I didn’t think I liked any I names then I remembered…
[name_f]Irene[/name_f].
I just love [name_f]Irene[/name_f]. When I was a little girl, the next door neighbors were related to a younger [name_f]Irene[/name_f] who struck me as exotic. I became attached to the name and am still.
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] and [name_f]Ismene[/name_f].
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] is nice, but there’s that overused [name_f]Bella[/name_f] ending. I’m not wild about [name_f]Dora[/name_f] which seems fusty even to me, my real love being the refreshing [name_f]Araminta[/name_f], but still, [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] is modern dance and wild beauty to me.
And [name_f]Ismene[/name_f] I adore. I would name a daughter that in a heartbeat if I liked [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] as a nn.
I first learned the names [name_f]Ismene[/name_f] and [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] from the marvelous [name_u]David[/name_u] Suchet Poirot mysteries and I still picture lovely twin girls as [name_f]Ismene[/name_f] and [name_f]Saskia[/name_f].
And finally, [name_f]Illyria[/name_f]. Such a lyrical name.
[name_f]Irene[/name_f] is so lovely! That’s my great-gran’s name, and I adore it thanks to her.
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and it’s sister name, the divine [name_f]Innogen[/name_f], are atop my list of I names! They’re so stunning. I’ll also offer up the wonderful [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] for this list! So so beautiful!
I adore [name_f]Irene[/name_f] [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] is also very nice, I could see her getting more popular. [name_f]Ida[/name_f] is long overdue for a revival! [name_m]Even[/name_m] with names like [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] climbing the charts you don’t hear it much. Thanks for making this series, I’ve really enjoyed reading yours and others’ ideas!
[name_f]Irene[/name_f] with the nickname Reenie has my heart
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] is my most favourite [name_u]Isa[/name_u]- names. So elegant and refined, and also unexpected in a world populated by Isabel/Isabelle’s and Isabella’s (although I am a sucker for [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] and I adore the spelling Isobel!).
I love [name_f]Illyria[/name_f], [name_f]Isadora[/name_f], and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] (and [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] and Araminta)! I used to love [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] more than [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] as a kid when I didn’t know anyone with the name except for historical figures and then it become #1 on US charts when it wasn’t even in the top 1000 just 20 years prior! I’ve now come to love [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] (and Isadore/Isidore for boys) more but am unsure on [name_f]Dora[/name_f] or [name_u]Dory[/name_u] as a nn. [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] is still not completely off the table though because it was my mom’s name in her [name_u]French[/name_u] class so could use it as an honor
I agree that [name_f]Illyria[/name_f] sounds lyrical
How did your neighbors pronounce [name_f]Irene[/name_f] btw?
I also love [name_f]Ida[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], Islanzadi, [name_f]Ithaca[/name_f], Ismira, Izmir, and [name_f]Irina[/name_f] but [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] are already making a comeback and the last 5 were never on top US 1000
[name_f]Irene[/name_f] is sweet and I love the similar [name_f]Irina[/name_f] too!! [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] is beautiful and Ilyria is gorgeous.
Not so much revivals, but I’d love to see [name_f]Ilaria[/name_f], [name_f]Iona[/name_f], [name_f]Ismay[/name_f] or [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] in use. And [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f] - like one of [name_u]Percy[/name_u] Shelley’s children’s names
Yes, I’d think [name_f]Ava[/name_f] would lead to [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and then to [name_f]Ida[/name_f], but that doesn’t seem to be happening where I live in [name_u]California[/name_u] (yet). Thanks!
I names are great: [name_f]Ishbel[/name_f], instead of [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], or the Scottish [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]. [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and [name_f]Iseult[/name_f], as opposed to [name_f]Imogene[/name_f] (I hate the “gene” ending) and [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] (too Wagnerian).
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Iolanta[/name_f], [name_f]Ileana[/name_f], [name_f]Idina[/name_f], [name_f]Ida[/name_f] (Ee-da), I used to not like [name_f]Iris[/name_f], but I do like it now.
It makes me so happy to see [name_f]Ismene[/name_f] pop up anywhere! I have loved it since high school when we read [name_f]Antigone[/name_f] in [name_f]English[/name_f] class.
I also love [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] but they’re way less under-the-radar.
I also have only heard [name_f]Irene[/name_f] pronounced eye-REEN in [name_f]English[/name_f]. I like it fine but it’s more like ee-RENN in [name_u]French[/name_u] and I like that better.
