Thank you so much to those who responded to my thread yesterday! It really helped us narrow down our choices!
I’m posting this new thread to ask about a new name!
I’ve always loved the name [name_f]Athena[/name_f], but thought it would be too out there and so it’s been on my guilty pleasure list and we’ve never really discussed it. But yesterday I heard it in the “real world” and just absolutely fell for it!! It didn’t sound weird or out of place, just pleasantly unexpected and beautiful! And when I brought it up with hubby he also really liked it!
So what do you think of [name_f]Athena[/name_f]? With possible nickname [name_f]Thea[/name_f]?
Which do you prefer out of [name_f]Athena[/name_f], [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] and [name_f]Kiara[/name_f]?
I like [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. And I think [name_f]Thea[/name_f] definitely works as a nn. I also really like [name_f]Oriana[/name_f]/[name_u]Ori[/name_u].
Thank you for the responses so far! Please keep them coming!
@bedhead [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is beautiful! She is going to have two middle names, the second one being [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f], but [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is in the running for the first middle name
I don’t mind [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Thea[/name_f] would be great as a nn. I prefer it over [name_f]Oriana[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Kiara[/name_f] best though.
[name_f]Athena[/name_f] is gorgeous! It’s a strong but feminine name with a fantastic namesake. It hits that balance of unusual enough that she won’t know many or any other Athenas, but familiar enough that everyone knows how to spell and pronounce it. [name_f]Thea[/name_f] definitely works as a nickname. [name_f]Willow[/name_f] and [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] are lovely memorable middles. I think [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] would sound better than [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f], though that depends on your last name too.
I absolutely love [name_f]Athena[/name_f]! There’s so much strength behind her and I like the goddess/mythology link. Definitely a usable and accessible name, and by far my favourite out of the ones you mentioned.
I love [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] and [name_f]Kiara[/name_f], but I think that [name_f]Athena[/name_f]'s time may be coming. I definitely see the appeal of a strong female namesake and [name_f]Thea[/name_f] would be an appealing nn option if it ended up being a better fit.
I love, love, love [name_f]Athena[/name_f]! I think I said this before but you have great taste in names haha.
[name_f]Athena[/name_f] is my favorite guilty pleasure name, and I would 100% use it if the people in my family were on board with it. I think it’s just gorgeous aesthetically, and I love the goddess connection. I consider it a strong, intelligent, sophisticated name, both ancient and modern. [name_f]Thea[/name_f] is a perfect down-to-earth nickname.
I stand by what I said in the last thread about [name_f]Kiara[/name_f] though, I love it too! In order of preference:
[name_f]Athena[/name_f] (stunning and perfect)
[name_f]Kiara[/name_f] (it’s a close second, beautiful name)
[name_f]Oriana[/name_f] (also a solid choice but I don’t love it the way I love the others)
Good luck with your decision! Let us know what you end up choosing :).
Thank you so much for all the positive feedback! We’re feeling much more confident about [name_f]Athena[/name_f], and we’re definitely leaning towards that one!!
@silversky109 Thank you so much!! I love your taste in names too! And I’ll definitely be posting in the birth announcements when she arrives and we’ve chosen a definite name!
[name_f]Athena[/name_f] is a bit of a “guilty pleasure” for me too, but thinking about it, I don’t see any reason why it isn’t usable. I prefer [name_f]Athena[/name_f] out of the 3 names you listed, but I like [name_f]Kiara[/name_f], too.
[name_f]Athena[/name_f] is lovely and a great, strong name.
However I don’t see [name_f]Athena[/name_f] and [name_u]Toby[/name_u] as siblings, [name_f]Thea[/name_f] and [name_u]Toby[/name_u] absolutely, but not so much [name_f]Athena[/name_f] and [name_u]Toby[/name_u], they just don’t fit well to me. Two very different styles.
[name_f]Athena[/name_f] is so lovely. I had a college friend with a daughter, [name_f]Athena[/name_f], and when I first heard it I found it to be unexpected and pretty, similar to your experience. [name_f]Thea[/name_f] is a great nn!
