Tiberius Edward

[name_m]Hi[/name_m], I’m a name nerd who has been discussing names of possible future children with my boyfriend, and we’ve settled on [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m], with possible nickname ‘Tibbers’ if we have a boy.
[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] was his suggestion and I love it, and [name_m]Edward[/name_m] is a family middle name from my side, though I also love the name [name_m]Edmund[/name_m].
What are your thoughts on the combo?

bump I’d also like help coming up with sibling names to go with [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m]

[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] is something I’ve never heard before. Honestly, it seems very, very strong and masculine, I can’t picture it on a little boy, or an artsy teenager. I picture a 50 y.o. business man who’s willing to do anything it takes to make that extra penny. I really love [name_m]Edward[/name_m] though! I like to use family names in the middle, so that’s great. [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] is nice too, but [name_m]Edward[/name_m] is so strong and classic and maybe a bit gentler than [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m].

Edited for privacy.

[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] is a fantastic name. Yes, [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] is a heavy name, but it’s got plenty of more accessible nicknames - Tibbers is cute for a baby, but he could easily go by [name_m]Ty[/name_m], Tibe, [name_f]Tibby[/name_f], or even [name_m]Ted[/name_m]/[name_u]Teddy[/name_u], thanks to the middle name. I think [name_m]Edward[/name_m] balances it perfectly; [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] is also lovely but too unusual when paired with [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m].

With a brother [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] I would go with other old (not necessarily [name_m]Roman[/name_m]), underused names that are full of historical significance but also have accessible nicknames:

[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] and [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] and [name_m]Hector[/name_m] ([name_m]Huck[/name_m])

[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] and [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] ([name_u]Max[/name_u])
[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] and [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m] ([name_m]Ferdie[/name_m])
[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] and [name_m]Hadrian[/name_m] (Hadrie)

[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] ([name_f]Calla[/name_f])
[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] and [name_f]Lucretia[/name_f] ([name_f]Lucie[/name_f])
[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] and [name_f]Helena[/name_f] ([name_f]Nell[/name_f])
[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] and [name_f]Clothilde[/name_f] ([name_f]Chloe[/name_f])
[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] ([name_f]Libby[/name_f])
[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] and [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] and [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] ([name_f]Vivi[/name_f])

I much prefer [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] to [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m]. [name_m]Edward[/name_m] seems so bland next to a first name as striking as [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m].

Thank you for the replies, I do realise it could be a bit much of a name for a child, but it does have so many nn possibilities, and I like that it’s seen as striking and strong. Still debating with myself the [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] or [name_m]Edward[/name_m] mn choice. I think they both sound nice with [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m], and I prefer [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] as a name and have wanted to use it for years, but [name_m]Edward[/name_m] has a more classic feel and is to honour my father and my brother.
I think I like the idea of saving [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] as a possible sibling name. Thank you for the sibling suggestions, I love old names, though a lot of the suggestions didn’t quite match my taste, or were marked to be used as middle names to honour family. I’m glad you don’t think I would need to go for another [name_m]Roman[/name_m] name to go with it, I had worried that historical choices from other cultures would clash a bit, and I don’t really like many of the other [name_m]Roman[/name_m] names, especially the other -us ending names.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] - In no way is it too much of a name for a child, if you have a cool child and a thick skin.
[name_f]My[/name_f] son is [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] and is coming up for two and suits it so beautifully. He made a rather rushed appearance and I hadn’t got my head around choosing from our short list, my husband was sure and I was scared at the pressure of picking a name for a real person so went with it. It is the best name ever and now I don’t know how to top it for number 2. He also responded to it from day one.
You get a few snide ‘oh that’s unusual’ from people with don’t like it and who are unoriginal and a few scoffs at ‘trekkie fans’.
When pointed out it’s been around a lot longer than film and tv they soon shut up as do those with ‘normal’ named children when you respond with ‘must have taken ages to find that name’. I hate anything in the top 200 even more as a teacher and a person with an over common name myself. Ours is [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m].
Each to their own, would be boring if we all chose the same, I love it. I love the [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and think it being of a similar sound to [name_m]Edward[/name_m] is enough of a nod to a family name but giving the child his own name.
As I say I’m stuck for sibling names myself but our original lists were
Boys - [name_f]Carlysle[/name_f], [name_m]Malachi[/name_m], [name_m]Greyson[/name_m]
Girls - [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_u]Micah[/name_u]
I also love [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] and [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] but can’t have 2 ‘us’ names, my husband loves Raziel (I think sp right) and [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] (maybe too much esp with our sn) and I like [name_m]Teague[/name_m] but don’t want 2 T names. I’m not keen on rules for sibling names but may go for another [name_m]Roman[/name_m] or if a girl a Shakespearian pretty one.
Sorry for the long ramble but felt you should know there’s a few of us out there!

I like [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m]. [name_f]Every[/name_f] man with a big strong name was a baby at some point, so I wouldn’t let myself be put off by that. And beside the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] heritage there’s also the [name_f]Star[/name_f] Trek connection too. [name_m]Captain[/name_m] [name_m]Kirk[/name_m] ([name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] [name_m]Kirk[/name_m]) isn’t a bad ‘role model’ to have.

[name_f]Glad[/name_f] to see some love for the name, as it is my top choice for a boy at the moment
[name_f]My[/name_f] boyfriend and I do both like [name_f]Star[/name_f] Trek, though that isn’t what inspired the name choice. His name is [name_u]James[/name_u] as well so I’m sure we’ll be bombarded by trekkie comments, but it’s not a bad reference imo, and the name does have a long and noble history before that.
Thanks for the feedback

[name_f]Tibby[/name_f]! Very cute nickname for a small child, but may be a challenging name for those teenage years.
