I think unisex on girls works well. Less so for boys.
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]- I know one of each of these, I think it worked out better for the girl
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]- Definitely a girl name, the bird is a tiny little thing and in folklore always associated with women.
[name_u]River[/name_u]- I prefer on a girl, boy is still too tied to [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] for me.
[name_u]Devin[/name_u]- I don’t know this name, to me it seems like [name_u]Devon[/name_u] which I have only ever known on girls
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]- a berry was suggesting this for a daughter, I thought that was a great, refreshing idea
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]- goes either way without damaging the intrinsic qualities of this classic name
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]- is nms - too much for anyone to live up to male or female, a bit [name_m]Judge[/name_m] Dredd
[name_u]Daryl[/name_u]- girl
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]- either way is fine
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]: I like on both, I’ve only met little boys called [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] though so far.
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]: I know a girl my age called [name_u]Wren[/name_u], she’s the only person I know named [name_u]Wren[/name_u] but I think it works very well on both
[name_u]River[/name_u]: I would only use on a girl
[name_u]Devin[/name_u]: I know lots of people called [name_u]Devin[/name_u]/ [name_u]Devon[/name_u] of both genders I love it on both
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]: not my style for either honestly but I think its usable for both
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]: I would never name a child just [name_u]Alex[/name_u], but as a nn for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]/ [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] it works great
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]: I don’t think it works on either
[name_u]Daryl[/name_u]: I didn’t realize this was considered unisex, I’ve only ever seen it used on boys. Could be cute on a girl, but personally I’d pair it with a short feminine name like [name_u]Daryl[/name_u]-[name_f]Anne[/name_f]
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]: I would never use this on a boy
I’m not a fan of unisex names, they are okay. My name is [name_u]Whitney[/name_u] and i always find it werid when I met a guy named [name_u]Whitney[/name_u]. My dad’s name is [name_u]Loren[/name_u] and he hates it, most of the time people think he’s a girl. He always goes by [name_m]Lorenzo[/name_m] when ordering food and such. I agree with the pp that unisex names usually works better for girls.
[name_u]Rowen[/name_u]- boy
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]- boy
[name_u]River[/name_u]- boy
[name_u]Devin[/name_u]- either
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]- boy
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]- either
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]- girl
[name_u]Daryl[/name_u]- boy
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]- girl
[name_u]Rowen[/name_u]- I like it for both, but I slightly prefer it on a boy.
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]- I much prefer it on a girl, but I think it’s okay for a boy.
[name_u]River[/name_u]- I love this name on a boy. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like it at all on a girl.
[name_u]Devin[/name_u]- I’ve met plenty of both. I like it either way.
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]- My favorite name! It’s all boy to me. I can’t imagine it on a girl.
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]- My name! Maybe I’m a bit biased, but I think it works for both.
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]- Not a fan. I’ve only ever met boys with this name, so I can’t see it on a girl.
[name_u]Daryl[/name_u]- This is all boy to me.
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]- Either. Slightly prefer it for a girl.
Personally, I find nothing wrong with unisex names unless there’s bound to be teasing (which, as a teacher, I see A LOT).
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]- Either gender is fine for me, but it’s so trendy right now.
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]- I don’t understand the mass appeal of this name, so neither.
[name_u]River[/name_u]- I’ve only known girls named [name_u]River[/name_u] (two of them, both teenagers right now).
[name_u]Devin[/name_u]- [name_u]Devin[/name_u] is a male’s name to me while [name_u]Devon[/name_u] is the feminine spelling. I like it for both.
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]- This is a male name to me. I always think of [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] from Lost.
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]-I like it on either
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]- I don’t really love this name on either gender.
[name_u]Daryl[/name_u]-This is a male name to me, but I only know a female named [name_u]Darryl[/name_u], go figure.
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]- I have a male cousin named [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] and I am currently teaching two female Baileys (well, one [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] and one [name_m]Baley[/name_m]). I like it on either, though it’s also really trendy.
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]- Boy. [name_f]Every[/name_f] time I hear this name I think [name_m]Roman[/name_m] so maybe that’s why.
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]- Girl.
[name_u]River[/name_u]- Definitely a girl.
[name_u]Devin[/name_u]- Works on both
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]- Boy
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]- Works on both. I only like it as nn
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]- Both. I know two girls with this name! I know a little boy who has it but spelt [name_m]Justus[/name_m].
