I’d thought of it before, liked it a lot, actually, but never really seriously considered it for a child. But I think it has a cool sound, and after hearing [name]Leigh[/name]-[name]Allyn[/name] [name]Baker[/name] used it for her second son, I like it even more. I have a feeling it won’t be a huge hit, but I love surnames and occupational names for boys, so I feel it’s right up my alley, and I think it’d go pretty well with [name]Caleb[/name], [name]Everett[/name], [name]Asher[/name], [name]Jack[/name], [name]Grayson[/name], [name]Brody[/name], [name]Avery[/name], [name]Bailey[/name], [name]Spencer[/name], [name]Boone[/name], [name]Zane[/name], etc.
The sound is on trend, merging [name]Bailey[/name] and [name]Ryker[/name]. I like it as a family name. It’s not unpleasant. But I just hear it and think immediately of cakes.
I was also thinking about this when I read about the birth announcement on People! I love the meaning behind her name choice of [name]Baker[/name] [name]James[/name]. It’s quite sweet, really.
[name]Baker[/name] is right on trend with the other occupational names. I actually like [name]Baker[/name] (I do love baking, haha) but all I can think of when I think of [name]Baker[/name], is well, baking, like @jesba mentioned. I like [name]Baker[/name], but it’s still too unusual for me. I think it’s because it’s not [name]Mason[/name],[name]Cooper[/name], or [name]Bailey[/name] status, where while there is the connection with the respective occupation, a lot of people don’t even think of the occupation first but just as a name, that I can’t see it being used very often.
I do like the idea of [name]Baker[/name] though. It has a great sound!
I knew a guy with the nn [name]Baker[/name]. Though I’m pretty sure it was his nn because of one of his hobbies. Let’s just say it didn’t involve an oven. That’s what I think of.
Thanks, ladies! I was wondering about the [name]Baker[/name]/baking association. I’m not a baker, not in a long shot (I’m not a kitchen type person at all, even though I’m not bad at it. I’m much better at baking than cooking, though, for what it’s worth!), and [name]Baker[/name] isn’t a family name, anywhere. I still do really like it, though. I think it still might be a bit too unusual with all my other favorites, though…
[name]Baker[/name]? Are you kidding?!..you may as well call him Chimneysweep. The same applies to [name]Mason[/name]. Why would a parent stamp their poor child as blue collar from the get-go?
Honestly, do you think I would be posting about [name]Baker[/name] if I were kidding? I’ve been on Nameberry for nearly a year and a half now, I’m not a stupid troll. [name]Just[/name] because [name]Baker[/name]'s not your style doesn’t mean it’s inherently bad. And since when is being a baker automatically blue collar? And why is being less than middle class inherently bad?
When I was in high school there was a kid in the class above me named [name]Baker[/name]. He rocked the name it was totally him. I think it’s a viable name.
I love [name]Baker[/name]. It makes me feel warm inside, reminding me of the smell of just-out-of-the-oven Kringle (Norwegian thing my grandmother makes).
And I love the song [name]Baker[/name] [name]Baker[/name] by [name]Tori[/name] [name]Amos[/name], the perfect companion to a still steaming slice of Kringle, a delightful cup of cardamom coffee, sitting inside looking out at autumn rain bucketing down.
[name]Baker[/name] is wonderful
A company called Racine Danish Kringles is really popular in Wisconsin. It’s almost as common for someone to bring Kringle to an office meeting as it is donuts or bagels! Mmmmm.
I’m not usually into occupation names (not a fan of [name]Cooper[/name] or [name]Mason[/name]), but think [name]Baker[/name] is great! I love baking, I love bakeries, and the name seems warm and inviting.
Wow, there is so much I could say in response to the “blue collar” comment, but I won’t so as to not take away from the thread.
[name]Baker[/name] is not my favourite occupational name, but I actually find it kind of refreshing…a nice change from the ones I usually hear.
I agree, that really rubbed me the wrong way. I have a professional writing degree, but still work at the Taco [name]Bell[/name] I worked at while I went to college (as I’m still looking for my “real” job), and I love my coworkers there, they’re great people, and her comment sort of made my blood boil. But I agree, I don’t want to let negative thoughts like that bring me down (or this thread, haha!).
I agree [name]Baker[/name] is a bit unusual, but I had a huge thing for [name]Booker[/name] a while ago, too, and [name]Baker[/name] has a similar vibe to me. Apparently I just love occupational/surname names, haha. I don’t know that I’d use it, maybe if I had more of a connection to the name, but I do think it’s awesome. And I agree, it does feel very refreshing. I like Nameberry’s description of it, too.
I am having trouble getting past the word ‘baker’ to see it as a name. I do think it has a cool sound and if I met someone named [name]Baker[/name], I think I could like it. [name]Do[/name] you like [name]Baxter[/name]? If is a form of [name]Baker[/name] and it has that cool ‘x’ in the middle.
No, unfortunately, I don’t. Those cool “X” names don’t really speak to me, lol. [name]Dexter[/name], [name]Axel[/name], [name]Baxter[/name]–none of them are really for me, unfortunately. I don’t really think I would use [name]Baker[/name], either–at least, not yet!–but I have enjoyed seeing how the name is received to others.
I think it sounds really good, actually! I think its one of those names where you wouldn’t think of it as being an actual option until you sit down and consider it. [name]Wendy[/name] was like that for me. It was so old fashioned that I wasn’t sure if I wanted to use. Then I had twins and I’ve gotten so many compliments on her name! I say go for it.
I love [name]Baker[/name]. It was my grandmothers maiden name, is my fathers middle name, and I would certainly consider using it as a first name. Granted, it’s a family name in my case, but I do think it has a nice ring to it.
