Wow, Berries! Thank you for contributing so many wonderful ideas. It makes me smile to see all the “spunky” names here!

I put several of the suggestions into combos for my husband, including [name_f]Jubilee[/name_f], [name_f]Paloma[/name_f], [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], [name_f]Perlita[/name_f], [name_u]Truly[/name_u], [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]; also some other suggestions that have been on our list - [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_u]Dagny[/name_u], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], etc. There are so many others I really like but have disappointing meanings, are already in use in the family, don’t really work that well with the first name or last name, or were vetoed by my husband already ([name_f]Verity[/name_f], [name_f]Dawn[/name_f], [name_f]Belle[/name_f], [name_f]Melody[/name_f], [name_f]Gia[/name_f], [name_f]Fia[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Romilly[/name_f], [name_u]Vesper[/name_u], [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f], [name_f]Kirrily[/name_f], [name_f]Liv[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f], [name_f]Azalea[/name_f], [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_f]Pippa[/name_f], [name_f]Faye[/name_f]…)

The only new one my husband liked was [name_u]Piper[/name_u], and he even tossed a couple of oldies. Most notably: [name_u]Truth[/name_u]. Which has me rather baffled because last month he marked [name_u]Truth[/name_u] as his favorite possibility from my list of middle-name suggestions. I guess he only likes it as part of two-middle combos? I’m convinced that I’m not the only crazy person in this house. No wonder we are having such a hard time deciding.

In alphabetical order, these are the combos he liked enough to keep on this list. Our last name is like [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] (but actually the same as a Dr Who companion). Maybe I could get some thoughts on these, my husband doesn’t like to just objectively discuss what sounds/looks appealing and what doesn’t. (I’ve also looked at 2-middle combos a lot, but it seems like sooooo much name with a 4-syllable first name).

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_u]Dagny[/name_u] - [name_u]Dagny[/name_u] is losing a bit of shimmer for me, but I love the meaning and that D alliteration has grown on me.

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] - Does it “look” awkward to anyone else?

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] - I don’t like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] but it’s my husband’s favorite, and the meaning is nice, and it’s a “normal” middle name.

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_u]Piper[/name_u] - Meaning is not fantastic but it’s super cute — on-trend vs trendy though? The repeated -er endings don’t seem to be bothering me that much since it’s a middle name.

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] Iverine - I don’t like the vowels next to each other, but it’s my grandmother’s middle name.

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] - [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is one of my sassy faves, but I’m not sure I love “sweet red” as a meaning, or the soft C and the hard C in the same combo.

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Tesla[/name_f] - Hubby changed [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] to [name_f]Tesla[/name_f]; the literal meaning is less good but it IS more interesting/unexpected; not sure about the T alliteration with the last name.

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] - I like this meaning/imagery but it feels bit…hippie?

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Zara[/name_f] - exotic without being too unfamiliar, and it’s a variation on my name, not sure about the “rhyminess” though.

I really like [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. So fresh, happy and lovely all around. I don’t feel it’s hippie at all.
[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] is beautiful too, I suppose you think it’s a bit unusual because both names are rare.
[name_u]Dulcimer[/name_u] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] flows wonderfully the meaning seems tricky.
[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Zara[/name_f] and [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_u]Dagny[/name_u] are nice ones, too. [name_u]Dagny[/name_u] is sophisticated and spunky with a Norse feeling and [name_f]Zara[/name_f] is warm and tender.

[name_f]Annie[/name_f]
[name_f]Bea[/name_f]
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
[name_f]Della[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
[name_f]Flavia[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ione[/name_f]
[name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]
Kana
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_u]Penny[/name_u]
[name_u]Rae[/name_u]
[name_u]Skylar[/name_u]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]

I have to say, my favorite is [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. I’m a huge fan of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and all her variations, and the association with the Narnian character is amazing. I also love the sounds together…the repeating L and soft C. It’s romantic, sweet, and spunky all at once. I know it’s not your favorite name, but I think it’s beautiful and a great counterpoint to sister Ev3 An@stasia.

