Hubby and I are back to searching for a boy’s name. We were just discussing [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m]. Is this name usable? If so, what makes a good combo with [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] (either as fn or mn)? Also, what nicknames work well?
Again, our surname is like “[name_f]Deal[/name_f],” and we are considering family names as first or middles: [name_u]Roy[/name_u], [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_u]Owen[/name_u], [name_u]Michael[/name_u] (not my fav), and [name_m]Abel[/name_m]. [name_u]James[/name_u] is my favorite, but the [name_f]Star[/name_f] Trek reference makes [name_u]James[/name_u] with [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] unusable.
Ooh, I like [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] is usable, but it’s very intense. I would only feel comfortable using it as a middle name. From your list of honor names:
Thanks for the feedback. I am not sure I can part with [name_u]James[/name_u], so I may have to scratch [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m]. If not, I think I’ll stick it in the middle.
Yeah James Tiberius sounds brilliant, but names from sci-fi and fantasy shows/films often have such an epic vibe to it. The boy would always and forever be connected to Star Trek though, it’s not some random show that will suddenly become forgotten and nobody will remember the connection. I can only imagine the millions of comments you would all get about it.
Tiberius as a first name is a bit heavy for the current day, it’ll more than likely get shortened. James is great though, a timeless classic. Perhaps you’ll find another cool epic middle name that goes well with James !
I like the name [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] but maybe more so for a middle name.
It is a very strong name and it reminds me of a [name_m]Roman[/name_m] warrior…
I liked [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] [name_u]Owen[/name_u] as a combination or [name_m]Cole[/name_m] [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] from the list @southern.maple posted above.
I think if you use [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] as a first or middle name you just need the other name to be more muted and “normal”.
I actually really like [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m]. It sounds so strong and confident and no-nonsense. I think of the character from Kingdom of [name_f]Heaven[/name_f] (actually, just looked it up, it’s Tiberias but pronounced the same way) who was a pretty good character.
I really like [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m], and I love the nn [name_m]Ty[/name_m]. When presented with your names I immediately thought [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], but you said [name_f]Star[/name_f] Trek? I never watched anything sci fi and never heard the combo before. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think that many people will get the reference?, because I had no idea what you were referring to.
I would have to agree. By the time you son is in school not many children will know anything about star-trek. So name him something YOU like. I love that name.
[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] is an amazing name, and I think it’s usable. Honestly, if you like [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], go with it. A lot of people won’t get the reference (if they ever hear his middle name), and if they do, so what?
