Tierna? Can you pronounce this baby name?

I was in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] this summer and met one of my cousins daughter’s named Tierna. It’s a very old Gealic name. Pronounced TIER-Na I fell in love with it right away because of its uniqueness and because it respresents my culture.
What are your thoughts on pronouncation of this name in the US? I don’t want it to be pronounced Tie-rna. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you feel it is too strange? Thoughts and opinions please. Thank you!

I think it’s definitely usable. The pronunciation was intuitive for me.

I immediately pronounced it TIER-na when I saw the name. I think it’s definitely usable and a very pretty name!

I knew a couple of girls named [name_u]Tierney[/name_u] here in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] who were TIER-nee, so I think Tierna will be fine.

I think it’s a lovely name by the way!

It’s definitely usable. I pronounced it TEIR-NA. I know a little boy named Teirnan. Great name!

I think Tierna would definitely be usable in the US. I thought it would be pronounced teer-na when I saw it too. The pronunciation would be pretty straightforward- you might have a bit more trouble with spelling, but it’s not hard to get once it’s been spelled out for you and it’s short enough that spelling it out won’t be that annoying (as opposed to, say, a 15 letter name).

This is the first time I’ve encountered the name Tierna and pronounced it the same way you’ve heard it  It’s pretty.

I immediately pronounced it like you said it should be. I think it’s perfectly usable

When I read the thread title I thought Tee-EHR-na because I speak Spanish and that’s how the word tierna is pronounced. It means tender. But once I started reading your post and I saw [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] I figured it would be TEER-na. I really love it!