[name_u]Daryl[/name_u]- [name_u]Love[/name_u] it on a girl but watch out for associations with “The Walking Dead” It’s a popular show and he’s a very popular character.
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]- Girl!
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] - Could be both, as in [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] the girl in [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]Valiant[/name_m] or [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] Atkinson. I have to say I would pronounce it different in each case for boy: Row-en girl: [name_f]Ro[/name_f]-wen. But I kind of like it for a girl more.
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]- Girl.
[name_u]River[/name_u]- To me this is a girl’s name, due to the girl in Firefly.
[name_u]Devin[/name_u]- Not a fan of this name for either really. But if I’d have to pick, I’d say boy.
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]- Definately picture this to be a boy.
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]- I know both a boy and girl with this name. I guess on a girl it can sound a bit harsh, so boy.
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]- I’m not so fond of virtue names. I have to say that the ‘virtues’ seem more suitable names for girls to me.
[name_u]Daryl[/name_u]- Boy.
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]- I like it better on a boy.
They all sound like boys’ names too me except [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and [name_u]River[/name_u] which I easily see on both. And [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] which I see as a girls name because of how many girls bare it. I don’t know any male Baileys. Some names are truly unisex (nature names like [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_u]Robin[/name_u], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_u]Storm[/name_u]) and some are boys names originally but have become unisex or even totally turned girl because of so many people using them on their daughters ([name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_f]Ashleigh[/name_f], [name_u]Leslie[/name_u], [name_u]Devin[/name_u] etc) I love true unisex names…I hate when a girl is given a boy name. Unisex names that are truly unisex (to me, I realize everyone’s opinion differs) are usually nature names because you can’t easily pin a gender to something like [name_u]Sky[/name_u] or [name_u]River[/name_u] or something like that.
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]- I prefer it for a boy
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]- I’ve only heard it on nameberry and it seems like everybody suggests it for a girl
[name_u]River[/name_u]- can work on both genders
[name_u]Devin[/name_u]- don’t like the name, but boy I guess
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]- lovely name, 100% boy
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]- can work on both genders
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]- not a fan, but both gender I guess
[name_u]Daryl[/name_u]- 100% boy
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]- I prefer this on a girl, but boy would be okay too
I won’t go on about the misogynistic history behind the popularity of male names on girls and the double standard with it
Aside from that, with names I truly find unisex, such as nature names, etc…I’m not a big fan, largely because I have one and it’s kind of annoying. I regularly have my name mistaken for a more feminine one, asked if I mean “like the boy’s name”, or have people taken aback when I meet them. I’m also fairly certain I’ve been passed up in jobs in childcare or home services or pet sitting because people assume I’m a guy because of my (not uncommon on females) name.
That said, out of the names you listed, [name_u]Wren[/name_u] is the only one I prefer on a girl, but I see [name_u]River[/name_u] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and possible [name_u]Justice[/name_u] being innately unisex. Some, like [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] and [name_u]Daryl[/name_u], I wouldn’t even expect to be considered unisex, I know a female [name_u]Daryl[/name_u] but thought that was unusual!
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]- Boy
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]- girl
[name_u]River[/name_u]- Both but prefer Boy
[name_u]Devin[/name_u]- [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t love it on either, but boy because I know a boy [name_u]Devon[/name_u]
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]- love it on a boy! cool on a girl though
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]- Boy
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]- girl
[name_u]Daryl[/name_u]-boy
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]- either but prefer it on a boy
Typically, I prefer unisex names on boys. There’s not a whole lot of reason to it other than maybe that I like fewer boys names as a whole, so the good unisex ones I put to the blue side, because the pink sides already full. Also, I like pretty feminine girls names more.
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]- Nature names to me typically go either way. This one feels more like a boy name to me, but I can see it working equally as well for a girl.
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]- The exceptions to the nature name rule are birds and flowers. To me, they are all girl! I especially like [name_u]Wren[/name_u] as a second middle.
[name_u]River[/name_u]- It’s on my boys list and not my girls, but it definitely reminds me of [name_u]River[/name_u] Song. The first time I really fell in love with it though, was when I heard that [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] Clarkson used [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] for her daughter.
[name_u]Devin[/name_u]- I only know a couple Devins and I think I know at least on of each. I like it better on a boy, I think.
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]- I prefer it for a boy, but it would be pretty sweet on a girl.
