Would love some thoughts on the name [name]Ezra[/name] for a girl…??? Could also call her Ezzie or Ez for nicknames. Not sure if I am just having “hormonal” moment so would appreciate all thoughts. Thanks!
[name]Ezra[/name] is a boy’s name, a biblical one with a long history of use. [name]Just[/name] because it ends in an A doesn’t make it okay for it to be used for girls! You might as well name a girl [name]Joseph[/name] or [name]Isaac[/name].
I wouldnt use a traditional biblical boys name on a girl. It is one thing to use something trendy, like [name]Logan[/name] or [name]Riley[/name], but with an old fasioned ancient name it just seems wrong. Like a previous poster stated, it would be like naming her [name]Joseph[/name].
If you like [name]Ezra[/name] how about [name]Eliza[/name]?
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it…sounds more like a girls name to me
I think it’s definitely a boy’s name. What about [name]Eliza[/name]?
While 88 girls did get named [name]Ezra[/name] last year (that is a VERY small number), 1319 boys were named [name]Ezra[/name], which puts [name]Ezra[/name] pretty high up in the rankings for boys (it’s in the 200’s I believe). So naming a girl [name]Ezra[/name] is like giving a girl a relatively popular boys name. Sure, it ends in an “a” but it is a historically important, biblical boys name and you wouldn’t name your daughter [name]Isaac[/name] or [name]Joshua[/name], would you?
There are so many other beautiful girls names out there that have the same feel as [name]Ezra[/name]. [name]Esme[/name], [name]Ezri[/name], [name]Eliza[/name] are all great options.
Can you tell me how to get statistics on a name - ie. how many children were given a certain name in 2009? I’ve been to the SSA website but only seem to be able to learn the popularity of a name if it is within the top 1000. Thanks!!! Much appreciated.
You have to download a file from the website. It has every name with 5 or more uses since 1885 organized by year. It’s like a NE’s dream come true ![]()
Got it! Thanks so much.
