Thoughts on Wyntress?

I spoke with a woman today and her name was Wyntress ([name_u]Win[/name_u]-[name_u]Tris[/name_u]) and I fell in love with this name. Unfortunately, after looking for it on NB and Google I’m thinking it’s a made-up name. I can’t seem to find it anywhere.

What are your thoughts on the name? Does it sound made-up or would it be okay to use??

I think Wyntress is a great name! It’s very unique! You could also give her a nickname and she could maybe mainly use that? Some ideas could be [name_u]Wyn[/name_u], [name_u]Tris[/name_u], [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], etc. But overall I think it’s a pretty name and you should use that:)

It sounds gorgeous. There are a few name and person related results if you search the spelling Wintress. Personally I vastly prefer the Wintress spelling; it’s got a nice simplicity to it.

I love the sound! But Wyntress looks like waitress, to me. I do think the name is made up, but it is very creative!

I’m sorry, I am personally not fond of the sound or look, either spelling. Actually Wintress looks like a misspelling of waitress. I do adore the charming [name_u]Winter[/name_u].

It feels like it belongs on a video game, like Final [name_f]Fantasy[/name_f]. I really can’t see it being used seriously, but then again, it’s a name I am not used to.

Personally, I don’t like it at all. It sounds very made up, a la [name_f]Bloodrayne[/name_f]. As @eoxima said, it sounds very video game character-like. A little bit too much for real life.

Wyntress looks and sounds like the madam of a brothel in a YA fantasy novel. Not a fan.

It kind of feels a little “special snowflake”, like it’s come out of a fan fiction or something.

It’s interesting but seems more like a word than a name, like naming your daughter Mistress, Huntress, [name_f]Empress[/name_f], Temptress… I picture the White Witch from The Chronicles of [name_f]Narnia[/name_f].

I agree with the general consensus: it sounds like the name of a snow queen from a book. I kind of like it, but then again I like names that sound fantastical. If I encountered it in public, I would probably just assume that it was a family name.

Any name that ends in -Ess is a no for me, but this is particularly bad.

I agree that it sounds like a name for a fantasy snow queen.
But, obviously, someone liked it enough to use it irl.
I think I would prefer it spelled Wintrice. As it sounds like a smoosh of [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] when said aloud.

I also prefer the spelling Wintress, and would only use it as a middle

I think [name_u]Wyn[/name_u]

At first glance I wasn’t very interested, but thinking on it I don’t think it is really all that bad…a little strange maybe, but definitely nothing horrible. As others above have said, I also prefer the Wintress spelling. I think the name could have some potential, especially with possible nicknames like [name_u]Win[/name_u], [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_u]Tris[/name_u], [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] ect. If you like the name but maybe aren’t brave enough to try it, maybe the combination of [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] feels better?
