These are some of very few (especially girls’) names that appeal to me in [name_m]German[/name_m] and since, style-wise, I view them similar to how I view them in English, I thought why not ask for your opinions here?
The set is:
[name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] & [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
In case you’re interested in the [name_m]German[/name_m] prounciations:
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] - basically the same as in English, the O and R sound differently but the pattern in the same
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] - o-[name_m]TEEL[/name_m]-ye; probably similar to [name_f]Ottilia[/name_f] in English
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - the same
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - [name_m]AH[/name_m]-toor
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] - WHO-go
I think it’s a gorgeous sibset!
I think it’s lovely, although [name_f]Emma[/name_f] no longer has the same vintage feel as the rest of them. Overall, though, it’s wonderful.
Thank you both.
@eagleeyes, yes [name_f]Emma[/name_f] doesn’t have the same vintage vibe as the others anymore yet I still think it’s not gone completely, there’s still something that sets [name_f]Emma[/name_f] apart form modern names, something that gives her a timeless and ageless feel. What do you think?
(Actually, I’d say here in Germany [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] has a similar vibe while the other three feel a tad more vintage still).
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] is one of my favourite names, I love the sibset! Especially looking at the middle names in your signature too, but I’d personally replace [name_f]Emma[/name_f] with [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. If I had to mix and match though;
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] [name_f]Maude[/name_f]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m]
I do love [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and if I’ll raise my children in an English-speaking country, the set above would change, however, I still wanted to have a set of names that I really like in [name_m]German[/name_m] as that’s were I currently live.
I do love [name_f]Emma[/name_f] regardless, but it wouldn’t be my first/third choice in English but as most of the names in my signature, [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_m]Charles[/name_m], are all unusuable in [name_m]German[/name_m] (for me), I had to look at a different set of names.
I love them, both across international lines, and for you! I particularly love the style of [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f], and [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. [name_f]Emma[/name_f] does feel a lot more common, but they’re so gorgeous together that I don’t mind at all!
I also love [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], and all five of them work magically together. Some of them (like [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]) actually feel super modern to me, but I don’t think that distracts from the sibset at all.
@adelina_sophia
I’ve never heard of [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Emma[/name_f] but I’m glad it seems to be a positive association to you.
For me, the book/movie “[name_f]Emma[/name_f]” by [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] has added a vintage vibe to [name_f]Emma[/name_f], also reading through old cesuses and seeing [name_f]Emma[/name_f] used quite a bit has helped reestablish some of that vibe.
@ashthedreamer
I’m glad people seem to like them together, as I do. [name_f]Emma[/name_f] seems to have always been on my list but only when I think about names in [name_m]German[/name_m] does she come up (more) as my list is so very short and few names impress me.
The fact that [name_f]Emma[/name_f], or rather [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], is also a family name for me makes her even more appealing!
