Which place names do you think work well and which ones do you find over-the-top or silly when given to a person?
the place names I like aren’t really place names, they are proper names who happens to be place names as well ([name]Milan[/name], [name]Sofia[/name], [name]Petra[/name], [name]Paris[/name]). Oh, and [name]Romilly[/name]. I really really dislike [name]London[/name] and [name]Bristol[/name].
I don’t mind place names - I think some “places” have really beautiful sounding names, so I can see the appeal of them. But I think you have to be careful with them.
For example, I think [name]Harlow[/name] is a lovely name on [name]Nicole[/name] [name]Richie[/name]'s daughter but it would seem weird in this country where it would be so associated with [name]Essex[/name].
I love the names [name]Romilly[/name], [name]Sienna[/name] and [name]Ireland[/name] though.
I like a number of place names, however, I would never use. Its weird, I know. But I find them nice on other peoples’ children but not so much on my own (If that makes any sense). Anyway, I like [name]Paris[/name], [name]India[/name], [name]Kenya[/name], [name]London[/name], Belize, [name]Brooklyn[/name] and [name]Asia[/name]. The ones I do not like - [name]Montana[/name], [name]China[/name], [name]Egypt[/name], [name]Africa[/name],
the only ones i like are [name]London[/name], [name]Petra[/name] and [name]Sienna[/name]
I like the ones that are actually names. Like…[name]Brooklyn[/name], [name]Austin[/name], [name]Dallas[/name], [name]Sydney[/name], [name]Vienna[/name], [name]Sienna[/name], [name]Jackson[/name]…That kind of stuff.
I love place names. I don’t find any over the top really.
I think it depends where you’re from. Coming from [name]London[/name], I find [name]London[/name] weird as a name, as I do with [name]Camden[/name] and [name]Harlow[/name], both of which I strongly associate with the place. I suppose likewise though a person from the state of [name]Georgia[/name] would find naming a daughter [name]Georgia[/name] a little odd. The only ones I would find over the top would be something that would sound really strange or pretentious. I can’t imagine a little lad named Liverpool or Newcastle, for example.
Names that also happen to be places are fine (e.g [name]Alexandria[/name], [name]Paris[/name] or [name]Georgia[/name]) When people seem to choose random places off a map and try and shoe-horn them into the people names department is when it gets a bit silly (e.g [name]Scotland[/name], Swaziland, [name]Morocco[/name])
