Thoughts?

Could I get your general thought on these names that have been on my mind lately? Thanks!

[name]Miriam[/name]
[name]Julianne[/name]
[name]Hope[/name]
[name]Maya[/name]
[name]Frances[/name]
[name]Gwendolyn[/name]

Also if you have any other suggestions on girls names I might like, they would be very appreciated

[name]Miriam[/name]- [name]Love[/name] this. It sounds like a flappers name. I picture a showgirl perched over her makeup counter backstage perfecting her porcelain skin.
[name]Julianne[/name]- I prefer just [name]Julia[/name]. [name]Julianne[/name] seems dated.
[name]Hope[/name]- Nice, but I don’t think it has much potential as a first name. I see it as a middle name.
[name]Maya[/name]- I think this is purely trendy and unnatractive, sorry.
[name]Frances[/name]- I love this. It’s a bit clunky but its still sheek and feminine to me. I picture a woman in a fur coat ice skating in Central [name]Park[/name] who wears red lipstick every day, all day.
[name]Gwendolyn[/name]- Reminds me of fairies and magical gardens.

I love your descriptions of these two! Thanks for your opinions.

Such a diverse list!

[name]Miriam[/name]- Feels grandmotherly yet delicate at once, and it carries some religious heft because it was supposedly the original name of the Virgin [name]Mary[/name].
[name]Julianne[/name]- I find that the nne kind of diminishes [name]Julia[/name]. I like [name]Juliet[/name] most of [name]Julia[/name] names, but they all feel a little drab to me… Though there is that great Beatles song lullaby for a daughter named [name]Julia[/name].
[name]Hope[/name]- A little prim, a little [name]Pollyanna[/name]. On the other hand, it’s sleek and feels more modern than many virtue names.
[name]Maya[/name]- [name]Love[/name] the meaning of [name]Maya[/name] (“illusion”) [name]Love[/name] the filmmaker [name]Maya[/name] Deren… I would consider it if it weren’t so popular.
[name]Frances[/name]- Really sweet and gently frumpy. St [name]Francis[/name] of [name]Assisi[/name] is an incredible namesake.
[name]Gwendolyn[/name]- Princessy without being over-the-top froufrou. I love the earthy, simple nickname [name]Gwen[/name]. It does contain “dol” which somehow makes me think of “dolorous” “doldrums” etc.

[name]Miriam[/name] - interesting multicultural name. I’ve known a few modern Middle Eastern girls with this name, so that is what I picture. It has depth and history, which ([name]IMO[/name]) make it a good choice.
[name]Julianne[/name] - Seems overly complicated. Juilet or [name]Julia[/name] [name]Anne[/name] perhaps?
[name]Hope[/name] - I like it, but don’t love it.
[name]Maya[/name] - I wouldn’t name a child “illusion” - or something that means illusion.
[name]Frances[/name] - Meh
[name]Gwendolyn[/name] - pretty, medieval sound…which makes it magical…but will still age well.

There’s something a bit 1920’s ([name]IMO[/name]) about the names you listed. Other names that were you used in 1920’s that you perhaps would like [name]Tallulah[/name] (actress); [name]Margery[/name], [name]Lillian[/name], [name]Hazel[/name], (4 names from the top 100 of the decade); [name]Stella[/name], [name]Geneva[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name] (ranked 100-120).

[name]Miriam[/name] - I’ve got an good friend with this name. She was expelled (only for a week) from school at 14 for dying her hair blue. She’s really cool, she’s a bookbinder and works at a museum. Very cool girl.
[name]Julianne[/name] - [name]Julianne[/name]… [name]Moore[/name]. Beautiful red haired goddess. I do prefer [name]Julia[/name] though, I love the simplicity.
[name]Hope[/name] - Seriously… makes me think of blooming Days of Our Lives. It was salvation at the weekends coming home from boarding school, but man I hated [name]Hope[/name].
[name]Maya[/name] - Beautiful, especially spelled [name]Maja[/name] or (!!!) [name]Maia[/name] - there’s a star in the Pleiades named [name]Maia[/name]. A star!!!
[name]Frances[/name] - Classic and grown up. Buttoned up and full skirted to. But pretty.
[name]Gwendolyn[/name] - [name]Gwendolen[/name] would be better, but pretty none the less. I love [name]Gwen[/name] names. [name]Just[/name] gorgeous.

I love [name]Miriam[/name] and [name]Frances[/name], both beautiful and stately, prim yet don’t mind getting dirty, historical, rich, lovely.

I prefer the spelling of “[name]Gwendolen[/name]” for that name, as it’s traditional, and doesn’t get lost in all the “lyn” names (of which there are many). It’s my least favourite [name]Gwen[/name] name, and I, for some reason, always always always think of [name]Glenda[/name] the Good Witch, but it does have a lovely, magical feel that evokes timelessness.

I adore [name]Hope[/name], as well. Sweet yet no-frills.

Thanks for your suggestions! Maybe I’ll look at some lists from the 1920s! The 20s were on of my favorite decades

The social security website is great for that sort of thing - Top names of the 1920s

I’m all for [name]Julianne[/name]

I’m obviously biased but I’ve always loved my name. It’s unique enough to standout from all of the [name]Julie[/name]'s but common enough that people aren’t too caught off guard by it

I usually get really great reactions to it. Growing up my Mom liked to nn me [name]Jewels[/name]. At 11, I decided I wanted to shorten it to [name]Juli[/name] which has still stuck for informal things but I go by [name]Julianne[/name] professionally.

I like [name]Frances[/name] but more as a middle name “[name]Hope[/name] [name]Frances[/name]”

You might like [name]Francine[/name] too
