I was wondering what people thought of these R boys names. Which is your favorite? Are there any that you hate or wouldn’t want to see used? I (obviously) love R names but I want to narrow my field. Insights & opinions welcome:
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Reuben[/name], [name]Rocco[/name], [name]River[/name], [name]Rowan[/name], [name]Roscoe[/name], [name]Rhys[/name], and [name]Reid[/name]. The ones I specifically don’t like for a reason are:
[name]Rustin[/name]- as in, that piece of metal is rustin’.
[name]Ranger[/name] and [name]Ridge[/name]- I can’t even really explain why these don’t sounds namey enough for me while I like [name]River[/name]…
[name]Rogan[/name]- makes me think Rogaine and [name]Joe[/name] [name]Rogan[/name].
[name]Romer[/name]- looks like a guy who roams, but mispelled
[name]Rune[/name]- like Elvish writing?
I think the unmentioned ones are okay names, just nms.
[name]Reuben[/name] - I like it, but I do think of the sandwich
[name]Rocco[/name] - NMS; there’s a cartoon I didn’t like featuring a dog by this name
[name]Rustin[/name] - I agree it sounds like “rustin’ metal.” I like [name]Russell[/name] better
[name]Roan[/name] - just ok–it looks to me like it’s missing something
[name]River[/name] - feels like it’s trying too hard to me
[name]Rowan[/name] - grounded, handsome, peaceful
[name]Ranger[/name] - don’t like this at all as far as occupational names go
[name]Rogan[/name] - sounds like Rogaine
[name]Ridge[/name] - sounds like a nickname to me
[name]Roscoe[/name] - I don’t like the sound of this, though I think it’s a fine name
[name]Rhys[/name] - really like this; smart, grounded, funny
[name]Ronan[/name] - gutsy, funny, and cheerful
[name]Reid[/name] - intelligent and classy
[name]Roman[/name] - strong and handsome
[name]Rufus[/name] - hasn’t quite shed the dog image to me, but I think it’s getting there. I almost like it
[name]Rhett[/name] - I hated the [name]Rhett[/name] in Gone with the Wind, so it’s a no for me. It is growing on me as a nn for [name]Everett[/name], though
[name]Romer[/name] - I agree this sounds like a roamer but spelled wrong
[name]Rune[/name] - ditto about the Elvish writing
Reuben – I knew a sweet guy growing up, so this name has positive connotations to me
Ronan – Love this!
Rune – Guilty pleasure for me. I think of Rune Glifberg the pro skateboarder.
Roan --Love this! It has such a soft sound without being girly
River – i can’t stand this name on girls and hate that it’s getting popular (probably something to do with River Tam from Firefly). i’ve only known one person with this name, a boy, and he is very handsome and intelligent.
Neutral:
Rustin – It’s okay. I like Russell better
Reid – I like this name fine but only in the middle
Roman – eh, I don’t feel much about this. I would rather give my kid a Roman Name instead of naming him Roman
Rhett – I love Gone With the Wind, but the name doesn’t give my any kind of a feeling. I like it as a nickname or middle name
Dislike:
Rocco – This just sounds like a stereotypical thug in a teen book to me for some reason, not grown up at all
Rowan – This is a girls name to me, that I LOVE on a girl. Roan and Ronan are boys names.
Ranger – Not my favorite occupational name
Rogan – I just simply don’t like the sound of this one
Ridge – I would rather have the name of a mountain ridge than be named ridge. It’s not the best word name
Roscoe – Same as Rocco really.
Romer – Again, this just has a weird sound in my head
Rufus – Eh. It sounds doggy to me
[name]Reuben[/name] - I just think of the sandwich
[name]Rocco[/name] - I don’t mind this name, but I wouldn’t pick it, personally. (Ellenelle, [name]Rocco[/name] wasn’t a dog, he was a wallaby :P! I loved that cartoon haha)
[name]Rustin[/name] - Agreed that it just reminds me of rust, or Scooby Doo saying “[name]Justin[/name]”
[name]Roan[/name] - I’m okay with this name, but it seems quite bland.
