Couple of follow-ups:
It’s a family name for us, but it also partially honors someone who is also partially honored by my sons mn. His mn is shared by three prior generations, all as middles. [name]Walter[/name] would honor one of those people, as well. Can’t decide how I feel about that. But [name]Walter[/name] seems like a nice fit with [name]Harris[/name], hubby likes it too (no small feat!) and I’m loving nn [name]Walt[/name]!
What are some other names with a similar feel as [name]Walter[/name]?
Oh sorry…didn’t explain. [name]Harris[/name] would be his older brother.
[name]Theodore[/name] is also on my list.
[name]Frederick[/name] doesn’t do it for me because of nn [name]Fred[/name].
I do like [name]August[/name]/[name]Gus[/name]. Not sure I like it as much with [name]Harris[/name], though.
[name]Asher[/name] is too popular for my taste. I also like [name]Bennett[/name], though. Similar feel.
[name]Peter[/name] is too common for me.
[name]Oliver[/name]. Wish this wasn’t so popular because I do like it.
I really like the name [name]Walter[/name] and adore the nickname [name]Walt[/name]. However, when I ran this name by a few of my friends who already had kids, they mentioned a popular book series called “[name]Walter[/name] the Farting Dog.” I think it might even be a movie in the near future. My husband refused the name after learning that, but I still really like it and think it is a usable name.
I second all the names on Missv’s list, and I think [name]Bennett[/name] would be a great fit with [name]Harris[/name].
I think [name]Walter[/name] is wonderful in every way. Seems like the bigger issue might be whether or not you want to reemphasize your appreciation of this relative who you’ve honored with your other son’s mn.
I mean, it can’t hurt to show your love. On the other hand, do you feel that strongly about this person that you want both your sons named after him? Or do you feel responsible for carrying on the family name? I have a family name ([name]Henry[/name]) that goes back eight generations. I feel kind of obligated to use it, but at the same time, it’s gotten stale to me, and some of the Henries in my family had some pretty epically bad luck. I guess I’d just consider what [name]Walter[/name] stands for in your family, and if you do use it, how to make it your own.
I can’t say I’m a fan of [name]Walter[/name] and I love [name]Harris[/name], your current son name… I think I followed that correctly. I hope you don’t feel pressure to over-honor this relative. If you both like [name]Walter[/name] then that’s one thing. But if you feel angst about it keep looking! I love [name]Bennett[/name]. … Hopefully something else inspiring may crop up in one if these forums
I think [name]Walter[/name] is awesome and it’s not on my shortlist only because I want to use [name]Walker[/name] as a middle. [name]Love[/name] [name]Harris[/name] too.
Other names I would use that sound good to me with [name]Harris[/name];
[name]Stanley[/name]
[name]Archer[/name]
[name]Quentin[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]
[name]Mitchell[/name]
[name]Lewis[/name] (and [name]Harris[/name] are both Scottish islands)
[name]Simon[/name]
My grandfather is named [name]Walter[/name], and I get nothing but warm fuzzy feelings thinking about the name. I like the nickname “[name]Wally[/name]” (thanks to that Pixar movie). I plan on using [name]Walter[/name] in honor of my grandfather.
My mother used it as a middle name for my brother. Very nice name.
I think that [name]Walter[/name] still works with [name]Harris[/name] as a brother, but I like [name]Bennett[/name] even more. [name]Harris[/name] and [name]Bennett[/name] both have that surname feel.
I guess my issue with double honoring is just that I think we should spread the love around, you know? I’m close to my grandpa, but there are other people in our families (who happen to have great names) that we could honor, as well. Like [name]Forrest[/name]…or…
[name]Lewis[/name]
[name]Do[/name] you think [name]Harris[/name] and [name]Lewis[/name] are to close? I should say that our girl choice is [name]Alice[/name], so I guess we might be a little drawn to that ending.
[name]Harris[/name] and [name]Lewis[/name] are rhymey. And [name]Alice[/name] too. And actually, [name]Forrest[/name] also rhymes with [name]Harris[/name]! On the other hand, that’s not the worst thing. It’s not like you’re going to be the laughingstock of the neighborhood because you gave your kids slightly rhyming names. I used to play with a [name]Gillian[/name] and a [name]William[/name]. I always referred to them as “[name]Jill[/name]&[name]Bill[/name]” and we all thought it was cool and endearing, not over the top ridiculous. They were really close with each other. Their mom called them [name]Bill[/name] and [name]Gillian[/name]. [name]Both[/name] [name]Lewis[/name] and [name]Forrest[/name] are great names. It’s tough. I kind of agree with you about “spreading the love around.” A [name]Lewis[/name] could go by [name]Louie[/name] to avoid rhyming with [name]Harris[/name] (unless you already call him [name]Harry[/name].) [name]Forrest[/name] doesn’t have an intuitive nickname… maybe “Woodsy” or something. But [name]Forrest[/name] is really handsome and strong. And [name]Alice[/name] is perfect. Hmmmm…
The rhymey-ness of [name]Harris[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] doesn’t bother me at all. Maybe because they’re spelled slightly differently? [name]Harris[/name] and [name]Lewis[/name] bothers me a bit just because they’re so similar, but it’s not a deal breaker. I’m completely sold on [name]Forrest[/name] at the moment, but I can’t get DH onboard (yet). I love that it has the similar double R’s to [name]Harris[/name]. And, actually that it doesn’t have an obvious nn.
As for [name]Harris[/name], we’re anti-[name]Harry[/name]. His nn is usally “[name]Buddy[/name]” or “Bug” (short for Scooterbug). If you’d told me three years ago that I’d call my kiddo “[name]Buddy[/name]” more often than not, I would have said you were crazy! LOL!
Well, [name]Walter[/name] [name]Forrest[/name] has a nice ring to it I love [name]Walter[/name], nn’s [name]Walt[/name] and [name]Wally[/name] are great. I must say that I’ve never heard of [name]Walter[/name] the Farting Dog - that is some seriously disturbing stuff! I understand being drawn that -is -us -ice ending, it’s very distinguished. However, I think I’d try to steer towards another ending in your boat, especially if your drawn to two syllable names as it just gets a little samey (for my taste).
[name]Love[/name] [name]Walter[/name]. Used it for our two year old. Didn’t know about the movie, but after googling it, it seems the project may be dead. A lot of people look at us like we’re nuts when we tell them what his name is – since it’s not a common name for a child right now, but many people tell us they love the fact that we used such a classic name. It was the 8th most popular name around 1930! Our [name]Walter[/name], who mostly goes by [name]Walt[/name], but is also sometimes called [name]Wally[/name] is named after my grandfather. We would never think of having it any other way. Also, [name]Theodore[/name] was our second choice. We have come across a great deal more little Theos (though we would have used [name]Teddy[/name]) than Walters, so we feel we made the right choice.
What about [name]Forrester[/name]? Sounds a bit like [name]Walter[/name], but honors [name]Forrest[/name]. You could use [name]Forrest[/name] as nn if you like.
