Is [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] too dated to name a baby girl in 2025? Husband really loves it and I am on the fence. All Vanessas that i know are in their 30’s or 40’s and am having a hard time picturing a baby named [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f].
It’s still in the US top 400 [name_f][/name_f]- nearly in the top 300! [name_f][/name_f]- and having seen your other post, it isn’t too different in popularity to [name_f]Camille[/name_f]. I don’t think it’s too dated and while it isn’t a personal favourite, I can see the appeal in its frilly-but-not-too-much style and the blend of sharp and soft sounds.

Still, if you’re struggling to picture it on your baby, it might not be the one for you?
[name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] is pretty, and I love her zippy but chic sound! It’s not too dated in my opinion, despite not being my favorite pick, and can always be made fresher with a fun nickname – [name_m]Van[/name_m], [name_f]Vana[/name_f], [name_f]Vivi[/name_f], [name_f]Nessa[/name_f], or [name_f]Essie[/name_f].
I don’t think [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] is too dated and while it may not be a common choice for a baby born in 2025, I would be pleasantly surprised if I met a little [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f]!
[name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] is one that has been relatively stable in popularity since it hit the charts (its popularity hasnt changed much from the 50’s all the way up to the 2020). So to me that means it’s not really tied to a specific decade. If it’s a name you also like, I think it would work great for a baby born today.
I love Vanessa! She doesn’t feel dated to me at all. Yes, she was most popular in the mid 90s but it was a pretty gentle rise to a not super crazy popularity that has gently dropped back down to being a bit uncommon but not actually out of use by any means, so I don’t really associate Vanessa with the 90s, she may meet more grown ups that share her name than other kids but it won’t be the name of half the moms in her class so it probably won’t feel like an old person name to her/her peers, and its not a completely out there choice that nobody is using anymore.
I personally think [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] is a really pretty name and it has a lot of equally pretty and/or spunky nicknames. I’m 23 and [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] was in the top 2 names my parents were going for when they were naming me. Only other [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] I know is 26 and besides her [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] Hudgens and that’s it. So I don’t think it’s an outdated name and I feel like it wasn’t ever really popular enough to be risky to bring back at this time.
I LOVE Vanessa!! it’s soft yet strong, tons of nicknames, I’d cry tears of joy if I met a baby [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f]. you really can’t go wrong with this name
