Hey everyone!

So there’s a [name\_f]British[/name\_f] reality star called [name\_f]Ferne[/name\_f] McCann who has two daughters, [name\_f]Sunday[/name\_f] and [name\_f]Finty[/name\_f]. I’ve been crushing on the name [name\_f]Finty[/name\_f] since she announced it I just think its really sweet. [name\_m]Just[/name\_m] not sure if its actually usable or if it sounds a bit too ‘posh’.

What are people’s honest thoughts on [name\_f]Finty[/name\_f]?
(hypothetical, just collecting atm) x

I like it as a nickname, no more. I know [name\_f]Ferne[/name\_f] named her [name\_f]Finty[/name\_f] with inspiration from [name\_f]Judi[/name\_f] Dench’s daughter where hers is a nickname (not sure why this is her nickname as her name is Tara). It’s also a sweet nickname for [name\_m]Fintan[/name\_m].

I wouldn’t call it posh. But my accent butchers it (I don’t pronounce my t’s so it’s just ‘finny’ for me lol).

Oh, I think it’s adorable!! I don’t really get a posh vibe from it at all, it feels more like something along the lines of [name\_f]Amity[/name\_f], [name\_f]Felicity[/name\_f] and [name\_f]Serenity[/name\_f] to me because of the -ty ending? It feels _very_ sweet, maybe the slightest bit American. But that’s just my non-UK perspective!! I think it can work on its own, although I’d find it a little bit more usable as a nickname (to any name that lends to the nn Fin(n), like [name\_f]Josephine[/name\_f], [name\_f]Seraphine[/name\_f], [name\_f]Fionnuala[/name\_f], [name\_f]Finja[/name\_f], etc.!)

[name\_f]My[/name\_f] first thought was Rihanna’s fashion brand Fenty (which I now see actually closed in 2021). I can’t speak to the ‘posh’ element as an American, but it does remind me of other upper crust nicknames like [name\_f]Bunty[/name\_f], [name\_f]Minty[/name\_f], [name\_m]Jonty[/name\_m], etc. The sound is cute, though!

i don’t know. not a fan personally, as it reminds of the word “flinty”, but it could make a cute nickname for Finnila.

Ooo [name\_f]Finty[/name\_f] is adorable!

It definitely strikes me as a posh Telegraph name at first, but that’s not an awful thing. It has a really sweet sound and is usable - a little [name\_f]Finty[/name\_f] wouldn’t feel out of place in a classroom full of Tillys, Lotties, Flossies (which are trending in [name\_f]England[/name\_f] right now).

If you’re worried about the usability, maybe a full name that gives the nickname [name\_f]Finty[/name\_f] would suit you? You’ve already got some good suggestions from the other Berries but my favourites would be [name\_f]Frances[/name\_f], [name\_f]Felicity[/name\_f], [name\_f]Fifer[/name\_f], [name\_f]Fionnuala[/name\_f].

It’s cute! I see it as a nickname but as many nicknames, they can stand on their own and I think [name\_f]Finty[/name\_f] can as well.

[name\_f]Finty[/name\_f] is pretty cute, with a hint of sass and spark. I think it sounds a bit less posh than Purdy or [name\_f]Bunty[/name\_f], a bit more, well, flinty and strong, a bit more quirky? I think the fact it sounds like the make up brand ‘Fenty’ and the similarity to fashionable [name\_m]Finn[/name\_m] helps too - it feels a bit more stylish?

Unfortunately [name\_f]Finty[/name\_f] is very close in sound to the word that means “fake” in my language.
I like [name\_f]Sunday[/name\_f] though!

[name\_f]Finty[/name\_f] is adorable, firmly in the realm of ‘posh Telegraph’ baby names though (in my opinion!). As others have pointed above out, it was originally [name\_f]Judy[/name\_f] Dench’s daughter’s nickname and I think I prefer it as a nn - for [name\_f]Seraphina[/name\_f] or [name\_f]Josephine[/name\_f], perhaps? But it’s definitely a name that could conceivably stand alone!

[name\_f]Finty[/name\_f] is new to me, but I think I like it. It’s so spunky and fun, but not in a childish way. Not too posh at all. But then I’ve never understood what the problem is with names sounding “posh”.

@amyvt77 ooh [name\_f]Finty[/name\_f] [name\_f]Monroe[/name\_f] is really sweet and quirky, love that! Thank you xx

@eireann ahh yeah I saw she was inspired by [name\_f]Judy[/name\_f] Dench!! x I get what you mean about the pronunciation, that’s exactly how my dad would say it in his accent 🤭 love [name\_m]Fintan[/name\_m] as well, thank you xx

@tallemaja ahh i’m glad you like it!! I definitely see it as a cutesy name but i quite like names like that xx I agree it would be so cute as a nickname and I especially love the [name\_f]Josephine[/name\_f] suggestion!!

@Julie_NameNerd thank you, I definitely get that xx

@VEL I never thought of Fenty thats quite funny actually 😂 thank you!! x

@silver.magnolia ooh Finnila is gorgeous!! x thank you, I fully get that xx It’s kind of an odd sound haha

@smileymiley that’s true!! I think it could definitely work with all of the nicknamey names that are popular!! love it as a nickname for fifer and frances as well!! xx

@whimsyberry thank you!!

@Greyblue thank you!! i definitely get the quirky, sassy vibe and I think the ‘fin’ sound being popular helps it too xx

@Mary_Rose Yeah i definitely get the ´posh telegraph’ vibe haha i don’t mind it i just don’t know if it sounds a bit silly if you get me. Definitely loving it as a nickname for [name\_f]Josephine[/name\_f]! x

@Rosebeth I’m glad you don’t think its childish, thats the fear I have with some of the names I like being quite cutesy and nicknamey. I don’t mind ´posh’ names I just am not posh haha so I feel like people i know would judge. (not that i’m having kids anytime soon lol)
