I used the SS list of Boys Names from 1910 (Popular Baby Names) to try to come up with some options that might wear well & seem fresh on a boy in today’s world. Tell me what you personally think of these names on a baby/boy/man in the modern world.
[name]Warner[/name]
[name]Brooks[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Hayes[/name]
[name]Calvin[/name]
[name]Nolan[/name]
[name]Thurston[/name]
[name]Malcolm[/name]
[name]Drew[/name]
[name]Miller[/name]
[name]Harlan[/name]
[name]Theron[/name]
[name]Gordon[/name]
Are there any genius name combos that come to mind (Berries seem to be so good at this)? Any thoughts or further suggestions? Thanks Berries!
[name]Warner[/name] - ok. This one seems really preppy, annoyingly preppy. Might be the association of the character of the same name from the first Legally Blonde movie.
[name]Brooks[/name] - Very nice. Might be a little stiff for a little boy, but it will age well as he grows older.
[name]Graham[/name] - I’m just not a fan of this name. I really don’t like it. However, I’m a very small minority here in that opinion.
[name]Hayes[/name] - Like this one. Similar impression to [name]Brooks[/name].
[name]Calvin[/name] - Great name. Reminds me of “[name]Calvin[/name] and [name]Hobbes[/name]” comics.
[name]Nolan[/name] - Like this one a lot. Modern but it will grow well with him. Works on a finger-painting on the fridge as well as on a resume for a job.
[name]Thurston[/name] - Gilligan’s Island. That’s all I can think of. Not necessarily the association I’d want for my child.
[name]Malcolm[/name] - Eh. Not my style
[name]Drew[/name] - Very nice. Works well in all capacities.
[name]Miller[/name] - Maybe. Might be fine as a child, but he’ll get lots of beer jokes as he gets older. [name]Just[/name] my perspective.
[name]Harlan[/name] - An acquaintance of mine named his son this. It’s interesting. I’d not heard it before. It could work, and it’s unusual in a way that [name]Brooks[/name] and [name]Hayes[/name] isn’t.
[name]Theron[/name] - [name]Charlize[/name]. No thanks.
[name]Gordon[/name] - A little too old-fashioned and frumpy for me.
Other suggestions:

After going through this list:Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums I could imagine any of these names being used today. [name]Nolan[/name] is a family name for me so I can definitely see it on a person, I also know a [name]Brookes[/name] so I can see it too. I think someone posted about these sort of names recently, theyre very common in the south.
[name]Harlan[/name], [name]Gordon[/name], [name]Calvin[/name], [name]Miller[/name] - dont care for these, boring or sort of bleh
[name]Malcolm[/name] - in between about, not too fond but its ok
The rest are pretty cool and usable
[name]Warner[/name] - too [name]Warner[/name] Bros. for me, sorry. I have met several Warrens lately, though, and that seems to have the same vibe without the Hollywood association.
[name]Brooks[/name] - love! I haven’t met a [name]Brooks[/name] yet but I would love to.
[name]Graham[/name] - handsome and I like it, but I like [name]Grant[/name] better and I’m not terribly keen on the [name]GRAY[/name]-um pronunciation that I’ve been hearing lately.
[name]Hayes[/name] - like it, but don’t love it. I’d probably use it as a MN
[name]Calvin[/name] - absolutely love! My favorite of the bunch. Quirky but still timeless imo. I’ve always thought [name]Calvin[/name] and [name]Patrick[/name] paired together really well. They have a similar vibe to me.
[name]Nolan[/name] - I know several really love this, and I used to, but I just don’t see the appeal anymore.
[name]Thurston[/name] - eh, not my thing. I like something like [name]Truman[/name] or Truett a bit more.
[name]Malcolm[/name] - one Gaelic name I’ve never really cared for, sorry.
[name]Drew[/name] - I’m not too keen on [name]Andrew[/name] and its variants (although I do love [name]Andreas[/name])–I do prefer [name]Drew[/name] to [name]Andy[/name], but I like the fuller just [name]Andrew[/name] best.
[name]Miller[/name] - love! I hear some girls’ usage but I think it’s so much cooler for a boy. I think [name]Brooks[/name] and [name]Miller[/name] would be really handsome together.
[name]Harlan[/name] - love this so much. It’s such an unpredictable, wonderful choice. I met a [name]Harlan[/name] once and he went strictly by Lany… I was a bit sad, as I think [name]Harlan[/name] is so much cooler on its own!
[name]Theron[/name] - I like it okay, although I prefer Theoden or [name]Theodore[/name]…
[name]Gordon[/name] - sounds a bit geeky to me, but not bad. [name]Just[/name] not my thing.
[name]Brooks[/name], [name]Calvin[/name], and [name]Harlan[/name] are my favorites! I think [name]Calvin[/name] [name]Brooks[/name] or [name]Brooks[/name] [name]Calvin[/name], or maybe [name]Brooks[/name] [name]Theron[/name] and [name]Calvin[/name] [name]Oliver[/name], would be great. Have you thought of [name]Booker[/name]? I like that it’s a bit bookish and has ties to [name]Booker[/name] T. [name]Washington[/name]. It has a similar vibe to [name]Brooks[/name] to me–I would love to see it used more!
Any other thoughts on this thread? Have opinions changed at all since [name]April[/name]?
[name]Warner[/name]- [name]Warner[/name] Bros. Can’t get past that.
[name]Brooks[/name]- [name]Brooks[/name] Bros. Sorry.
[name]Graham[/name]- I know a [name]Graham[/name]. He’s great. The name is a little too soft for me, but perfectly respectable.
[name]Hayes[/name]- Reply hazy try again later.
[name]Calvin[/name]- Yes! Definitely. This one is strong and nicely square yet fresh.
[name]Nolan[/name]- Feels kind of soap-opera to me, like [name]Logan[/name].
[name]Thurston[/name]- Unusual, and very surnameish. I think it has potential, especially written.
[name]Malcolm[/name]- Of course. [name]Malcolm[/name] has a great sound, and great history.
[name]Drew[/name]- It’s a bit bland imo, but I know a [name]Drew[/name], and he’s a lovely person.
[name]Miller[/name]- NMS. I think of beer and flour.
[name]Harlan[/name]- It feels random to me- like it’s not quite [name]Harley[/name] or [name]Harlow[/name] or [name]Harvey[/name] or [name]Declan[/name]…
[name]Theron[/name]- Beautiful sound, but I can’t get past the [name]Charlize[/name] connection. I like [name]Heron[/name].
[name]Gordon[/name]- Sure. Commissioner [name]Gordon[/name]. [name]Manly[/name].
