Thoughts, Suggestions, Opinions?

Disclaimer: my boyfriend and I are at least 5 years away from TTC however I’m a major planner/dreamer. And I promise to try to keep this short and organized!

I’ve always said that my children, without fail, will have family names as middle names. In our case there will most likely be 3 options: [name_u]Jean[/name_u] (my family), [name_f]Georganne[/name_f] (his family), and [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] (also his family).

My boyfriend comes from a VERY clear Irish background and I’ve always loved the idea honoring that heritage but I’m scared that Irish names won’t go over well in [name_f]Florida[/name_f]. For example, my favorite would probably be [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] but I don’t see that going over well in a classroom (which I always think about as I am going to be a future educator). But I feel like all the “American Irish” names are just not cutting it for me. Any ideas for pretty Irish names (that go with one of the above 3 middle name options) but won’t give the child and everyone around a headache about spelling/pronunciation? I’m thinking that it may be a lost cause, tbh. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think using a name like [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] in the US in general would be hard or do you think it would be manageable?

Now beyond the Irish names, what names flow with any of the above three? I feel like [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is the easiest to pair things with (in my mind, it’s a bit of a filler but it is also my mom’s name so…) but I would love opinions and suggestions! I’m literally all over when it comes to names with the exception of “boy names for girl”. Some examples of names I like: [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]/[name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_f]Calla[/name_f], [name_f]Cressida[/name_f], [name_f]Nell[/name_f]. My boyfriend likes names like: [name_f]Danielle[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Melissa[/name_f]. So you could say we’re a bit different lol.

Last thing and then I promise to finish it! Like I said, my boyfriend very clearly comes from an Irish background, his last name begins with [name_m]Mac[/name_m] and I’m not a HUGE fan of alliteration so I’d like to avoid M names (unless you think it’s literally the perfect pairing) with the exception of [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] as it’s a family name :slight_smile:

Sorry for this being like a novel!

Hello Dear, :smiley:

[name_m]How[/name_m] about
[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] ([name_u]Unique[/name_u] spelling of [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f])
[name_u]Carlin[/name_u] (Similar to [name_f]Carly[/name_f])
Daeyln (feminine and slightly unique.pretty sure it is Irish)
[name_u]Darby[/name_u] ([name_u]Darby[/name_u] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]?) <3
Saoirse (Hehe)
Sinead (Unique but not at all weird)
Bevin (I strangely like this,maybe you will too?) ”

@perfectlyimperfect Thanks so much, lovey!

I feel awful but I’m not falling for any of those names! [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] & [name_u]Carlin[/name_u] I actually have really negative associations with, [name_u]Darby[/name_u] is really close to [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] which is an off-limits name, Daeyln is a bit too wacky looking for me, [name_u]Bevin[/name_u] reminds me of [name_u]Devin[/name_u] which is another off-limits name. I don’t mind [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] and [name_f]Sinead[/name_f] but I don’t know if I see myself calling after a little [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f]/[name_f]Sinead[/name_f] if that makes sense? I swear I’m not trying to be mean, but I hope giving my thoughts behind what I’m thinking help a little :slight_smile:

[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] would be my pick :slight_smile:

@felicitysmoak thanks love!

I always though [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] was pretty but I recently made my boyfriend watch Shrek and he certainly made it clear how he feels about the name :frowning:

Hello!
Irish names are definitely very beautiful and I hope that these ideas may strike your fancy. I don’t believe that any of them are too hard to pronounce…

[name_f]Niamh[/name_f] (pn Neeve)
[name_f]Siobhan[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Sorcha[/name_f]/ [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] (pn Sorsha)
[name_f]Ciara[/name_f]
[name_u]Keeva[/name_u]
[name_f]Alana[/name_f]

I think that most of the names above do go with your middle names. I hope you like them :slight_smile:

Re [name_f]Aoife[/name_f], etc, I’m not American, but I imagine they can learn? lol I really don’t understand why people are so hesitant to use foreign names. I’m sure some will recognize it and others can learn. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like when immigrants have different names and come to the US.