Second favorite would have to be [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. I’m heavily biased in [name_f]Willow[/name_f]'s direction…she is one of my all-time favorite names for a girl. I associate the name with magic, wisdom, and resilience. It could be a hippie name in a sibset overflowing with flowers and word names, but in a sibset such as yours which seems to have a quirky, Biblical-meets-fantasy-literature vibe, I think [name_f]Willow[/name_f] fits right in. I love the bookending W’s and the repeating L’s, and the geek in me is pleased that every vowel is represented in the name.

If it weren’t for the repeating -er endings with your surname, [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_u]Piper[/name_u] would be my third favorite. I love the spunk and unexpectedness of [name_u]Piper[/name_u], the musical nod, and my own mental association with piping hot drinks and cozy winter evenings by the fire. [name_u]Piper[/name_u] inevitably reminds me of Charmed, which makes the name feel magical and curious.

BUT since there is that repeating -er thing going on, my actual third favorite is [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Tesla[/name_f]. I just think it’s so unexpected, exactly the sort of name I can see working in your family. There’s a bit of my beloved steampunk vibe going on. And how cute is [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Tess[/name_f] as a nickname?? If you’re not keen on the “from [name_f]Thessaly[/name_f]” meaning, there’s another school of thought relating [name_f]Tesla[/name_f] to a Slavic name that means “carpenter.” I’ve always loved the subtle link to [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] that brings out in the name.

I was going to say that [name_f]Jubilee[/name_f] is amazing for you – sweet joy – but I see he didn’t like it. :stuck_out_tongue: Here’s my opinions:

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_u]Dagny[/name_u] - [name_u]Dagny[/name_u] is losing a bit of shimmer for me, but I love the meaning and that D alliteration has grown on me.

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] - Does it “look” awkward to anyone else?

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] – I don’t like this and I don’t even know why  It just sounds awkward when I say it out loud.

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_u]Piper[/name_u] – I really love [name_u]Piper[/name_u] but I don’t like the repeating ER sounds or the repeating I sounds in your last name and in [name_u]Piper[/name_u]. It’s very rhymey. It wouldn’t be too bad with a second middle – [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_u]Piper[/name_u] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] T. It has a neat rhythm to it.

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] Iverine – I don’t like Iverine right next to [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f]. The vowels slur together. Hey, you know what’s a great combo? [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_u]Dagny[/name_u] Iverine :stuck_out_tongue: It’s got the spunk you want >.>
But I also like [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Zara[/name_f] Iverine.

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] – I don’t like this at all, sorry. I like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] fine, but with [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] it’s not good. I don’t like it because the T’s slur together so it sounds like scarleh instead of [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Tesla[/name_f] – [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Tesla[/name_f]. I love the science connections here and it spices up [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] a lot without being overwhelming. I think the alliteration is fine. It’s my second favorite.

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] – I don’t find [name_f]Willow[/name_f] hippie. I’m about to get long winded :stuck_out_tongue: – It’s a strong, beautiful tree that represents immortality and rebirth. If you cut off a branch of a willow tree and drop it in any type of soil, it will grow a whole new willow tree. The willow is medicinal. In some Native American tribes, the willow is used for protection. [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is grown for biomass or biofuel, in energy forestry systems, as a consequence of its high energy in-energy out ratio, large carbon mitigation potential and fast growth. [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is used to make charcoal (for drawing) and in living sculptures. [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is one of the “Four Species” used ritually during the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. In Buddhism, a willow branch is one of the chief attributes of [name_m]Kwan[/name_m] Yin, the bodhisattva of compassion. [name_m]Christian[/name_m] churches in northwestern Europe and the Ukraine often used willow branches in place of palms in the ceremonies on Palm [name_f]Sunday[/name_f].
And this is a great article to read – http://floridagardener.hubpages.com/hub/The-Mysteries-and-Marvels-of-the-Weeping-Willow-Tree

Anyway! I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this combo. [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is gentle and sweet but at the same time being strong and steadfast (hey, there’s a very loose connection to your dad :stuck_out_tongue: ) and it sounds great with [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f]. It’s my favorite.

