My husband has degrees in Latin and Classics (although his career is in something else entirely) so he’s all over ancient [name]Roman[/name] names.
We are TTC #2 at the moment and if our next baby is a boy he is plumping for [name]Augustus[/name] or [name]Tiberius[/name] in the middle spot. Currently we love [name]Pascoe[/name] as a first. I think I prefer [name]August[/name], [name]Augusten[/name]/[name]Augustin[/name] or [name]Augustine[/name] but DH is pretty set on [name]Augustus[/name] or nothing. I almost like it, but I need to get past the [name]Augustus[/name] Gloop association. I do like [name]Tiberius[/name] but I’m not sure about [name]Pascoe[/name] [name]Tiberius[/name] together.
There’s a tv series where I am from which has an unsavoury female character [name]Pascale[/name] - I don’t watch the series but its popularity has ruined the name [name]Pascal[/name] unfortunately. DH has also now suggested [name]Aurelius[/name], which I also like. I guess he likes names that end in -us!
I love both. I think I like [name]Augustus[/name] better as a first name, cause who couldn’t resist a little Auggie or [name]Gus[/name]. I have been crushing on [name]Tiberius[/name] lately…but I feel its more appropriate in a middle spot.
[name]James[/name] [name]Tiberius[/name] [name]Kirk[/name]… Can’t get that out of my mind if you go with mn [name]Tiberius[/name]. Seems as overblown as [name]Kirk[/name] himself. Sorry.
I love [name]Tiberius[/name] and [name]Augustus[/name]. Maybe [name]Tiberius[/name] more. I also go for the -us endings (see my name lists at the end…we’re planning on using [name]Marcellus[/name] as a MN, and [name]Caius[/name] is one of my top choices [name]EVER[/name]). We like ancient names and Latin names, too.
[name]Augustine[/name] is also nice, but I guess I am always wondering if it would be pronounced [name]AugusTEEN[/name] or [name]AuGUStine[/name] by the person wearing the name. Not that pronunciation should stop you – my DH and I have certainly chosen names that most people often don’t “get” but like later.
[name]Tiberius[/name] I don’t like too much (feel very ‘heavy’ to me). But [name]Augustus[/name] is great, and sometimes my favorite of the ‘[name]August[/name]’ family. However, now that you’ve mentioned [name]Aurelius[/name], that one is definitely my favorite of all. [name]Pascoe[/name] [name]Aurelius[/name] is awesome! [name]Pascoe[/name] is very [name]Easter[/name] though, sounds slightly out of place if born nowhere near [name]Easter[/name] time.
Same here. DH thinks if you are going to use [name]August[/name] or [name]Augusten[/name] etc, you should use the ‘proper’ version [name]Augustus[/name]. I disagree, but anyhow - [name]Augustus[/name] is the only one he likes!
I know what you mean about the [name]Easter[/name] meaning. I’m not sure how I would feel about using it if it takes us a while to TTC. If we’re lucky this month my [name]EDD[/name] would be in [name]March[/name] and next month would be [name]April[/name] - which would be spot on!
I know a family who has boys who are named [name]August[/name] and [name]Tiberius[/name]. I like [name]August[/name], [name]Augustine[/name], or [name]Austin[/name] best. I think Tiberias is hard for a child because it has an imperious-ness to it. What about [name]Marcus[/name], [name]Titus[/name], or [name]Gaius[/name] instead? These seem more approachable.
[name]Tiberius[/name] we’d only use in the middle. I don’t really have an issue with strong or unusual names being used in the middle spot. [name]Mila[/name]'s 3 and I can count on one hand the number of times we’ve ever mentioned her middle name to people. It just doesn’t come up unless a) I’m filling out a form on her behalf or b) we’re specifically discussing names.
My husband also has a degree in Classics and loves ancient [name]Roman[/name] names. [name]Even[/name] though I like both [name]Augustus[/name] and [name]Tiberius[/name], they can be a little heavy for a child. I know you said he prefers the originals, but do you think he’d go for [name]August[/name]/ Tiber? It’s a little less obvious but still meaningful.
I think [name]Tiberius[/name] sounds better with [name]Pascoe[/name], but I prefer [name]Augustus[/name]. Actually, I prefer [name]August[/name], but you said that’s not an option.
I agree with everyone picking [name]August[/name]! Sigh.
tct1219 - unfortunately Tiber as a middle doesn’t flow well with our surname ([name]Fraser[/name]). DH is stuck on [name]Pascoe[/name] [name]Tiberius[/name]. I know it’s a heavy middle, but his enthusiasm is making me slowly warm to the idea.
