Thoughts on Xavier?

My wife suggested [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] for our second son, brother to [name_m]Felix[/name_m], and it has been steadily growing on me. I have come to like it quite a lot. My two concerns with the name are its ambiguous pronunciation issues (I prefer Zay-vee-er, or Zay-vyer), and some feedback that I have heard that it is more of a Hispanic or Latin-American name in the US (we have zero Hispanic heritage). What are your thoughts on [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]? Does it work well with [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and our surname K@rrer? [name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce it? Also, I know it is ranked in the top 100 in the US, but I have not met a [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] irl so it doesn’t seem too popular to me, but maybe its my local… Wife would like to use [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] as a mn. Any insights encouraged. Thanks

I think that [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] is an awesome name! It’s proud-sounding and strong. I guess the way I’ve pronounced it is more of the X sound in the front ( like Egg-zay-vee-er if that makes any sense haha) but Zay-vee-er sounds just fine as well! And I wouldn’t worry about it sounding hispanic or Latin-American, which isn’t the worst thing in the world either haha. The connection there is because it’s spelt like [name_m]Javier[/name_m] (which is pronounced Hah-vee-air usually).
And [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] sounds great!
Congrats on your second boy!

I think [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] is a nice name, and it works well with [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. I honestly didn’t know that there was troubles with it pronunciation (I thought everyone would say it the same!), but I say “Zayv-ee-er” with the most stress on the “Zay” sound. That said, @hannahcarmeen has a good point, some people may pronounce it was an ‘X’ rather than ‘Z’, but this is a very British pronunciation, and if you are in the US then I can imagine it being as much of an issue.

I’m not a fan of [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]. I use the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation myself, so it’s nothing like the way you say it, but I think hardly anyone in the US would use the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation. I don’t know why I don’t like [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]. Maybe because it seems rather dated where I live. I also don’t like the X at the beginning of a name.

I love [name_m]Xavier[/name_m].
It goes well with [name_m]Felix[/name_m] as well

Thanks for the insights. Any other thoughts/opinions? Also, thinking about nickname options, maybe Xay or Xavy, Xave, X…?