[name]River[/name] - I’d only use this on a girl
[name]Rowan[/name] - Cute name I like it.
[name]Ranger[/name] - Not a fan of this, too much of a dog name because of the definition.
[name]Rogan[/name] - Not a fan - again sounds like Scooby Doo trying to say “[name]Logan[/name]”
[name]Ridge[/name] - Dislike; I just think of an actual ridge rather than a little boy.
[name]Roscoe[/name] - Nothing wrong with this name, but I’m not a fan
[name]Rhys[/name] - I’m so-so on this name, I like it depending on the mood I’m in. If the kid is a cool kid, then I’ll definitely like the name
[name]Ronan[/name] - This name is fine, but reminds me of [name]Ronan[/name] Keating!
[name]Reid[/name] - I like Strong, gentle name.
[name]Roman[/name] - Not a fan of this name, I can’t disassociate it with an actual [name]Roman[/name].
[name]Rufus[/name] - Again I can’t disassociate it, this time with a dog.
[name]Rhett[/name] - I’m alright with this name Quick and strong, rolls off the tongue.
[name]Romer[/name] - Not a fan because, as Ellenelle said, it just seems like “Roamer” but mispelt to me.
[name]Rune[/name] - I like this, but I think I’d prefer it on a girl. It’s too feminine
[name]Love[/name]:
[name]Reuben[/name]
[name]Roan[/name]
[name]River[/name] (but also for a girl, perhaps more so)
[name]Ridge[/name] (new fun word names warm my heart)
[name]Ronan[/name]
[name]Rufus[/name]
[name]Romer[/name]
[name]Rune[/name]
Okay:
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Rocco[/name]
[name]Roscoe[/name]
[name]Rhys[/name] (this spelling is very best though)
[name]Reid[/name]
[name]Roman[/name]
[name]Rhett[/name]
Would steer away from:
[name]Rustin[/name] (stick to [name]Justin[/name], sounds too much like something gathering rust)
[name]Ranger[/name] (never a fan of the bad boy occupation names)
[name]Rogan[/name] (i don’t like the combination of R+G, I don’t like [name]Roger[/name], [name]Reagan[/name] or [name]George[/name] either)
Thanks everyone! I love how a lot of you broke them down into “[name]Love[/name]”, “Like”, & “NMS”. When you have a whole list of R names like that some of them [name]DO[/name] start to sound a little Scooby Doo’s saying them, HAHAHA! I love hearing the different opinions so much. I didn’t realize how unisex [name]River[/name] is to people, & I like it. My SO proposed to me IN a river so it will be on the list for a boy or a girl. Thanks again for all the feedback! I love you, Berries
Of your list here are the ones I like… I’m on the fence with [name]Rocco[/name] coming from an Italian family all the [name]Rocco[/name]'s I know are old Italian men and I cant disassociate lol…
Ohh, I love so many of these! [name]Rowan[/name] (which is firmly in the boys’ camp to me!), [name]Rhys[/name], [name]Roscoe[/name] (prefer [name]Ross[/name], though), [name]Reuben[/name], [name]River[/name], and [name]Rufus[/name]. I want to like [name]Reid[/name], and I like it more because of the character in Criminal Minds haha, but I like [name]Rhys[/name]/[name]Reese[/name] so much more.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Remy[/name] but I feel like it might be too short or nicknamey to be a full name. I really like the idea of using [name]Jeremy[/name] nn [name]Remy[/name]. Can [name]Remy[/name] be short for anything else (NOT [name]Remington[/name], I would not name a baby [name]Remington[/name]: NMS) ? I am leaning toward [name]Romer[/name] being a middle name only contender… I agree it’s a little weird but I can’t shake it. I actually don’t mind that people’s heads go to “Roam-er” I also like [name]Rumer[/name] but I know that everyone else on the planet is like “Why don’t you just name him Scandal?”, haha.
