Tide for a boy?

We have three sons ([name_m]Wild[/name_m], [name_u]Drum[/name_u] and [name_m]Baird[/name_m]) and are expecting boy #4 in [name_u]December[/name_u].
I really love the name [name_m]Tide[/name_m]… We’re in the UK so we don’t have the detergent, but is that the first thing that springs to mind elsewhere?
Appreciate your thoughts…
(Also, as a mother of boys, I’m thinking maybe the name might encourage him to do laundry :p)

I admit, but the title alone I thought of the laundry soap.

It fits style-wise with your sons, but I think you could find something similar:

[name_u]Calder[/name_u]
[name_u]Kai[/name_u]
[name_u]Lake[/name_u]
[name_u]Thames[/name_u]
[name_m]Fisher[/name_m]
[name_m]Cove[/name_m]
[name_u]Beck[/name_u]
[name_m]Coburn[/name_m]

I absolutely love your children’s names!! So unique. I’m from the UK and I instantly just thought of the ocean. I think it’s a fantastic name it goes very well with his siblings.

I’m in the US and the first thing I thought was [name_m]Tide[/name_m] Pods, so not the best association. However if you’re in the UK and don’t have that detergent you should be good!! I also like a PP’s suggestion of [name_m]Cove[/name_m].

In the US the detergent came to my mind right away.
If it’s really not an issue for you at all, it seems right on the mark with your other boys.
If you think it’s an issue if he’d wind up in the States, there are lots of other names that can strike the same chord without the same association.

I think it fits well with your boys names!

I think it fits well with your other boys. Being from the UK, my association is just the ocean

Yup I looked at the title and thought oh noo that kid would get so many laundry jokes! I’m in US, if that’s not the association in the UK then it’s fine and goes great with your other boys names.

I’m in the UK too, and the first thing I thought of was the detergent; I think many people probably will. The right person could also pull it off as an offbeat nature name, and then it would fit right in with your other sons’ names.

I do live in the US and the detergent/[name_m]Tide[/name_m] pod memes came to mind when I read the title… It does sound pretty cool though. Maybe you’d also like [name_u]Wade[/name_u] or [name_m]Cove[/name_m]!

My kids call their grandfather Taid (we pronounce it the same) - it means grandfather in welsh and that’s what I thought of!

Bit of a cavil, but you might have to clarify the name for some people, if I heard “this is [name_m]Tide[/name_m]” I would think it’s tied as in tied up or tied score. It’s just so you know, overall I agree that the name is a good fit for your family. [name_m]Ty[/name_m] also makes for a cool nn!

In the US and tide pods we’re the first things I thought of. However I think that it matches well with your children’s names and I feel most around you don’t have the tide pod association I’d say go for it

I love it!!

I think it can work!

In [name_f]Canada[/name_f], and I did think of the detergent first though.

I was also going to suggest [name_m]Cove[/name_m]!

If it was for the tide laundry detergent, I’d say go for it, but that’s the first thing my mind goes too. I like the name itself though which is a shame.

I love your boys, names alot, they’re so unique.

I like the pp’s suggestions of [name_m]Cove[/name_m] and [name_u]Kai[/name_u].
Maybe [name_u]Ash[/name_u], [name_f]Crystal[/name_f], Chord, [name_m]Jack[/name_m], or [name_m]Atlas[/name_m]?

Yes the detergent popped right into my head
But I like [name_m]Tide[/name_m] for a boy
Very crisp
Fits with brothers too
I say don’t let soap de ter you from a lovely name
He can go by [name_m]Ty[/name_m] if he visits the states if it bothers him
Wouldn’t worry

I’m in Australia, yet I think of [name_m]Tide[/name_m] Pods, however, in a different context. When I saw [name_m]Tide[/name_m] in the title, I instantly thought of what was known by teens and on social media as the “[name_m]Tide[/name_m] Pod Challenge” as it was all over the news for a bit last year and the absolute senselessness of the ‘challenge’ unfortunately etched itself into my mind.

I do like the ocean-vibe of [name_m]Tide[/name_m], and it would work well with your other children’s names, but yes, that Pod association’s not great.

Sorry, no. It’s a word not a name. For me, words do not transfer well to name status. But it’s your child, your choice, your business.

I love it!! It fits perfectly with your other children’s names and has a more laid-back feel. I only thought of the ocean, and think [name_m]Tide[/name_m] is a very fitting name for a little boy- both gentle and calm with the potential to be powerful and awe-inspiring. I have to say I much prefer it to other suggestions like [name_u]Kai[/name_u] or [name_m]Cove[/name_m].

**[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: I’m also from the UK so detergent wasn’t my first thought at all. I’d consider how likely is it that your son will spend a substantial amount of time in the States and see if that sways your decision at all. If he’s not, for example will maybe only go there on holiday, then it shouldn’t matter imo.