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]-I wouldn’t use it on it’s own, but if I heard it on it’s own I’d probably assume boy. Go with [name_f]Alexa[/name_f].
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]-Girl.
[name_u]Daryl[/name_u]-I didn’t even realize this could be used on girls. It’s my uncle’s name, so all boy for me!
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]-Could go either way. Reminds me a bit of the first Suite Life on Deck episode where the female [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] poses as a male so she can go to school on the ship because there aren’t enough girl rooms.
Unisex names are fine, however I wouldn’t use them just because I feel like it’s a trend, especially these days with celebrities naming their babies [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] , [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Jagger[/name_u], and I try to stay away from anything trendy.
Also I have a friend named [name_m]Brandon[/name_m] who is a girl and every time she introduces herself she says, “[name_m]Hi[/name_m] I’m [name_m]Brandon[/name_m]. Like the boys name.” [name_m]Just[/name_m] seems sad.
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]- boy. I think of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]'s father from scandal.
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]-definitely girl
[name_u]River[/name_u]- boy or girl
[name_u]Devin[/name_u]- boy
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]- love on boys
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]- There are too many long versions of this name to simply name a girl [name_u]Alex[/name_u]. Seems like such a waste.
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]- boy
[name_u]Daryl[/name_u]- because the name [name_u]Daryl[/name_u] conjures up a hillbilly image in my mind, I’d rather see it on a girl, especially with this spelling.
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]- girl
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]- I very much prefer this on a boy.
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]- One of my favorite girls names. If it were for a boy I’d spell it [name_u]Ren[/name_u]
[name_u]River[/name_u]- I think I like this slightly better on a girl, but I think this is one that can go both ways
[name_u]Devin[/name_u]- I’m not a huge fan of this name, but I’ve only ever known females with it so it leans feminine to me.
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]- Prefer on a boy.
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]- I think this is a very unisex name. I do prefer it on a boy, but I may be slightly biased because it’s my husband’s name.
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]- I’m really not a fan of this at all for either gender.
[name_u]Daryl[/name_u]- I can’t imagine this on a girl at all. It’s all boy to me.
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]-I definitely prefer this on a girl. I can see how it would work for a boy though.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] unisex names! I wish they were a thing in my language (Italian). Nature names especially are totally unisex to me, while I am not a fan of using “boy” names for girls and calling it unisex, mostly because people usually don’t do this with “girl” names on boy, so I think it’s a tad sexist.
I love:
rowan
river
sawyer
and think they work perfectly on both boys and girls, which is the point of unisex names.
I tend to prefer unisex names on the gender it was originally intended for but in general, I’m not a huge fan of them, they’re just not my style.
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]- boy
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]- girl (actually love this one)
[name_u]River[/name_u]- boy
[name_u]Devin[/name_u]- boy (prefer [name_u]Devon[/name_u])
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]- boy
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]- boy
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]- boy
[name_u]Daryl[/name_u]- boy
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]- boy
I definitely distinguish between names I see as truly unisex and names traditionally of one gender used on another. To me, nature/word names are normally fair game for girls or boys equally, and while they’re not my style I don’t really mind surnames on girls, especially if there’s meaning behind them.
Generally I just try to use common sense. [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is a nature name that I like the sound of for a girl but it’s such an established male name that it wouldn’t be worth the confusion. [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is an originally male name that I love for a boy but would only ever consider as a middle name because of the hassle it would cause.
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] on either.
[name_u]Wren[/name_u] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] on either, would make an amazing nn for [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] on a boy.
[name_u]River[/name_u] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] on either.
[name_u]Devin[/name_u] - Not my style at all but could easily work on either.
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] - Prefer on a boy but wouldn’t cause too many problems on a girl.
[name_u]Alex[/name_u] - Fine for either, especially as a nn for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]/[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f].
[name_u]Justice[/name_u] - Heavy name for a boy or a girl but could work for either.
[name_u]Daryl[/name_u] - I see this as masculine but know of a couple of female [name_u]Daryl[/name_u]'s so could see it on either.
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u] - Feels more refreshing and classic on a boy.
I dislike Unisex names. They seem to be either made up, nicknames or male names which parents started given to their daughters.
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]- Boy
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]- Girl
[name_u]River[/name_u]- Neither
[name_u]Devin[/name_u]- Boy
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]- Surname
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]- Nickname
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]- Title
[name_u]Daryl[/name_u]- Boy
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]- Boy
