Thoughts on Willow

[name]Just[/name] after everyone’s thoughts on the name [name]Willow[/name]. I know on here in the Nameberry world [name]Willow[/name] may be considered quite average and maybe even a little dated but what would non nameberry’s think of [name]Willow[/name]? Still dated?

I think a lot of people generally find it sweet and arty if not a little bit hippie. It’s still got a bit of bohemian vibe off of NB and in the real world. Reverse the ratios between it and [name]Hazel[/name] in real life - more people here find [name]Hazel[/name] likable and [name]Willow[/name] not exactly the style they want - but [name]IRL[/name] I think [name]Hazel[/name] is still too crusty and [name]Willow[/name] is cool.

I do think [name]Willa[/name] is a little more versatile, but not particularly more fashionable.

I voted on your earlier poll and I voted for [name]Willow[/name]. I really love this name. I don’t know anyone with this name and I see a lot of names come over my computer sceen in my job and I’ve never seen a [name]Willow[/name] yet. I don’t see how it can become dated if it isn’t used much. Maybe the [name]Buffy[/name] the Vampire Slayer connection? [name]One[/name] of the characters on that show had the name [name]Willow[/name].

I think it’s lovely and very usable.

I’ve never liked this name. Not even a little. I just don’t see the appeal.

Thank you! Yeah I was curious as compared to [name]Stella[/name] and [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Willow[/name] came in last on my poll and last by heaps of votes… I was surprised! I always thought it sounded very graceful. Maybe it received not so many votes because it was up against [name]Stella[/name] and [name]Ivy[/name] and at first [name]Willow[/name] can appear dull when comparing her against the other names …Not sure

Yeah. It just feels a bit too lackadaisical to be a serious name. I prefer [name]Willa[/name].

Maybe it’s a location thing? I’m in Southern [name]California[/name]. Maybe it’s used a lot elsewhere. I think of a tall “willowly” blonde girl. What about the name [name]Winter[/name]? I see that as similar to [name]Willow[/name] in a lot of ways.

I never real liked [name]Willow[/name] as a name for a real person, but I met a little girl named [name]Willow[/name] when I took my LO to the play center yesterday, and I think it suited her. Her mom was clearly a total hippy, though, so maybe that’s why it seemed appropriate? I do think it’s cute, but [name]Willa[/name] is a much more wearable name [name]IMO[/name].

Hmmm Could definitly be a location thing… I’m In [name]Sydney[/name] AUS and [name]Willow[/name] is not overly common down here… Not unheard of but not a name you hear everyday or even every year! I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Winter[/name] but am not brave enough to use it as a first name… It’s a middle name for me

I agree [name]Winter[/name] takes guts lol! I like [name]Ivy[/name] from your poll. Maybe [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Willow[/name]? Or even [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Winter[/name]? I know it’s two “thing” names but I think they both make lovely combos and [name]Ivy[/name] is a little more mainstream.

I love [name]Willow[/name]!! I think it is graceful, simple, and underused.

Yes [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Winter[/name] is absolutely gorgeous and was actually our first choice months ago and we were sold but when we sanity checked the name on google a whole bunch of ‘adult’ stuff came up :flushed: so safe to say that combo got canned pretty quick!
We also considered [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Willow[/name] but my hubby decided that combo was a little too ‘botanical’

Here are some combo ideas that might help:

[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Natalia[/name] (crisp like the name [name]Winter[/name])
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Linnea[/name] (mild, fluent feel of [name]Willow[/name]. A flower but not immediately botanical sounding)
[name]Willow[/name] [name]Adeline[/name]
[name]Willow[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Willow[/name] [name]Claire[/name]

Other firsts you might like that remind me of [name]Ivy[/name] and/or [name]Willow[/name]:
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Della[/name]
[name]Bryony[/name]
[name]Calla[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]

I adore [name]Willow[/name]! I also have the [name]Buffy[/name] connection, but that’s a good thing AFAIC. It’s so flowy, reminds me of a summer breeze. [name]Willow[/name]… [name]Will[/name] o’ the wisp, a beautiful day, reading under a tree someplace warm… I love it!

I like [name]Willow[/name]. I’m a big [name]Buffy[/name] nerd, though.

I adore [name]Willow[/name]! I think it’s a beautiful, classy and flowing. I think it’s great for an Australian baby, the name seems to be received differently here then overseas.

It’s on my list as a middle name is this baby is a girl

I just find it ok. I don’t have strong feelings about it either way. [name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Stella[/name], on the other hand, I love!

I love [name]Willow[/name], but I am a sucker for nature names. I find it both graceful and strong, and definitely don’t think it was ever popular enough to truly be dated.

[name]Willow[/name] has always seemed kinda hippie dippy to me, plus I would never use it because of the [name]Willow[/name] [name]Smith[/name] connection. UGH!

I love [name]Willow[/name]! I voted for it on your poll. I love the nature connection, and I think it’s beautiful, graceful, peaceful, girly in it’s own way, and underused. Definitely not dated. Certain names are talked about a lot on nameberry, but I don’t think that reflects it’s actual popularity in the “real world”.
