What does everyone think of [name_f]Opal[/name_f]? Is it enough for a stand alone first name?
Is it too old fashioned or old sounding?

What combinations do you like? Is [name_f]Opal[/name_f] better off in the middle?

(I have been watching When Calls the Heart, and there’s a young girl named [name_f]Opal[/name_f] on there that’s the sweetest thing, it’s been making me swoon for the name!)

I like [name_f]Opal[/name_f] and I feel it would work well as a first name alongside [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] or [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. I would just stay away from noun middle names. Some suggestions…

My cousin has a 3 year old named [name_f]Opal[/name_f]. I think it’s a great name. I’d pair it with something old fashioned, but not another word.
[name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]

I loved [name_f]Opal[/name_f] for a long time! I had a few reasons for not keeping it on my list: My husband’s neighbor had a pug named [name_f]Opal[/name_f], so that ruined it for him, and I couldn’t think of a nickname that I like for it. It’s short enough that it doesn’t need a nickname, but I like for names to have intuitive nickname options, and all I could think of was Opie, which didn’t work for me. But those are my personal weird reasons for not liking it, if it hadn’t been for that I think it’d still be on our list, definitely for a middle, possibly a first!

I personally love [name_f]Opal[/name_f]! In my opinion, it’s one of those old names that has that vintage appeal for modern day use. Go for it!

[name_f]Opal[/name_f] is really sweet! I think it works fine in the first or middle spot.

Some middles:
[name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_u]Marion[/name_u]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]/[name_f]Imogene[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Geraldine[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Celestine[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is my favorite!

In theory, I like it. My partner likes it too, it was his grandmother’s name. I don’t think I could use it as a first name, but it would make a wonderful middle.

[name_f]Opal[/name_f]! That kid could make anyone love the worst name in the world; she’s the sweetest! (Not that [name_f]Opal[/name_f]'s the ugliest name in the world; not by a long shot!)

I love When Calls the Heart, and little [name_f]Opal[/name_f] Weis in particular, haha (at least I THINK I’ve sleuthed out her full name is Opal Weis. I’ve been binge-watching the entire series in anticipation of the 18 February premiere!). I’ve always been quite fond of [name_f]Opal[/name_f], but mostly because it’s my grandmother’s and sister’s birthstone. I’ve more considered it a MN contender for me, but I’d love to meet a little [name_f]Opal[/name_f]. It’s a lovely name. Something like [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f] or [name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] seems particularly lovely to me, but I’m just spitballing for now. I would love to see [name_f]Opal[/name_f] gain some popularity–use it!

I really like opal, it’s timeless yet cute. I wouldn’t have the middle name as another gem though (as could be overkill), I’d go classic.

I just finished season 3 on Netflix! It’s true her name could be something truly awful but she is such an endearing character that it would be lovely on her! She makes my heart melt!

[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] suggestions so far!

The [name_f]October[/name_f] connection only increases the appeal of [name_f]Opal[/name_f] as we are hopefully expecting a baby mid that month!

 [name_f]Opal[/name_f]'s the best! There’s a little boy counterpart who is just as adorable waiting for you next season (at least I THINK it’s next season–I watched them all together so I can’t remember where each character comes in lol.)–I’m nearing the end of the fourth season. My favorite show I’ve been watching as it airs is over now, so I’ve just been bingewatching this. :stuck_out_tongue: I’m glad you liked [name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]!

I love [name_f]Opal[/name_f]! I think it’s pretty without being over sweet, which is a fine balance that I like.

I adore [name_f]Opal[/name_f].

[name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] sounds so pretty to me

I definitely think it can work as a name, like [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. I’m not a fan myself, but I think a longer middle name like [name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], or [name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] would make for a lovely combo.

I actually love [name_f]Opal[/name_f], but I don’t think I’d personally be brave enough to use it. I think of [name_f]Opal[/name_f] as very similar to [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], though more uncommon.

[name_f]Opaline[/name_f] has been on my guilty pleasure list for ages, but I think [name_f]Opal[/name_f] is more wearable.

My general rule for combos if one (middle or first) name is unusual, I make the other one proportionally more common. I think [name_f]Opal[/name_f] is unexpected but not out-there, so I think that gives you a lot of leeway for familiar but not necessarily top 100 middle names (or of course a top 100 if you want one–for example, [name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] appeals to me, though it may be a little too alliterative for some tastes).

For an [name_f]October[/name_f] baby this would be even better! I think you should definitely use it for at least a middle if you have an [name_f]October[/name_f] daughter

I actually know of a little [name_f]Opal[/name_f]! I think it’s sweet and charming.

I think [name_f]Opal[/name_f] is just too sweet! It makes me think of Because of [name_u]Winn[/name_u]-[name_f]Dixie[/name_f], which I loved when I was little, so I have quite fond associations with the name. I don’t think [name_f]Opal[/name_f] is too old fashioned at all. Especially taking into account how well it fits in with some current favorites such as [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] as someone else pointed out. Not too old at all, just a darling name!

I love [name_f]Opal[/name_f]! I think it could definitely work! [name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] and [name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] are really lovely
