], [name_f]Celia[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], [name_f]Sicily[/name_f]?
You may mean Sissel, or a variation of this name. It is a Scandanavian name, also heard in Norway, but I think the oldest recording was in Denmark. I rather like the look of the name, and adore the potential Sis or Sissi(empress movie) nickname.
I’m danish and I’ve never met someone named Sicil, but I’ve met a few with the name Sissel or Sidsel, which are pronounced the same. I personally don’t like the name, but that is just because I don’t like the way it’s pronounced in danish.
But if you want to spell it Sicil anyway then I think you should! It makes it easier to pronounce internationally.
Sissel has some historical usage in [name_m]Britain[/name_m] as well, as a variant of [name_f]Cicely[/name_f]/[name_m]Cecil[/name_m]. [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] used to be a unisex name, with one interesting bearer being [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. I think Sissel/[name_m]Cecil[/name_m] is definitely usable, but the [name_m]French[/name_m] Cécile is probably the most familiar sound-alike for a girl, which might make it more practical.

I like it! Sissel is the most visually appealing/intuitive spelling to me. It reminds me of one of my favourites, the lovely [name_f]Cicely[/name_f]
