Thoughts on using a name used previously for a loved childhood family dog? It’s Chloe

Have always loved the name Chloe, so it’s frustrating that my mum used it for our (now passed) much loved family dog when I was younger.

I like the way it sounds, I like that I don’t know anybody with that name (other than lovely Chloe dog) I like the name meaning.

What are your thoughts? Is it a no go or worth considering?

For me I would gage reactions from family before going ahead with it. Funnily enough we had a family dog called Chloe and I think if I had named my daughter Chloe my family would have found it odd. But your family may see it as a sweet or not think anything off it. So I would run it passed your family first.

I agree that discussing with family is a good thing to do. I would tell them why you like the name. It’s ok if they think it’s odd though.

[name_f]My[/name_f] mom actually suggested I used a now passed family dog name for my baby due this summer (Molly). I would have considered it, except my husband vetoed the name immediately unrelated to the dog connection.

I agree with others to gage family reactions first, but personally I see no issue. We name children after loved ones all the time and animals are our loved ones too!

Absolutely usable in my opinion. The only time I would find it unusable is if it was a current pet of your immediate family.

I’d suggest that too. I’ve mentioned using names we’ve used on guinea pigs in the past to my mum, and she didn’t see why they’d be unusable :person_shrugging: Chloe is a bright, lovely and familiar name, so I think if your family are cool with it, I think it’s usable. If not, maybe as a middle?

I’d use it. I have a cat named [name_u]Neo[/name_u] who is very much alive and [name_u]Cleo[/name_u] is still on my list. lol And I had a dog named [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] as a kid and would definitely use [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] NN [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] for a child.

I don’t see any reason not to use it but its up to you

I say go for it. I seriously considered [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], which had the same issue for us. The decision not to use it was just because we found other names we preferred.

I say go for it, my ds has the same name as one of my husbands childhood pets.

I named my son [name_u]Leo[/name_u], it was his childhood dogs name. It’s fine

[name_m]Steve[/name_m] [name_m]Irwin[/name_m] did it (daughter [name_f]Bindi[/name_f] [name_f]Sue[/name_f] - named after a beloved crocodile, [name_f]Bindi[/name_f], and dog, Sue).
I say go right ahead if you love it!

[name_f]Beloved[/name_f] crocodile  This is cute!:blush:
I just wanted comment again - my dog’s name is Thorbjorn (bf named him. He is more his big baby ) and I still would use [name_m]Thor[/name_m] or [name_m]Thorin[/name_m] or something like that. Absolutely love [name_m]Thor[/name_m] names.
