[name_m]How[/name_m] do you all feel about the name Lexington for a girl? I think it is super cute and I love the nickname [name_u]Lexi[/name_u]/[name_u]Lexie[/name_u] for it.
Please let me know your honest opinions. Is it wearable?
I think it’s definitely wearable, especially with the nickname [name_u]Lexi[/name_u]. Place names are popular (think [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] and [name_u]London[/name_u]), so Lexington fits right in, but is less common.
Sound-wise, it’s a bit hefty for me—but again, there’s the nickname to fall back on.
For one, it doesn’t sound like a girl’s name. [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] does, because ‘[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]’ and ‘[name_u]Lynn[/name_u]’ are both common female names, but Lexington is really masculine sounding to me.
I’m also from Massachusetts, home of probably the most famous Lexington, and it’s not exactly a town I’d want to name my kid after. It’s a home of snooty WASPs and the only people willing to actually elect [name_f]Jill[/name_f] [name_m]Stein[/name_m] to something. (If you’ve seen [name_m]Parks[/name_m] and Rec, Eagleton is based off of Lexington). And the reason people have heard of Lexington is because of a battle, which isn’t a great association.
middle name suggestions, I guess:
Lexington [name_f]Aquinnah[/name_f]
Lexington Devens
Lexington [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]
Lexington [name_m]Lenox[/name_m]
Lexington [name_f]Shirley[/name_f]
Lexington [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u]
My thoughts exactly! It fits in with names like [name_u]London[/name_u], [name_u]Leighton[/name_u], etc. It is a lot for a first name, but [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] is super-wearable and it would be interesting to meet a [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] that isn’t [name_u]Alexis[/name_u].
For a middle name, I would pick something more traditional and clearly feminine, a la [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], etc. Those types of names are often seen as “filler” names just thrown in without much thought, but I think they really go well with daring firsts like Lexington. A unique-traditional combo like Lexington [name_f]Kate[/name_f] seems much more balanced to me than a combo made up of 2 unusual names.