[name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Zara[/name_f] – I like [name_f]Zara[/name_f] and I like [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] but together I don’t like the rhyme. I think it would sound better with a second middle. [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Zara[/name_f] [name_u]Truth[/name_u] is amazing but if I’m reading your stuff right, your husband doesn’t like it anymore :frowning: .

Now, just in case, here’s some names I consider spunky and that you might like:

[name_f]Theia[/name_f]
Agape – [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] Agape is very cool but I hate how the A’s go together. But Sweet [name_f]Love[/name_f] is so nice
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u]
[name_f]Reverie[/name_f] – [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] is amazing. And the meaning is great ^^
[name_f]Temperance[/name_f] – this comes off as spunky to me because it’s got the nn Tempy and I love the meaning.
[name_f]Winsome[/name_f] – I know a great man named [name_f]Winsome[/name_f] ^
^
[name_u]Ember[/name_u]
[name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]
[name_f]Aviva[/name_f]
[name_u]Fife[/name_u]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Clio[/name_f]
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f] – sweet life
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Margo[/name_f]
[name_f]Fauna[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Nova[/name_f]
[name_f]Jade[/name_f]
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]
[name_f]Eowyn[/name_f]
Eisa
[name_f]Fairuza[/name_f]
[name_u]Dagny[/name_u]
[name_f]Signe[/name_f]
[name_f]Saga[/name_f]
[name_f]Una[/name_f]/[name_f]Oona[/name_f]
[name_f]Kiara[/name_f]/[name_f]Chiara[/name_f]
Larkspur – I know a little Larkspur so it seems usable to me :stuck_out_tongue:

And I like these [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] alternatives because they’re fresh and spunky sounding:

[name_f]Sarina[/name_f]
[name_f]Sarika[/name_f]

Ok, this is REALLY helpful so far! Thank you!

I really, super like [name_f]Tesla[/name_f] with the meaning “carpenter.” I mean I superduperkindaloveit. It sounds cool and steampunk-y and sweet and modern but has tons of hidden meaning. THAT is what has been missing. Instant frontrunner here.

[name_f]Willow[/name_f] - ok, great feedback on this one, it’s really helpful to get other people’s impressions. I like this combo because I get a Psalms 1:3 impression, which gives it a meaning “edge” over a lot of others.

[name_u]Piper[/name_u] & [name_f]Zara[/name_f] - yes, I do see how those would be much better as first middles. I THINK my husband likes [name_u]Truth[/name_u] as a two-middle option, but not alone. Because, he has liked options like [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_u]Truth[/name_u] but not [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_u]Truth[/name_u]. [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_f]Zara[/name_f] [name_u]Truth[/name_u] is really gorgeous, but I’m afraid I can’t get on board with it because it sort of gives me flashbacks to when I was a kid and I was always hearing my sister’s name with mine “[name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f].” Noooooonononono. Not cool.

[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] - eeh, you’re right. It DOES sound like scarlehh. Time to put [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] back on my favorites-but-not-for-this-time list.

Iverine - bleh, I might need to put this one on not-for-this-time too. As beautiful as [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f] [name_u]Dagny[/name_u] Iverine is, I’m just really having trouble picturing giving the girl THREE obscure names. I haven’t totally ruled it out, but it’s struggling.

Oooh we are on the same page on what is spunky! I also adore [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Holly[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Indigo[/name_f] ([name_f]Indie[/name_f]-so spunky)! [name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_u]Hadley[/name_u], [name_f]Mela[/name_f], [name_f]Mira[/name_f], [name_f]Farah[/name_f], [name_u]Micah[/name_u], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Reva[/name_f]…Current favourite is [name_u]Reeve[/name_u]. I think [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] is really spunky but does not go with last name. I used [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] for our daughter  PS: Really sorry I have posted without reading the all the suggestions sorry for repeats!!

OMG yes, I am on board with [name_f]Tesla[/name_f]!

I agree with you on [name_f]Tesla[/name_f]. Its a great name with multi-layered meanings. [name_f]Tesla[/name_f] was a real person and an inventor too.
