I am considering using my maiden name, Tice as a first name if we have a son in [name_u]August[/name_u]. My husband is [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m] so I thought the name [name_m]Jefferson[/name_m] (son of [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m]) would work well together with Tice. My question is, What do you think of the name and can you think of another option of how we could incorporate both namesakes so that our son would have a name that represents us both? Thanks so Much for any contributions!! BTW…I don’t like the name [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] as it reminds me of [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] Chicken.
I totally understand your reasoning and think if it’s important to honor both of you with the name, you should. However, I do think Tice won’t translate very well as a first name - sounds like a made up shortened version of [name_u]Tyson[/name_u].
[name_m]Jefferson[/name_m] Tice works a little better, in my opinion, but I’m not super fond of [name_m]Jefferson[/name_m] as a first name either - “[name_m]Jeff[/name_m]” as a nn is a little dated and depending on your husband’s nicknames, might get them confused. You could always name him [name_m]Jefferson[/name_m] Tice and call him Tice, but that may not be ideal.
My first instinct was to find a name that had “tic,” “tice,” or “tis” etc somewhere inside it, and found:
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Jefferson[/name_m] - I actually like this a lot.
[name_u]Justice[/name_u] [name_m]Jefferson[/name_m] - not my style, but certainly an option if you don’t mind the repetition.
[name_u]Curtis[/name_u] [name_m]Jefferson[/name_m] - bit of a stretch, but doable.
You could also consider [name_u]Bryce[/name_u] or a name like it, to rhyme with Tice and nod to your maiden name that way.
Another option would be to find a name with a similar meaning to [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m] and use Tice as the middle. [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m] means “pledge of peace.” Here’s what I came up with:
[name_u]Arlen[/name_u] Tice - [name_u]Arlen[/name_u] means “pledge.”
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] Tice - “peaceful ruler”
[name_m]Axel[/name_m] Tice - “father of peace”
[name_m]Godfrey[/name_m] Tice - if you’re feeling bold, means “God’s peace”
[name_m]Miro[/name_m] Tice - means “peace” and I actually really like this one.
Of course, you could also combine these - [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m], [name_m]Miro[/name_m] [name_u]Curtis[/name_u], [name_u]Arlen[/name_u] [name_m]Justice[/name_m] being my favorites.
I hope that helped! If you’re committed to using Tice as a first name, by all means, do. This is just my opinion and maybe it’ll give you a different way to look at the name itself.
Thank you for your response and thoughtful suggestions. I do like [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] and it seems to make sense. Could a nickname of [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] then be Tice?
I do think that Tice sounds nicknamey as a fn… [name_m]How[/name_m] is it pronounced?
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Jefferson[/name_m] is a handsome name… Tice is not intuitive, but I think it could work… I call my brother [name_m]Martin[/name_m] [name_m]Matt[/name_m].
I believe Tice which rhymes with nice was originally either an English Occupational name or another theory was coming from the root of the name Matthais. “[name_f]Thais[/name_f]” It is a short name and I can see how someone would think it may sound made up, but to me, I like that it does have a history and origin and in fact, is not made up at all.
I love the idea of using your maiden name as a first. Tice [name_m]Jefferson[/name_m] works and is nice, but I must say I preferred Tice [name_m]Calloway[/name_m] from a previous thread (which I assume was you :))…
Another thought is since [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m] has a peace meaning, find another name associated with peace… like [name_m]Callum[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Solomon[/name_m]… Tice [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], Tice [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] (or [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] Tice), [name_m]Callum[/name_m] Tice, etc. Tice [name_m]Jefferson[/name_m] is growing on me though. I like it.
Thank you for your suggestions. It is so nice to bounce ideas off other name berries; I do prefer the sound of [name_m]Calloway[/name_m] to [name_m]Jefferson[/name_m] but in this moment, I feel attached to the meaning of “son of [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m]”, especially since my husband is [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m] and his father is [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m]. The namesake will live on with a son. But, who knows how long I will be stuck on this one.
I actually really like this. The only drawback i see is it’s a very honor heavy name- meaning if you had a second child it may be tough to find anything with the same sentimental value to you. Having said that, who is to say you’ll have a second son (or second child for that matter) and if that were the case it would be a shame to not have the opportunity to use Tice or [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m]/[name_m]Jefferson[/name_m]. My gut would say go with Tice [name_m]Calloway[/name_m], but that is taking the gamble that you wouldn’t have the opportunity to use [name_m]Jefferson[/name_m]. I think it’s a personal choice between you and your husband and both are nice
Honestly I think Tice just sounds like a shortened version of [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] (which reminds me of [name_m]Mike[/name_m] [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] first). Then again, I’m considering [name_u]Bryce[/name_u] but not [name_m]Bryson[/name_m] so what do I know?
[name_m]Jefferson[/name_m] as a mn for [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m]'s son is an awesome update.
