We are struggling with boys names. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think we could get away with calling are new born [name_m]Fox[/name_m]? We love the name but would like honest opinions as I know it’s not everyone’s taste. Any other suggestions? We also like [name_u]Teal[/name_u] and [name_m]Abel[/name_m].
I’m not a fan. I’m aware of it being used as a name, but [name_m]Fox[/name_m] to me is strictly a word/animal. It’d be an interesting nickname, but as a given name I wouldn’t do it. I’m not sure if it’s your style, but have you thought of using a name that means fox like [name_m]Reynard[/name_m]/[name_m]Renard[/name_m] or [name_m]Todd[/name_m]? That way your son will have a strong name to fall back on and a nickname you also love.
[name_m]Abel[/name_m] [name_m]Reynard[/name_m] would be nice.
Some other suggestions: [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], [name_m]Abram[/name_m], [name_u]Noel[/name_u], [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], [name_m]Leif[/name_m], [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m], [name_m]Felix[/name_m]
I would like [name_m]Fox[/name_m] for a middle name. As a first name, it depends on middles or last name.
I wouldn’t recommend [name_m]Abel[/name_m] since it has such strong religious association. [name_u]Teal[/name_u] is interesting though I find [name_u]Cyan[/name_u] to be a bluish color that works better as a name.
i love [name_m]Fox[/name_m]! it’s very spunky, fun, but the sheer phonetics give the name a very sophisticated feel. i really could picture this name on anyone: [name_m]Fox[/name_m] - the southern cowboy, [name_m]Fox[/name_m] - the nice guy from the office, [name_m]Fox[/name_m] - the guy who delivers your pizza, [name_m]Fox[/name_m] - the eccentric aristocrat at the end of the street. i think this is because there are few to none associations with the name (personally, it reminds me of the Fantastic Mr. [name_m]Fox[/name_m], which is great!).
i would easily use [name_m]Fox[/name_m], as both a fn and a mn.
my only concern with the name is that the middle name might me quite tricky - what could possibly top a fantastic first like [name_m]Fox[/name_m] (okay that sounded really cheesy, like i got it from a commercial or something)?
to sum it up, I encourage you to use it, but, in the end, it is your choice. c: good luck!
[name_m]Fox[/name_m] is my #1 boy name. I put [name_m]Fox[/name_m] in the same category as [name_m]Forest[/name_m], [name_u]Glenn[/name_u], [name_m]Stone[/name_m], or [name_u]Reed[/name_u]. It’s a nature name that’s transcended the “hippie” association. It’s solid, masculine and will be taken seriously. I’d definitely choose an establish mn.
I also adore [name_m]Abel[/name_m]. It’s so handsome and unexpected (although it’s been steadily rising up the SSA list). I’m neutral on [name_u]Teal[/name_u].
There was a teacher at my high school that named his son [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. Everyone responded well to it. He was the ‘cool’ teacher that all the teens hung out with. I think it’s cause he was so young himself. I also like [name_m]Abel[/name_m] but not [name_u]Teal[/name_u] on a boy. I just know a girl [name_u]Teal[/name_u] so I can’t get over that association.
This is a tough one-- I think it would make a fabulous middle name (or nickname), but I would be hesitant to use it as a first name. Seems like it’s missing something. I also think a middle name would be tricky following [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. I like the name [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] which I think falls in this category (although the association to the movie may be an issue for you). [name_u]Storm[/name_u] is also a strong name. Good luck!
I want to chime in and say… [name_m]Fox[/name_m] is a handsome name, and I think it makes a fine “official” first name. (Although the [name_m]Reynard[/name_m]/ [name_m]Todd[/name_m] idea is a good one. I’d add [name_m]Felix[/name_m] to that list.) If you love it, and it feels right, use it!
I think a strong classic will pair well with [name_m]Fox[/name_m]:
[name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]Stephan[/name_m]/ [name_m]Steven[/name_m]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_u]Curtis[/name_u]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]Martin[/name_m]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]Timothy[/name_m]
I love it, and I think if you love it then you should do it. And I agree with the pp that a strong classic mn works best. My favorite suggestion was [name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], and I also like [name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m].
I love all of that bunch: [name_u]Teal[/name_u] (awesome, needs to be used more often), [name_m]Abel[/name_m] (a understandable favorite here on NB), and [name_m]Fox[/name_m] (sly handsome name that works best as a short middle name though)!
And as others have suggested … You could use a name that means fox instead (I love [name_m]Todd[/name_m])
If you did use the names you listed previously, I’d go with [name_m]Abel[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] over [name_u]Teal[/name_u] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] (too many wordy names in one?)
