[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!
What are your thoughts on [name_f]Eva[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f]?
(Ee-vuh and Ee-VONNE)
Eva’s a new name love of mine, and I think she works stunningly as a nickname for [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f], and gives [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] a fresher and more timeless vibe.
However, I would love to hear your thoughts.
Thank you!
I love it!
Works really well
@sammaegre @sarahjane1 Thank you! That’s really great to hear.
Also, do you think that if [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] who went by [name_f]Eva[/name_f] was introducing herself, she should introduce herself as [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] but goes by [name_f]Eva[/name_f], or just as [name_f]Eva[/name_f]? Looking to avoid the dreadful [name_f]Vonnie[/name_f] nickname. Thanks again!
I know several Yvonne’s and I’ve never heard of [name_f]Vonnie[/name_f]. I know one [name_f]Vona[/name_f] but I think that’s her name rather than a [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] nn.
Introducing as [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] or [name_f]Eva[/name_f] would be fine. If someone started using [name_f]Vonnie[/name_f] you could just correct and say “actually my preferred nn is Eva”.
I think introducing as [name_f]Eva[/name_f] would probably be simplest to bypass any confusion. I just worry as it’s not as intuitive as [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] to [name_f]Liz[/name_f] or something like that, but I really do think it works as a nickname
It would surprise me, but [name_f]Eva[/name_f] freshens up [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f], and adds a twist
I love it!
It would depend on the context. In a professional or formal setting where your formal/legal name is relevant then “I’m FormalName but I go by Nickname” makes sense, but in a more casual setting just going straight to the nickname you want to be called makes more sense.
Thank you [name_u]Sam[/name_u] - that’s very helpful! The differentiation based on social context makes a lot of sense.
I think it works, I also love [name_f]Evie[/name_f] for [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f]
Me too! Both [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and [name_f]Eva[/name_f] are so sweet for [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f]. [name_f]Eva[/name_f] can also become [name_f]Evie[/name_f] which I love about it - Eva’s sophisticated and gorgeous, and [name_f]Evie[/name_f] is playful, bright and spunky.
It works very well! As for introducing, I’d go straight to [name_f]Eva[/name_f] if that is the preferred name. In a formal setting, I think it depends because [name_f]Eva[/name_f] sounds quite formal to me and if the full name isn’t absolutely necessary then I think I would be fine to just use [name_f]Eva[/name_f].
Great point!!
Definitely if the full name isn’t absolutely necessary it would be good to introduce as [name_f]Eva[/name_f].
I think it does work as a nickname for [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] - definitely as a more mature alternative to [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and escaping the nickname [name_f]Vonnie[/name_f] which I’m not a fan of.
[name_f]Eva[/name_f] is such a sweet nickname for [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f]! I love it!
As for how to introduce her, I would say “This is [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f], but we call her Eva” and how she’d introduce herself would be similar, “My name is [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f], but I go by Eva.” That’s usually how I introduce myself in professional settings. (“My name is [name_f]Amanda[/name_f], but I prefer AJ.”) With friends she would just go straight for [name_f]Eva[/name_f] but may share that it’s short for [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f]. I don’t think it’d take too long to catch on!
Thank you so much!
Makes sense to introduce as [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] that goes by [name_f]Eva[/name_f] in a professional setting, but just as [name_f]Eva[/name_f] in a social setting
[name_f]Do[/name_f] people use the nickname if you offer it in a professional setting?
Yes! I’ve gone by AJ at many of my jobs and it’s never been a problem! I imagine a [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] “Eva” wouldn’t have an issue either, especially since [name_f]Eva[/name_f] is an established name outside of [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f].
Yes it’s so cute!
It has great potential and flows really nicely!
Great to know - thank you! [name_f]My[/name_f] only worry is that some people might not think [name_f]Eva[/name_f] is established enough as a nickname for [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] although it totally works…. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a bit worried about the letter initial difference but I don’t want to spell it Yva.
Thank you!
