I had previously had [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] as a “girl name that had a nice sound but didn’t fit with my style.” Then I saw someone use [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] as a boy combo and it’s safe to say that I’m hooked. I think it’s soft and gentle while still being masculine as the son of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] in [name_m]Roman[/name_m] mythology. There’s also VSEPR theory (pronounced as vesper) which is just added nerdiness that makes me like it even more.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] as a boy name? Any associations, imagery, etc.? To solidify my “idea” of the name: what are some sibling or middle names that you would pair with it?
Thank you for your help
(PS not currently naming anyone haha)
I like [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] as a boy name. I associate it mainly with the evening star. When I hear the name I imagine dusk. Some people might associate it with the evening prayers.
I like the combination [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] would also be a good name for [name_u]Vesper[/name_u]’s brother. A sister could be named [name_f]Camilla[/name_f].
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] feels very unisex to me! I actually might prefer it on a boy, it reminds me of names like [name_m]Casper[/name_m] and [name_u]Jasper[/name_u]. I don’t really have any associations with it, though it makes me think of the colour purple, violets, and stars.
I love this name! I agree with above that it’s very unisex. It reminds me of the name [name_u]Alex[/name_u] - I know boys and girls with this name and it suits them all.
I’m actually toying with using it as my option for a second girl and I specifically like that it feels so unisex since my first girl will have a name only used for girls and I want their names to feel as unique as I’m sure they will be. I’m not bothered at all by the idea that there could be boy-[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] and girl-[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] out there in the world, in fact I think it’s kind of cute (though for such an uncommon name, they probably won’t be in the same class ).
Vesper is a beautiful word (please post your favorite words on my thread on Everything But Names!).
I see it as more female as a name, but it could work fine for boys too. I think of Anglican churches, [name_f]Barbara[/name_f] Pym novels, jumble sales, village fetes, and tea parties.
I like [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] [name_u]Roan[/name_u].
I can’t help but think [name_f]Vespa[/name_f] when I look at it, hear it, or say it. It’s probably my accent.
As a result, I can’t get behind it. But I’m also not the biggest fan of similars like [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] and [name_m]Casper[/name_m], so my opinion shouldn’t matter. In fact, I probably should just abandon this post and move on elsewhere.
Ooh, I really like it! It’s definitely totally unisex feeling to me, and as you say it’s actually a male name in [name_m]Roman[/name_m] mythology. It’s got a sharp, strong, slightly dark feel to it. Very enigmatic and cool.
I can’t help but think [name_f]Vespa[/name_f]-as in the scooter. I really can’t see it as a serious name for either gender. Something like [name_m]Casper[/name_m] or [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] has the same feel but is more fitting as a name.
