[name_f]My[/name_f] husband is really liking [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] now and I love it aside for the limited nickname options. After considering a few stretches after [name_u]Daffy[/name_u], like [name_f]Nena[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], or [name_u]Danny[/name_u], I considered what middle names we could use. We want to use [name_f]Renée[/name_f] to honor my MIL so I came up with [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Renée[/name_f] [name_u]Blythe[/name_u]. I know it’s a hell of a stretch that only family would notice, the letters to make “Darby” exist and i think would be a cuter nickname than [name_u]Daffy[/name_u].
But does [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Renée[/name_f] [name_u]Blythe[/name_u] work?
Why are you so set on a nickname? [name_u]Darby[/name_u] is a completely different name, if you want to call her that, just name her [name_u]Darby[/name_u]. It doesn’t have any nickname qualities.
Maybe if you are trying so hard to find something else to call her, [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] isn’t really the right choice?
daphne renée blythe is gorgeous !! a really well-balanced combo. definitely a good choice. darby is pushing it, but affectionately among family, i’m sure it could work and also you can do what you want. as a stretchy nickname for daphne, how do you feel about finn?
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Renée[/name_f] [name_u]Blythe[/name_u] is a great combo! I think she could totally go by [name_u]Darby[/name_u], if it became a nickname naturally. It feels a bit stretchy coming from the initials but it could work with family, and then if it catches on she could go by that I guess, but it feels like a completely different name rather than a nickname for [name_f]Daphne[/name_f].
Nicknames are frequently used in our family and I don’t like [name_u]Daffy[/name_u] so I have to come up with something else if I want to avoid it. But the name is special to me because [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is a effectively a smoosh of my grandmother’s name, she uses just D if nicknamed but thats because her family named her so similarly to her brother the better nickname was already taken. Think Daniel/Danielle with middle names Stephen/Stephanie. Im okay with a stretch to get there and I’m aware only family would be likely to use [name_u]Darby[/name_u], but I’m not trying to hear my kid called “Daffy” all the time while their young because our family thinks the names we pick are too grown for a small child. [name_f]My[/name_f] other child [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] is almost never called [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] except by me despite it being the same amount of syllables as his nickname [name_m]Arty[/name_m].
I think [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Renee[/name_f] [name_u]Blythe[/name_u] is beautiful! It flows really nicely.
I wouldn’t assume [name_u]Darby[/name_u] is a nickname for [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. But I don’t think it would be “against the rules” to use it! People have nicknames that have nothing to do with their name all the time! So why not use one you like
I dont like [name_u]Darby[/name_u] outside of it being a nickname and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] got on my list in the first place as its effectively a smoosh of my grandmother’s name, think a variation of [name_f]Danielle[/name_f] [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]. Our family just always calls the kids a nickname, our [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] is called [name_m]Arty[/name_m] 90% of the time outside of the house. I don’t like [name_u]Daffy[/name_u] and for family reasons I can’t do [name_u]Danny[/name_u]. Other than [name_u]Darby[/name_u] all i can think of is [name_f]Nena[/name_f] and it really feels like just picking a different name whereas [name_u]Darby[/name_u] feels more like a nickname to me
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Renee[/name_f] [name_u]Blythe[/name_u] is a good name.
But no, I don’t think [name_u]Darby[/name_u] really works.
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] doesn’t need a nickname if you ask me, and there isn’t really an obvious one either. If having a nickname is important to you, you should probably choose a different first name.
