Not expecting, just experimenting. Curious on your general thoughts of the name [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]? Is it now dated for 2024 especially with nickname [name_f]Maddy[/name_f]? I go back and forth on this name alot… It is a family name, but I am not sure how it wears now in 2024. I would be open to spelling it [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] as well, just not [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] as I can personally only see that spelling making sense as ‘mad-uh-LINE’.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]?
I am also open to combos using Madelyn/Madeleine as a first and middle name.
I just have never been completely sold on it, but I do comeback to it from time to time. So I am just entertaining the current spark – please be completely honest, my feelings wont be hurt.
[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] I do feel is slightly dated, but [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] has a more classic feel (however I do pronounce them slightly different ‘lin’ vs ‘lehn’, but in a typical american accent those are almost interchangeable)
I find [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] to be dated. Especially that spelling of it. It feels like a trendy spelling that was used and I would picture an older child to have it now vs a new baby. [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] I would consider slightly less dated just because of the spelling. However, you’d always be having to spell it for people of [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] vs [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] which could get annoying throughout your child’s life.
I quite like [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]! I think it’s pretty and delicate, with a friendly sound and feel. [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] feels dated to me but [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] doesn’t I guess because [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is the original so it feels more classic!
[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] is pretty - simple but substantial, pretty without being frilly. I don’t think it feels dated. Maybe that’s a UK thing as it’s not - and has never been - super popular here. Still, it’s in the US Top 100 rn, and totally works.
I like [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] too - elegant and sleek. But if you want mad-uh-linn, [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] would be my go to.
A few combos:
[name_f]Cassie[/name_f] [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]

[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Joy[/name_f] [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]
I think the best of both worlds is the old-fashioned [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f]. However, spelling-wise, I do prefer [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]. I do find [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] older – I still have students (9-12) named [name_f]Madlyn[/name_f], [name_f]Madalyn[/name_f], and Madalynne.
I love Madeleine!! It’s the classic spelling and so chic. I can’t ever see this spelling as dated. [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f], on the other hand, does feel dated, mostly because of that trendy -lyn ending. I much prefer [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f].
I know a lot of Madelyn’s and Madelynn’s, and they all go by [name_f]Maddy[/name_f], [name_f]Maddie[/name_f], or [name_f]Madi[/name_f]. (Same name, different spellings)
I personally don’t really like [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f], mostly because I hear it so much. I like [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] more, it’s not as common.

I prefer [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f].

I think Madeleineor Madeline pronounced mad-uh-line is very classic. I think Madalyn is a bit dated but still very pretty.
If I was using Madelyn as an honor name I would personally use it as a middle name.
Eloise Madelyn
Madeleine Louise
Edited to add that you could use a more modern/classic nickname as well instead of Maddy.
Madelyn could go by Addie, Elle, Ada, Ellie, Ely, lane, Lanie
I don’t love [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] (don’t hate it either though), but I’ve been loving [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Leni[/name_f] or [name_f]Della[/name_f] lately! She’s so much fun to say in [name_m]French[/name_m], and I think she looks so timeless. Because of the [name_m]French[/name_m] cookies, I also feel like she feels nostalgic and so sweet; like baking in the kitchen with grandma or mama.
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] is LINE for me too… nice in its own right, but [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is definitely my favorite spelling (but I’m a big fan of the [name_f]Magdala[/name_f] family, also adore [name_f]Madelaine[/name_f], [name_f]Maddalena[/name_f], and Magdalen!).
I prefer [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and combos like [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] , [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] gray
I don’t think -lyn endings look pretty. [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is a much nicer spelling, IMO. Though I do associate it with [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] McCann.
I don’t like [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f], but I’m also not a fan of similar spellings / variants on more classic options eg [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f]. [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] isn’t a personal favourite of mine but I do like it and think it’s very pretty for someone else. It’s classic and traditional but not boring, and its the original and best imo. I agree with you re [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] giving a different pronunciation. [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] is adorable.
I personally love it ! I think it’s a name that is a classic and never really falls out of style. I have a great aunt with this name and when I was growing up an elderly neighbour - so I feel like it transcends time
I think the spelling [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] has the most intuitive pronunciation for what you want, and since it’s a family name that makes it more special.I never personally met a [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], only Madison’s, so to me I wouldn’t know if it feels dated or not. But sometimes names that feel dated deserve love too and will be more unique for this generation than they were for ours.
