There’s some standard, popular names I’m loving atm, I’ve loved a lot of them since I was a kid, and popularity itself doesn’t bother me - I know how the odds and stats realistically work in terms of classroom popularity. I’m just not sure if they’re too ubiquitous for my liking or not (names that you can’t go down the street without hearing constantly kinda thing). I’m looking for some opinions to sway me one way or the other on them!
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]: like this
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]: love this
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]: lovely but nms
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]: I prefer [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] is too frilly for me. All the Isabellas/etc I know go by [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] or [name_f]Bella[/name_f] though, so it’s ok to me.
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]: love [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], it’s so cute! [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is a little much; feels almost standoffish to me?
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]: a bit plain to me
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]: love this
[name_f]Emily[/name_f]: love it
[name_f]Ella[/name_f]: like this
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]: too bright for me, but nice nonetheless
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]: not a fan
[name_f]Zoey[/name_f] ([name_f]Zoe[/name_f] just feels incomplete to me?): The spelling [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] is fine but not a fan of the name personally
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]: like this but a bit plain
[name_f]Leah[/name_f]: feels incomplete to me
[name_f]Savannah[/name_f]: like this but feels a bit past its prime
Unfortunately, I think it really depends on where you are. The names that are crazy-popular in my circles aren’t even on this list: [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], and [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. The only names from your list that are ubiquitous in my circles are [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] was, but it has fallen off. I’ve only ever encountered one [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and one [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and they are young adults.
[name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] are the ones that I’d consider to be everywhere. I know numerous Emmas of different ages, I’ve met countless Olivias and Emilys. There are lots of little Sophias where I work and I had 2 in my class back when I was at school. They’re names to me that have been popular for ages and are just constantly used if that makes sense
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] and [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] are all well used and popular but I don’t feel like I’ve been inundated by them. I like [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_f]Mia[/name_f] feel like newly popular names which to me means they’re not ubiquitous. I’ve only ever encountered 2 Avas and perhaps 2 or 3 Mias and that’s working with kids. I really like [name_f]Mia[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. They’re sweet but versatile
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Leah[/name_f], [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] and [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] don’t feel overused to me. I’ve met very few, maybe one or at most two of each and of various ages and at very different times. I like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] for its sharp sounds, [name_f]Leah[/name_f] for its strong but sweet classic feel, [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] for that great Z sound, and [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] for its funky, sunny feel.
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is one that I used to encounter a lot but haven’t done for ages -one that’s well known but it’s not being used so much now. It’s a fave of mine, it feels fresh and bubbly
My area tends to use popular names a lot so I hear many of these. The ones I hear most often are:
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] (probably the only name I hear more than my own. I can think of at least 12)
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] (also [name_u]Avery[/name_u], which probably makes it seem like I hear more than I do. Still, I could easily name half a dozen)
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] (had a class with 4 girls in it first semester. 2 of us were named [name_u]Abby[/name_u] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. Also been in a class of 7 where 3 of us were [name_u]Abby[/name_u]. I can think of at least 12)
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] (very popular for girls my age but has been losing steam with younger girls. Still a lot of girls but doesn’t feel as much like you’re tripping over them everywhere lol)
[name_f]Savannah[/name_f] (not as much with younger girls too but there were 5 girls named [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] in my middle school class of about 150 kids)
I hear [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] a lot too but they bother me less.
I actually only know a couple girls named [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] (both go by [name_f]Bella[/name_f]). I know more girls named [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]/le. I also only know one [name_f]Mia[/name_f]. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] tbh. [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is extremely popular in my area so while I’m hearing less of [name_f]Ella[/name_f], I still feel like I hear it constantly. I know one [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] (baby born 2018). I can think of a couple girls named [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]/y but not a ton. [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] is one I heard a lot when I was younger (it was one of my least favorite names because of that. Still not my favorite but I feel like I hear it less). I have a biased perspective of [name_f]Leah[/name_f] because I live with one lol and it stands out when I see it so I feel like I hear it a lot but maybe not.
Personally, popularity aside, I love [name_f]Mia[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] from this list.
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] - [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like the ‘scar’ sound/connotation
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] - Really dislike the [name_f]Gail[/name_f] part
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - Makes me think of olives
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - Beautiful, but yes, it’s super popular.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - I’ve heard/encountered lots of them.
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] - Coming from a circle of friends where most have very cultural names, one of my only friends who uses English names has an [name_f]Ava[/name_f] of her own.
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - I’m not into this at all.
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - A beautiful name that I hear a lot.
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] - Adorable. I don’t hear them that often.
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] - Very popular but also very classic and timeless. I think you can’t go wrong with [name_f]Abigail[/name_f].
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] - I used to think this was much more of a 90’s name, but then I taught about 5 of them at once in middle school a few years ago.
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] - Pretty, but to me this has always been too short.
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] - I’ve never met one in real life.
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] - Cute, but for me almost too whimsical.
[name_f]Zoey[/name_f] ([name_f]Zoe[/name_f] just feels incomplete to me?) - See above ([name_f]Chloe[/name_f])
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f] - Beautiful and timeless. Less Hannahs out there than Abigails.
[name_f]Leah[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Leah[/name_f]. She’s also a great middle name choice rather than some typical fillers like [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] etc.
[name_f]Savannah[/name_f] - I’ve seen her more on nameberry than anywhere else.
Right now I am loving [name_f]Mia[/name_f] & [name_f]Lia[/name_f] (an international version as opposed to [name_f]Leah[/name_f]) from your list. Simple and gorgeous
